Very heartwarming seeing a 101 yr old veteran still going strong doing the things he loves, they are not nicknamed the greatest generation just for kicks. He lived through Prohibition, Model T's puttering down old gravel roads, which some had to be hand cranked before electric starters became universal, electricity and indoor plumbing was relatively new and only very well off families had those luxuries, then the great depression, the dust bowl, fought a brutal war for which we wouldn't exist today if not for all these men and women sacrificing life and limb, then raised a family with values and tough love, something that is sorely lacking today, and last but not least, a peek into the future, by riding in a Tesla Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

That's a great story. Can you imagine what that man has seen in his lifetime? And at a 101 still interested in life! That's awesome. Watching this I thought, this man has probably lived in homes that didn't have electricity yet. And a hundred years later he's riding around town in an electric car! And loving every minute of it!
@Sparky-ww5re
@Sparky-ww5re 3 жыл бұрын
I bet he's been in at least a couple of homes without electricity. As a lot of homes, especially on farms and rural communities did not have electricity till the 30s, or later, some not till after wwii. And those that were fortunate to have the new fangled electric lights, were served by cloth wrapped wiring run separately on porcelain insulators secured to the framework of the home.
@jimmotormedic
@jimmotormedic 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sparky-ww5re I'll bet your right. And the wiring your talking about, I've seen a lot of it and it is just scary to look at. Knob and tube wiring, but look at the other alternatives of the day. Kerosene lamps, candles or gas lighting. And all you could do with that was basically see in the dark! Electricity is still amazing today if you think about it

Made me so proud to see this WWII vet enjoying himself. My mom was also a member of the greatest generation. She passed away just short of her 99th b'day about 6 months ago. My wife of 63 years, 5 months, and 2 days passed away about one month ago. And here I am, watching a video of a WWII Vet enjoying himself. Wow, and in Texas too! I agree. These are the people who should be representing American ideals. These are the Americans I grew up with. Not these SJWS complaining about everything and not doing anything to improve things. Our cars and music represent the timeline of our lives. Now music is terrible but at least we still have our memories. One day we will be the great nation we were meant to be. And freedom will return. It will take hard work and a long fight, but one day it will be the great nation we are meant to be. When we did things our way, built our own cars our way, didn't let politicians tell us who we are and sang our own songs. That's American life

@@B2091 Please understand that the finished product of a running old Caddy is not nearly so important or eventful as the process and accomplishment of the work itself, which is being done right now by Walt's kids with help from neighbors and friends. Maybe this is a whole lot of what America has lost , that happiness comes from doing work with your hands, and not farming everything out and looking for somebody else to do your job. Walt himself is overlooking the build and a part of the going's on. He is interested and involved. This is a do-it-yourself family. Even today, they don't farm out plumbing or electrical work. They do it themselves. When Harry was 13 years old, his mom sent him next door to fix the widow lady's plumbing lines that had burst in her basement. This is the real America, still with us today, carved out of a wilderness.

This reminded me of the Dukes of Hazard. All this episode needed was some guitar licks and a banjo.Regardless, hats off to all vets that put their life on the line to give us a life in our country. Salute to you sir !!!

Happy birthday and thank you for your service! Why in Hell anyone gave a thumbs down on this is beyond me. Some people are just plain idiots! My Dad was a Korean war vet. He passed away a few years ago. I miss spending time with him and talking about classic cars. Whenever I would buy one (I'm a collector) his eyes would light up and he couldn't wait to go for a ride. Always made me happy to see that smile on his face thinking of way back when as we went for rides. I miss him alot.

My Dad was born in 1911 and passed on in 2011, just a couple months short of his 100th. I've worked in Alaska with a lot of Texans. These folks personalities and humor remind me of those Texan Pipefitters I worked with. Gotta' love these Texans. Great Family and friends.

Total RESPECT for this man. I love how nice the cars came out after they were washed, amazing. I also love his choice in shirts. The ending in the Tesla was the best.

Walt is such a car enthusiast that we wanted him to experience a 21st century car and knew he would appreciate a ride in a Tesla. Presently, we are working to get that old Caddy running for his 102nd birthday. The V8 is locked down. Harry has a stock engine for this car so that's where the repair appears headed.
