I used a girl on Rover when I went on Vacation. I had put off Vacation because of my Dogs. She was phenomenal. Pictures and texts from my babies everyday. I always mention Rover to everyone. It's a great thing. She stayed at my place the entire week over Christmas. She came highly recommended. A good Dog sitter is a load off your mind!!

What would be cool is to have a day time pet sitter while visiting a National Park. You can’t take dogs on trails in National Parks but a lot of us travel with dogs and want to make sure they are okay when we are exploring.

Julie Olsen I would love that job! I was just thinking that it would be cool to have a mobile dog park for events like RTR and the like. Especially since folks have to have their critters on leash. I'd even do it donation based. Water, pooper scooper, shade, moveable fencing, toys, and a sort of release from the pet parents would be needed. Can you think of anything else?

I was just watching another RV nomad's videos who was at a nature preserve, where she commented that she couldn't take long sightseeing bus trips or hiking trips, and definitely couldn't camp overnight somewhere because she had to get back to her dog (whom she loves and takes good care of). I was even thinking the same...wouldn't it have been nice, being she really didn't know the other people at the RV camp ground, if she could get someone reliable and safe to take care of her dog when she was away doing those things, so she wouldn't have had to rush back all the time, or forego stuff? Good idea, Robin, as always...God bless!

Thank you for the well thot out plan of dog walking and as I read the comments I can’t help but to think where has the simple days gone? I know it’s a different day and the people are loads different than when I did this as a young teenager. I didn’t have insurance on me or the dogs that I walked, didn’t fear for my life or theirs, the owner would simply leave the key under a mat and I was responsible enough to lock door after the walk and replace the key where I found it. I really appreciate this segment. People like you make the RV/van/nomad community that much better!

Hi Robin :) So I live in a Skoolie with 4 kitties, my service dog, and a 7-month-old Chihuahua pup that just never sold lol. Trust me, I have been trying. I had to have Bariatric surgery on February 5th, 2019. I parked right next to the hospital (shout out to Southern Surgical Hospital of Slidell, Louisiana; you guys ROCK!!) and the kitties were perfectly fine. Ravyn, my service dog, stayed with me in my room. That left one Chihuahua who could not stay kenneled for three days lol... I used Rover.com. It cost me $60, and the wonderful lady I contacted came TO the bus, and got Felony out, walked and fed him and even took him home with her to play with her kids and dogs. They are amazing, but you hit the nail on the head when you said every situation is different! Mine is but a small example lol. With that said, if you ever have time, would you contact me, Robin? Please. I am disabled and live on a super small, very fixed income and just have no skills! I am a writer, yes. but unpublished and no clue how to make money (quickly) doing that. As a working member of society, I was an over-the-road truck driver. Obviously, that does not help me now. I went to the University of South Alabama and even a couple of tech schools for different computer related things, but due to circumstances mostly beyond my control, I was unable to finish. I've worked as a mechanic, changed tires, hung steel scaffolding etc. All things that don't help me now, I can no longer do or don't have enough formal training and experience to make a go of. Most workamp jobs require you to be a couple, especially working the gates for oil fields etc., and/or require physical work I cannot be dependable trying to do. Sometimes I can, other times there is no way. Anyway, I am desperate to get some money going. I can't afford to buy things needed to get started, such as KZbin streaming/videos, etc. I confess I would enjoy doing a blog and videos on my travel as a disabled single woman with pets in a Skoolie lol. I guess the point is that I am in desperate need of some money or even a loan.... quickly and no family to help so I need to figure out something. I was hoping perhaps we could chat about ideas I could do, if you have time. I am in desperate need of solar. $748 plus tax, then add the cost of 6-volt batteries. And who will install this since I just had surgery? My tires are flat out rotten, I am leaking oil and need new inner wheel seals lol. No running water or shower. Don't get me wrong... I LOVE my nomad life and would have it no other way, but I am teetering on a knife's blade and one tick of the second hand could end it all. If it were just me, I wouldn't care but my furry kids mean EVERYTHING to me. They pulled me through parts of my life I did not want to be here for. Sorry, I talk too much lol. .But I wanted to throw that out there. I'm boondocking at Lake Daniel Or Daniel Lake, whatever it is lol just outside of Breckenridge, Texas atm and plan to be here until my next check on the third of April, 2019. Then I'll have about $100 I can spend on fuel and try to get a bit further (or closer, depending on how you look at it) to Flagstaff area for the summer. So I'll be here a bit if you would like to chat, thanks.. and please be safe out there. :)
@wytchwoodhomesteadandkenne50365 жыл бұрын
I kind of lost focus for a bit there lol. The reason I was talking about where I am boondocking and the amount I have to travel on every month is simply to explain that Rover.com might be AWESOME for me, but I would have to do it once I actually had a little cash money coming in. Reason being, fuel for the bus to drive around (I have nothing I can pull behind the bus), and atm I am in the middle of nowhere lol! I look forward to being able to plan to be near a major city on certain dates and simply leave and travel there, then set up in a campground if I want once I get there. But for now, I have no choice but to boondock, which is usually in two-week increments or less and have no toad to drive around. Sorry that I did not make that clearer in my original post; not enough coffee yet this morning lol! :)

