Its a pretty cool synth news destination. They do have a forum but I'm specifically talking about this article: www.synthtopia.com/content/2017/05/30/elektron-digitakt-first-impressions/ You've actually been getting a bit of exposure from the editors. Cheers!

what I like about your videos is you have good way of explaining things in a simple way for us beginners which is sadly missing on here, I think you know who I mean he's very good but he goes at brake neck speeds and also covering a lot his moves at the same time!

hi - @14:34 you talk about the different sounds on ch6. Could you go into more detail on that process? Is that a "samplechain" that has different sounds and you are changing the start time on a per step basis? Or, can a different sample be loaded per step?? thanks.
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
It is step programmed sample changes. I will do a more detailed video on how the sequencer works.

That is a nice piece of gear. Over here things have changed a bit, added a Mother 32 to the Jupiter 50 (has an input and can make use of reverb and chorus of the Jup50). The Jupiter is great as a basis, the Moog I wanted to add later for its hands on synthesis and of course sound. Since I was to go for some city trips in France and the weather is pretty crappy I decided to spend my money on a bargain (€649 new!!!) Moog. So the roadmap is to add a vocoder and run everything into a DAW (M-Audio M-Track 2x2M with Cubase LE). The Jup50 and M32 are totally different and that is what I like about both. With the Jup50 you press a preset and you're 80% there, with the M32 you turn one knob and you got something completely of the scale. Next might be the VP-03, it seems good value to me.
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
+Mike Hydropneumatic nice mate! Sounds like a splendid setup combining the power of digital with the raw analog feel of the m32.

I know this video is old and you might already have done that, but if not, you should upgrade the firmware to the latest version. A lot of the knobs shown on screen have been replaced by graphs which make it all the more intuitive. Thanks for the video, it was a big help!

+BoBeats thanks for all the Digitakt vids. Question, can you do triplets on the retrig or do you have to dedicate a separate to allow note to be played with triplets.
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
+bigdap100 hm, I think you can do triplets on retrigs, you can do so many different time sigs of the retrigs that it should be possible.

Another great vid. Question.. Can you sequence 16th steps on track 1 then do 32 steps on track 2? So you can get that Double time/half time feel without loosing the true 4 bar loop? Mine has finally shipped and will be here soon!

+Justin Morgan unsure if this type of resolution changes are possible between tracks. I think its for the whole pattern

So is it right that there is only 33 seconds of total sampling time available on the entire unit or is that per each individual sample?
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
You can sample 33 sec in one take but it has 60mb ram per project which is what you can load from the +drive. So you can load multiple 33 sec mono samples

Hey Bo! Huge fan and I love your music. I have an OP-1, Minilogue, and Ableton Live. I'm considering the DT as my next hardware. Would this be a good companion piece? I'd want to use it as a drum machine/sampler/arranger for me other synths, as well as a standalone piece for having fun!
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
+Nicholas Solcz I think it works really well together with synths like the Minilogue. The OP-1 might be a little harder to figure out a good workflow with a Digi as they do similar things. As a standalone arranger it is a little limited since it lacks song mode or ways to structure a song. But other than that its formidable as a sequencer. Glad to have you as a viewer!

Is the unidentified sound a clave, or wood block maybe? Who knows, it sounds great, and so does your song. You make the DT seem approachable, and that's a good thing for people (such as myself) who aren't Elektron owners, but are curious about this little box. I have to say that the synthesis capabilities of this thing stand out the most to me, and it's cool that the MIDI outs can be used as sync jacks. Lastly, it's black and yellow. Like a bee.
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
+Michael Smith thanks mate! A clave seems about right.

Bo, how do you shoot these videos? I would like to record some of my live jams.. It must be more complicated than just setting up you phone and recording?
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
I shoot my videos with a Canon 700D DSLR, Sigma 18-35 mm art lens. On a white table with 2x softboxes (lights). Thats my standard setup. I also use a GoPro Hero 5 for some of the wider overhead shots. But a smartphone and decent lighting works fine.
@justinmorgan1017 жыл бұрын
BoBeats Do you record the Digitakt (or whatever instrument) using the cameras mic or do you record the audio from the master out direct to the camera? Or record to a DAW then sync the video and audio post production?
@chatolars7 жыл бұрын
What a great video Bo, just checking this one out (again) and can't thank you enough on how comprehensive video/tutorial/ on the digitakt this has been... I'm actually on the quest for this one versus the OP-1...I know they serve different purposes but anyway: what are your thoughts on the Op-1? ...beeing yourself an influencer at this point . Thanks again
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
+chatolars thanks mate! So the OP-1 and the Digitakt are similar in some ways. Both are limited, but can do full tracks, and are very fun. I guess the Digitakt has two big plus: its easier to integrate in a larger setup due to midi sequencing and having a dedicated role as a drum machine. The OP-1 strength is that it is truly a groovebox with a good sounding synth engine. So to me, on paper, it comes down to wanting a more synth focused or more sequencer/brain of the setup focused product.
@chatolars7 жыл бұрын
BoBeats than you so much for the quick answer, cheers

unbelievable sound - does all come from mother? I'm also still uncertain what might be best for me performing... only got my basic modular with seq so far - guess I prefer live jam compared to presampling everything. Any help is much appreciated B-)
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
DJ Free the sounds are one shots sampled into the Digi and then played chromatically. All sounds from Mother 32 to start but Digi adds a lot of character. The Digi would probably work well with a modular rig!
@djfree54357 жыл бұрын
BoBeats ye but I'm not sure if it's my thing - I prefer freestyle performances but can't do much with my basic modular and seq yet (at least nothing what makes ppl dance) so I'm still uncertain where to go from here

Thank so much for the tutorial, I have asked for it some time ago, but it seems that Digitakt was the right tool for sampler tutorial. The more I watch demos of it the more I appreciate it, but still think it is priced wrongly. You do have an Octatrack also if i remember correctly or? How do you think it compares to Octatrack in terms of ease-of-use?

Bloody hate the pronunciation of the Elektron way. "Digi" part of the name is an abbreviated version of "Digital", now, say the first part of "Digital" to yourself and then add "takt" on the end of it, hey presto, the way is should be . You don't say Dig-e-tal, when you say digital? Haha, minor nit-picking but it is one of those things that when I hear it, it makes me NOT want to buy one, lol.
@BoBeats7 жыл бұрын
Digital has a Swedish pronounciation you know? And Takt is a Swedish word :-) Digi-Takt. Digital Takt. Which can be said in Swedish! See it all makes sense. Same with Analog Rytm!
@ChrisLongR167 жыл бұрын
Yup, I know that but as said, it grates on me, lol. Digi, for me is pronounced Didgie, listen to an english person pronounce digital and you'll know what I mean.

I know I know :) But you english speakers got to excuse us Swedish plebs :D
@ChrisLongR167 жыл бұрын
Haha, I wouldn't go that far mate ;) Either way, enjoyed the video, still debating on one, but my hate for the Octatracks sequencing/menu diving is putting me off a bit. I'm tempted by the MPC X too, but that's a pretty penny.
