Hey there Crowneprince I'm a long time fan of your animations and videos, i know its a long shot but i think its worth trying to re-appeal the KZbin Kids Tag On your Fly Away Video By TheFatRat Map what they did isn't fair and i think you should try to plead your case again, who knows maybe something will have changed since then.

Literally the most useful tool in my repertoire, especially as someone who was afraid of coloring for the longest time
@Wissle Жыл бұрын
Why were you afraid of coloring? In what sense?
@MikeDragon Жыл бұрын
This is another thing that I use very frequently on Photoshop when working on my art. One of the great things this tool is good for is for finding the ideal shade/hue for a particular color when coloring something but the color you chose initially doesn't look quite "there" as you'd like.

It's important to mention that a desaturated image has different values compared to the same image in black and white
@CrownePrince Жыл бұрын
I think what you're getting at is that there are different grayscale filters? By which I mean, you can use HSB to desaturate an image, but there are also usually a couple different Black/White conversion options that distribute values differently. Levels or Curve adjustments are better options if you want to control an image's value (regardless of whether it's desaturated). That's in one of the upcoming art tips.

Not exactly. For example, at the point of the video where you make the blue 'only less saturated' you also make it lighter. You can see it clearly in the video, and you will see it by comparing the colors in grayscale mode.

This was really helpful, thank you.

it is important to note, that in fact, brightness, lightness and value, are not the same. they are all responsible for how dark or "bright"(for a lack a of a better term) the resulting color is. A maximum brightness or lightness results in white, and maximum value can be white, but also every other hue+sat combos in their "brightest" form. The "brightest" blue in HSV does have a noticible lower perceived brightness, than the "brightest" red in HSV. As far as i understood the definitions of the colorspaces, only hue+saturation combos with the same brightness in HSB do actually have the same perceived brightness against a neutral background (because perceived brightness might vary with different adjacent colors. human color perception is absolutly mind twisting); while lightness in HSL is basically a non weighted "brightness" only relevant to the same hue+sat combos, meaning it works only relative to one color

This stuff is available in post processing too if you use 3D software. Super useful in 3D renders for adjusting lights, shadows, textures, etc since those can sometimes take AGES to adjust if your scene is populated with lots of objects.

I end up using this for my lighting like too dull? slap that saturation up to get a cool moonlight effect it is also really helpful when trying to get shadows to the right darkness
@toltottkaposzta6427 Жыл бұрын
Be carful with that, you have to change hue as well when shading. Light reflects and bounces around, even in shadows, (especially in shadows), so keep in mind the environment and different light sources that may affect how your scene looks. In addition, colors interact with each other in different ways based on where they are on the color wheel; you cannot just slap the hue slider inbetween complementary colors for example, and expect realism. Marco Bucci made a great video on the topic, if you're interested, check that out!

Hey Prince, next time you do a MAP, I would be very happy to participate in it, I watched your flay away MAP when I was little, and loved it!. So, tell me next time you happen to host one and I will do a part!

This is also great for isolating colors when color grading video! Trying to pick exactly the right color range on a wheel or with the eyedropper is a nightmare. Picking a good reference color and then fine-tuning the H/S/V based on where it's missing or bleeding over is much easier.

So do you also draw in RGB or is HSB in every way superior?
@CrownePrince Жыл бұрын
I doubt it's objectively superior, especially if you've been trained to think in terms of RGB. (Which might be the case if you do a lot of physical prints and grew up on RGB printers, or if you're a traditional painter used to mixing physical pigments.) HSB is a lot more intuitive for me personally and I switch to it whenever it's an option.

@@CrownePrince I see! I'm not actually sure atm what color space pone vectors and the flash animation usually used, I mostly sticked with that because I needed the show accuracy
@eimazd Жыл бұрын
I legit just keep my color picker on HSV mode, only going to RGB to mess with shades of brown or orange (which needs a bit more fine-tuning than just the hue slider)
@gobokinje9183 Жыл бұрын
Or HSB a single layer at a time :D
@ErdemtugsC7 ай бұрын
I mostly use rgb one
@CelineTaylor105 Жыл бұрын
Anyone know if you can adjust HSB in Procreate, and how to do so?
@CrownePrince Жыл бұрын
Yes, and I think it's the top option under the "adjustments" menu.