Why not offer that service to other campers and not have to give a company a chunk of your earnings. Also, maybe some RV parks would be willing to made a deal with you for offering that service. ❤️
@karinhart4896 жыл бұрын
paqueenb I believe I saw something like you're suggesting in the RV parks where work-campers were staying while working the Xmas rush season for Amazon. It was the spouse of the person working. They let dogs out for a supervised run or walk mid working day for others, as well as offering a laundry & grocery shopping service because work-campers were so tuckered out when they got home. Wouldn't work everywhere, but there are plenty of seasonal situations where it could.
@BGr8ful4all6 жыл бұрын
Karin Hart I haven’t camped for 45 years since Girl Scouts. But for whatever reason, maybe it’s because I’m dirt poor as my disability isn’t enough to keep a roof over my own head and my dogs, and had to move in with my dad. But, I’ve been studying RV living for the past month or two. It makes sense to have something set up with camps to do dog sitting and food/errand/taxi runs to help people get what they need without everybody having to take their RV from their spot. Also if they want to sightsee and not leave their animals in their RV for an extended time, they can have peace of mind that someone’s going to let them out to go to the bathroom and/or feed them. I think most RV Parks should offer those services. It wouldn’t cost them anything, as they would get a cut of every service provided by others that they employ. But some people would find it difficult to move their RV for a day at the beach or sightseeing, so it would also be nice to have buses or larger vehicles transport people to predetermined spots for several hours, like the beach, Museums, and other interesting or fun places to be explored. That would increase the parks revenue also.

I get it, micro focus on one dialed in subject for KZbin but life is many aspects. one of which you mention in your intro. I love arts and crafting etc, so when your intro also mentions painting, I really want to see some and get a bit of a view into that part of your life showcased in the into. I checked the playlist to see if possibly you had tucked some there, but no.

I'm from Seattle. Rovers home. We live in the Bay Area and we did both Rover and Wag. Even with my gf tiny Lil 4 cylinder car, and walking 4 dogs a day, there just wasn't enough money in it. It was maybe $100 a day before taxes, fuel, maintenance, etc. If you can't make money in the Bay Area, where else is gonna pay better? Lol. Also, they demand pictures, report cards, etc. One day we were just go go go and because she didn't do the report card in 15 minutes the customer complained. Rover wants nice great people, but they don't care if the clients are shitty, annoying, demanding or rude.

Rover is a fleecing business. In other words... the dog owner pays $20/hr and you get $10... Unless you are in an area for a while, this is not the best option bc most owners prefer to use the same walkers over and over. How do you know anything about the dog owner? So... maybe you get a job to walk a dog and when you show up there is a man in the house... maybe he is safe, maybe not. What if someone steals a dog from you? I personally know THREE people who have had their dogs stoeln from their own yards! If you injure yourself, too bad. If you slip and fall, too bad.
