I'd like to venture one more clarifying question, if you don't mind. You mentioned that you can p-lock program changes in the source menu. So, if I'm not mistaken, this should mean that you can change presets on your preset-enabled synthesizers on a per-step basis. Is that the case here?
@BoBeats

+HalutioN I think you are correct. This should be doable. I have not tested it enough and as with midi there can always be unexpected kinks, but it seems to work

Idea: MIDI ch 16 sends from Digitakt to circuit to control some esoteric stuff about the session, like the left:right ratio on the delay, or the master filter q/rez. even to have a controlled, automated fade in or out of a synth part.

I own the Moog Grandmother, DFAM, and Mother 32 and use the mother 32 the least out of the three of them. With that being said, it does produce the best sounds though. I’m always taken by surprise of the warmth it has, especially with a little reverb on it. So glade I purchased it. I didn’t mind spending the extra money in comparison to the Behringer Crave. I’m a huge fan of Behringer btw. I have a Deepmind 12, and can’t wait for the future releases of there other clones. Mainly the OBXA and other’s alike. Anyways I’m starting to ramble. Point is, the M32 is well worth it. I hope in the two years after your commitment that you eventually picked one up.

God job/overview! I am investigating how suitable the Digitakt (or elektron environment) is for linear MIDI sequencing. I understand trigs/chance can bypass the 4 bar limits but Ive yet to find a HW seq that can rival my QY70 (16-trk 999bar linear sequencing if one really wants to get the real-time-jam-groove on). I like to have my drums and samples and 4-8bars is enough for that but what if I want a piano/pad groove that is 64 bars long (yes bars not steps :D). Im really drawn to the Digi/Octa for the cool wild FX one can program in MIDI CC and stuff, but it seems the polyphony (max 4 midi notes) and even the chance is a limit. I could not make a variation occur every 16th bar and then a different one for every 24th bar...AFAIK...anyway, yeah thats my requirements. I know the Squarp exists but it has no sounds/samples itself.

Great reference. The thing that I was having problems with is that the midi notes on what I was trying to sequence are for some reason two octaves higher on the Digitakt. I am also having no luck with figuring out how to play the external device and have that be sequenced. I have heard that you need to use autochannel to do that but I haven't been able to figure that out yet.
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 7 жыл бұрын
The keyboard issue: you go into settings, midi settings, channels, look up auto channel setting and set it to say channel 10. Then you switch your midi keyboard to midi channel 10. Then you should be able to play any selected channel and play it.

Digitakt owners, please help. I'm considering exchanging my MPC1000b for a Digitakt. I found someone. But I hesitate. I will use the digitakt as a sampler / drum machine but also as primary sequencer. My setup is for live act 1st & studio 2nd. Now, MPC has 128mb RAM, 2 MIDI in, 2 out, 4 individual audio outs. DT has 64mb RAM, 1 MIDI in & 1 out, no individual outs. MPC's sequencer has 32 MIDI tracks, DT has 8. MPC's sequencer is otherwise more powerful in nearly every way: better resolution, more notes, more everything. But DT has P-locks which is fantastic. Now I'm finding the MPC a bit complicated to use, especially for a live act. I have an MS-20 mini, a Minilogue XD, Waldorf Q Rack, Korg EMX1 +ESX1. For a live act I don't use them all: usually 2 synths (MS-20 + 1 poly) + 1 Electribe. 8 MIDI tracks is usually enough for live, but it's short for studio. What would you advise me to do ? Is DT better for a live act? Thanks...

nice video's, makes me think of replacing my MPC 1000 as studio brain. which brings me to my question. I like the MPC but it has to stop playing when you want to set things up or record which is a bit of a downer when making beats or jamming. Do you think the Digitakt will make a good modern replacement for a MPC 1000 in a small studio/ live set?
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 7 жыл бұрын
+jip Homburg I have little experience with MPCs so its hard for me to say. I think you need to adopt the Elektron workflow in order to truly enjoy the Digitakt. And I am sure you will miss some of the sampling options on the Digi... it doesnt slice samples for example

Thanks for the reply. i've been looking at your video's and tutorials and the workflow on the Digitakt looks more hands on then the MPC. The fact that it also has 8 channels i can sequence my other synths with makes it very interesting for me since I mainly use the MPC for sequencing.

hey Bo! what is the solution to playing live instruments with the digitakt? can you play the keyboard of your external synth and capture the midi in the digitakt to create a loop? i worry that programming note by note would be too clunky of a workflow and will pretty much make the midi tracks useless to me

Thanks for the video! I plan to control my monolouge with the midi and I'm wondering if the patch knob is controllable/ saveable with Digitakt? If I use a certain patch on the mono for a certain pattern on the digi, will it be saved/loaded by the digi when I load a project? this would be great for faster transitions in live shows
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 7 жыл бұрын
+Garvin Kelly hm, I am not sure since I dont know much about the Mono. My guess is that Monologue responds to program change data to switch patches. So therefor you should be able to set up a program change value in the track on the Digi corresponding to the patch on the Mini.

