This was quite a shock! I'm happy to hear him say the next Story game is still in development. It was recently reported that Bandai Namco had cancelled five 'unannounced' games and going forward will make "tougher decisions about which games proceed to full development" -- I hope Digimon is strong enough to make it through this sort of creative downsizing!

Yeah I touch on that a bit in this, I hope we do see more Digimon going forward and that the Story game isn't the end. The brand is so strong it just needs a chance and from what I've been told Survive certainly surprised Bandai Namco so there's good chance this isn't the end.

I’m really going to miss honestly. Cyber Sleuth almost single handedly brought me back to the Digimon franchise from almost growing out of it completely and I had a great time with Hacker’s Memory and Digimon Survive. Before Habu, it almost felt like Bandai at large was undervaluing Digimon’s potential in the world of videogames(aside from Vpets) and even now, it feels like Habu was one of the few people who really understood not just Digimon as a whole but also the fact that Digimon was internationally, not just Japan. Remember, Cyber Sleuth almost became Japanese exclusive game before Habu told Bandai to give it a chance in the western market which paid off greatly by becoming the best selling Digimon video game EVER. I hope that whatever team Habu trusts can show people that Digimon games can be good and successful with or without Habu and whatever games they make can bring old and new people to the franchise like Cyber Sleuth did.

this is probably a cynic outlook, but with japan's anti risk taking (well... excluding some outliers) it kinda feels like they are trying to brush it off now, maybe some data that bandai has sees digimon approaching the 'obselete' phase, the last big thing they did for digimon was the 02 follow up movie and we see what that movie was, what it entails... as a digimon fan myself, i worry

If anything, Palworld showed both Bandai and Game Freak that there IS public for realistic, adult themed Mon games. I hope game freak stops making half assed games like scarlet/violet, and focus on quality. As for Bandai, latest Digimon games already had quality, but it felt like they didn't have enough funding to fully materialize their visions, the end result is a niche product, like Survive. All I really want is a AAA digimon game, something big, maybe open world, with tons of digimon. They alreafy have 400+ high quality 3D models from cyber sleuth, add 200 something more and you got yourself the definitive digimon game! I'd love a well made World 3 remake too.

I was definitely suprised when I saw the news earlier today. Leaving aside the end result, it feels like Habu always wanted to try for Digimon-games to be the best they could be, and try as many things as possible, but it seems like the big decision-makers at Bandai Namco didn't want that quality. Honestly, whenever I think of Habu I remember that interview at Digimon Con like 2 years ago, where he answered questions regarding Digimon-games, and most of the time his answer was just "it requires resources and we're only given those resources when we can prove that it'd pay off", especially with how ambitious he was, it feels like the games didn't meet the expectations he gave the guys at Bandai Namco to get the time and resources that he needed... and even then it feels like most of his games didn't really get as many resources as they needed to just push them over a certain line. If this is how it went down... the future of Digimon-games is definitely up in the air, if Bandai cares about Digimon as a franchise, they install someone who'd produce "safer" games that have as much resources put in as they expect in return, but on a more regular schedule than Habus games, if they don't they'll just assign the next best person but generally probably someone who is not too ambitious with the project and will just make fewer games, maybe a producer like that would move more towards legacy-content, porting older games to newer consoles... but for any new project at least, I'd trust in the team Habu cultivated and that they'll continue doing their best, just in the boundaries set by the new producer.

As much as I constantly joke about how biased I am towards Cyber Sleuth... it is true. That game was the start for me being what I would consider a _real_ Digimon fan. It made me actively engaged with the setting, and for more than just waifus and cool designs. The characters, the story, it was all great. I haven't actually gone through Hacker's Memory yet, but apparently it's considered by many to be even better, so... yeah, I've certainly got expectations. So to hear that the guy who made it is not gonna be working on any more Digimon games... it hits hard, man. The dude who got me seriously into this franchise isn't working on it anymore. It honestly does hurt. Habu, you were the man. You really were. ...so I've decided. In his honor, I will finally, _finally_ get back to Hacker's Memory. I will beat that game, and maybe I'll do an NG+ hard mode run of Cyber Sleuth afterwards. And if that makes me suffer? So be it. The Royal Knights, the Seven Great Demon Lords, the Eaters, all of them will fall at my feet. All in Habu's name. All in the name of the man who got me into this franchise. Thank you, Kazumasa Habu. Didn't know this guy was a guy; and while I have my beef with this era of Digimon games, the story, the style and the character writing have all been well above what can often be expected of a major franchise like this. While they're not at all the most polished games in the world, no one can accuse the last decade of Digimon games of not swinging for the fences in terms of experimenting with the property.

Thank You Habu! I do have a good feeling about this though. All the surveys and the other signs they were looking for feedback on games and the direction of Digimon must have been coming from new leadership and not Habu. A new direction coming?

This was quite unexpected Habu was a great in Digimon. He sometimes make mistakes ,but when he got some right is amazing. Digimon World Redigitizer:Decode is a amazing game bring everything of good of the original world and had a story he made his entire team play the original. So everyone understands what make the game great different of next order. I hope Habu is okay.

Well, this could be disastrous

Considering that he did seem very passionate about the franchise, maybe he left because Bandai CLEARLY mistreats the franchise in many aspects.

Bandaid treats Digimon like that red headed step child. Sad really, since Bandai has an IP that could really have been massive.

I wonder if this has to do with the whole Bandai Namco restructuring thing they have going on about doing way less games but with way more quality. Sad as it is, it might mean that the next Digimon game might be great in spite of it in the long run

As someone who lived in the "terrible" PS1 Digimon game era, I like Lost Story, and it's a surprise to find out that it's the first game he worked on. Aside from the questionable balance (too grindy) of the World 1-esque games, I really like these newer Digimon games. Never played the Xros Wars and the Rumble thingy though. My favorite Digimon game is still the first Digimon World, still replaying that game at least once after a few years. Thanks for Hacker's Memory, it's my favorite Digimon game of the generation.
