Good day mate thank u so very much for your time making us a great wonderful video really I appreciate your time 🙏🏻😊👌,, if u may my asking u a question as I’m not quite sure about fishing gears things 😊, i received two rods plus a reels as a birthday present few years a go , one is a Okums High performance Trio-REX SURF Rod and reel is Shimano 8000 OC 4 Bearings BAITRUNNER . Second Rod is Okuma high performance X-Factor XP-1603SFM,16’(4.8m) 8-10kg. Reel is a Fine-Nor LETHAL LT100. Are they good or need something more better? Many Thanks 😊😎 Cheers Matt

Hey Matt, those rods and reels are pretty good, the reels are both quality (as long as they have been looked after) and the rods are not bad either....

Very informative video thanks man! Just got a 14000 Saragosa SW A paired with a Shimano Energy concept rod. Had a few practise sessions with Thunnus 8000 and 8ft uglystik which landed some nice kahawai but planning a few landbased stickbaiting sessions to target Kingis now. Also...do you have a recommendation for a live baiting reel for off the rocks? I love my spinning gear but seems overhead is the way to go with live baiting. Cheers man
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 2 жыл бұрын
If you've got the funds to get a dedicated live bait rig then a tld25 running 24kg mono is a top choice, match it to a 6.5-7ft boat rod for 24kg and its a winner.....the tld25 wouldn't suit the Energy concept rod....you would have to get a rod made for over head reels. A tld20 would also work if one came up at a good price.....less mono capacity but you could put 100M of 80lb braid under 200yd of 24kg mono if you think you might hook a big king or even a shark....

@@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches thanks so much for your reply. I may have confused you, the topwater gear was a seperate comment I wasnt planning on pairing an over head with the energy concept rod :) thanks for the info though, tld25 seems the go to. Cheers

This is incredibly helpful thank you so much for sharing!! I have a question about the reel vs drag department as I'm planning to get my hands on a Daiwa BG MQ for a PE6-8 setup which has a max drag setting around 15kg. Would that be sufficient or am I cutting too close to the limit ? I'm on the fence about dumping my kidney for a Saltiga hahaha. Many thanks
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah good question. In theory it should work fine. A couple of points - fishing 12kg of drag with a spin outfit is quite hard and definitely difficult over a longer period of time, even with if you were fishing with a game fishing rod/reel and harness, you still really feel the pressure. 2ndly, 15kg of drag may not be enough if you were fishing 13kg of drag on every fish on every trip but that's probably not going to be the case. 10-11kg will be plenty for 80% of the fish you encounter. It's great to have the extra up your sleeve when you hook a freight train bound for the sharpest part of the reef. 3rdly, you can always palm the spool if you really need another 20% drag or want to lock it up but then just be careful you have the proper rod angle so it doesn't snap the tip and all the pressure is focused on like the butt section. The Penn's have some reel with higher drag ratings but they are also heavier if you're casting all day. I think the Daiwa BG MQ is a great all round reel, value for money I handled one when they first came out and our magazine did a review on it (Fishing in Godzone).

Good video mate. Do stick baits work at night? I found fg knots don't work if you go below 50lb mono. I always crimp my mono these days. Its super fast and reliable. You can also add line armour where it goes through the swivel. I went a whole year without a break off.
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I know guys who have caught kings at night but usually near some kind of night source that also attracted bait fish......yeah below 50lb I use other knots but stickbaiting for kings calls for the heavier mono...never thought of crimping although I crimped a short section of bite line for fishing in the tropics and hooked dogtooth off the rocks...didn't land any though!

nah FG works well in any braid, i tie from pe8 to 0.6. agree on crimps though!

Thanks for the video! I recently bought a BG MQ 8000 ARK reel do you think that will be okay for stickbaits and metal casting? (has 110cm line retrieval) im going for spanish mackerel off the rocks mainly and I am looking for a rod to pair with it.
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 11 ай бұрын
Yeah that reel's designed specifically for top water and chasing pelagics, you should slay a few with that reel. Dont know what your budget is but the Saltist Hyper 9'6" PE 4-6 rod could be a good match for off the stones...

Awesome videos bro, just a question. I have a 7ft 8-10kg rod with a spin reel, not ideal I know but assuming I could give stick baiting a go with this if I am light on the line. It’s rigged up with 20lb (maybe 25lb) mono. What other types of fishing would this setup be suitable for ? Thanks in advance!
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it would be best for stray lining for snapper, kahawai and trevally....or dropping ledger rigs in 0-40M. If you hooked a kingfish over sand or mud you could stickbait but mono doesn't cast as far as braid and may interfere with the action of the lure.....not impossible but not ideal.

hey there great vid, i know im a bit late, but I have had my eyes on a saltist hyper rod 9'6 pe 4-6. My mate has one of these rods and they feel very good and a great rod for the money, but im wondering if this rod is too long for stick baiting. PS It will also be a rod i can chuck a livey or bait off the wharf for jewfish here in aus.
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches Жыл бұрын
That's a good length for fishing form the land, it will work stickbaits just fine. You may not need a full sweep of the rod to work the lure, keep watching the lure to see how to get the best action out of it.

Hi would the diawa saltist 8000 be a good reel for hawkes bay topwater?
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 10 ай бұрын
Yes they are good mid level topwater reels. The drag/high gear ratio is designed for topwater. If you are expecting to encounter 25kg+ kings over shallow reefs then you will need heavy PE8 line and a higher rated reel but for 20M+ depths and kings up to 20kg they will do the job.