Thanks as always for your great tutorials, Bo. I'm learning a bit about the Digitakt out of curiosity. How do the patterns work, with the 8 monophonic sampler tracks? Does a single pattern consist of the 8 MIDI channels / tracks, as well as the 8 sampler sounds? So, in essence, it's a 9-part sequencer... let's assume your 8 sampler tracks are all drum/percussion sounds. So, you have those 8 tracks as "a drum track", and then MIDI A could be a bassline, MIDI B, chords, MIDI C a lead melody... etc? Thanks for clarifying!

Hey BoBeats, loving the Digitakt got mine a few days ago and its great. I noticed you have a Korg Minilogue like me and I have been trying to understand why I cant get the midi CC of Digitakt to control the filter cutoff. I have read page 57 of the minilogue manual which provides the midi mapping as CC43 but when I set all the correct things in the Digitakt it doesn't work for me. Yeah the video cut because it took time getting it right. But that was because I had an old manual with wrong CC numbers :D

+estudios patagonia not sure I can explain: devices should be set to reciece program change, also set them to the same program change channel. What you should do next should be to assign different kits to the different patterns. So when you change patterns you get the correct kit. Thats the only way I know

BoBeats yes change pattern but the kit no change always put the last kit not the new kit in the pattern

Hey @BoBeats Been a long time fan! I wanted to know if it's possible to program the patterns on the digitakt to control my tr8s. That way I get the sounds I want on the tr8s without having to program both digitakt and tr8s. I'm new to CC control and that is giving me trouble. Thanks so much.

Yes this should be possible but I cant explain it very well here in comments. But you can.

I really wanted to know more about the chord sequencing. When you choose a chord for one step, does it automatically translate to the next one you want to program it to or do you have to program a chord from scratch every time you go to a next step?
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 7 жыл бұрын
You can copy and paste the triggers, that is the easiest way.

And then you can just transpose the whole chord to your will without having to transpose every single note in the chord? Thanks for answering my comment and thank you in general for your amazing videos!

@BoBeats can you explain how the Digitakt would work well with a piece of vintage gear like SP-1200? I'd like to be able to control the MIDI tracks 9-16... do you have access to any vintage equipment to demo? Either control the SP1200 or have it controlled by DT. Thanks for your help.

Question about audio routing of the hardware that Digitakt controls via the MIDI tracks. Can I route the audio out of my 2 synths into the audio inputs of Digitakt so that I can monitor them directly through the Digitakt headphones output without using an audio interface or mixer?

Hm can Eurorack hosts like the Hermod convert a Midi CC message to CV so you could also change stuff on the Mother-32 via the knobs?

Great Tutorial! I was just wondering if it is posibble to use a midi-keyboard like the Keystep to play "live" on the midi channels? Or even just to play in sequences in chromatic mode?

dude did you ever figure this out? not being able to record midi with your external keyboard would be a huge limitation and i’m super anxious to find the solution. i’m all but sold on the digi but i need to figure this out first

@@AlmostHomeSounds sorry, i am not 100% sure. i never did use the digitakt in that way :( maybe a video of loopop could clear that up, he does a lot of videos where he explains complete setups. nevertheless, the digitakt is a great piece of gear. can't really go wrong with it!

Thank you very much! Recently i bought the digitakt and i saw all your videos from this wonderful machine! Little question, im trying to hook a synth roland juno di with the digitakt and i did everything you said between 02:20 to 04:30 of your video, and still no sound... what can it be? Thank you again!

Hmm, make sure monitor is set to ON. Make sure you are recording from L/R inputs (or L or R if you go mono). That should be it
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 5 жыл бұрын
And if you are talking midi: make sure midi channels are correct for both devices. Make aure you have enabled the midi channel on the digitakt midi track.

Hi from the Netherlands, when you connect a midi keyboard (midi in) DT on auto channel you can play and record directly the sequence. I dont' understand why Aftertouch, Mod wheel Pitchband can't be used by keyboard, but only with the 4 knobs. Is that the big difference with the Octatrack ?

I don't think the sequencer can record those things... I think you have to program it manually. But I am not sure.

Jared Rodgers hey! You press the record button once. Now you should see steps light upp. Hold a step, tweak any knob. If value backgrounds changes color (white I think) the value is now program changed!

Can you please tell me what are my actions if I wish Digitakt to control Digitone and my modular system via midi splitter? I mean is there any way to route audio from each device to Digitakt w/o using an external mixer? Or simply send a mono signal from Digitone and modular into the two input channels of the Digitakt? Many thanks in advance! 🙏

As a beginner I felt things were being brought up that I've never heard of and it made this hard to follow. Fyi: I know how to do the Digitakt but I am new to MIDI. I didn't get how channels are connected to other devices and the CC codes didn't make much sense.

HI! I love your channel and ideas. Im trying to set more then one (two actually, Moog sub-batty and micro freak) synth with my Digitakt. But I'm getting only channel one. Im selecting another MIDI channel and it doesn't work. I need to make sure each synth is listening only to one channel. It's possible? How? Thank you!
