I would say that 1080p down to 900p isn't that much of a difference unless you have a 50+ inch screen, like a flat panel TV or a big gaming monitor. I did a comparison on my 24 inch 1080p monitor and it really doesn't look all that different. However, playing certain Switch exclusives like Breath of the Wild or Odyssey on my 60 inch 1080p flat panel TV shows a much bigger difference, especially in the distance, because you can obviously see stuff in the distance easier on a bigger panel. So BotW for example does look pretty foggy on my TV. I would say 2160p down to 1440p is a bigger difference, even on a smaller flat panel, just because it's a bigger resolution drop than 1080p to 900p. Basically in the current era of TVs and monitors, 1440p is the new 720p while 2160p is the new 1080p. Obviously 1080p to 720p is a much bigger difference than 1080p to 900p.

Now that Zen has been released, and that Intel are now using Radeon graphics, it is finally possible for that to happen. They would have had to have gone the laptop route and had a separate CPU and dGPU on the board to have had this in the original Xbox One/PS4, which would have been more expensive.

That's actually not true. All the console versions run on the same settings, the only real difference being the resolution. So, if Xbox One X runs on mostly High settings then so do the PS4/Pro and base Xbox One/S. Developers do this not only to optimize their games across all consoles, but also to make sure that console gamers don't feel like they have an inferior version of a game to another version. The only odd one out is the Switch which requires games like this to run on Low settings because it is vastly underpowered compared to the other consoles. And for the record, I'm not a PS4 fanboy. I'm a PC gamer mostly and the rest of my gaming goes to my Switch or my retro consoles. I usually use my PC for games like Wolfenstein because I can get better graphics and better performance than PS4 or XbOne. Not bragging, but it's the truth.

I reckon next gen has the potential to bring the gaming world to a serious all new level. Btw wolf 2 kind of dropped the ball both on pc and consoles. The devs might have not been used to the new engine. I played it on pc and while fps were decent thanks to vulkan, i and many others experienced a lot of graphical issues and poor optimisation. Textures were especially a let down. Very inconsistent to say the least.

As gamers, we quarrel about resolution and frame rate, but can we all get together and push for these developers to enable a setting to remove the HUD from games or map it to a dedicated button on the controller to allow us to toggle it on and off during gameplay?? HUDs cause burn-in on OLED TVs and most of the information is not necessary to view 100% of the time.

So basically they've done the exact same job porting the game to both consoles with the only real difference being that they set the max resolution higher on the XB1X because it had a higher ceiling. So basically if you have both consoles then you'd pick it up on XB1X for the increased resolution as multi-player isn't an option but if you only have one or the other you'll get the exact same gameplay experience as far as frame-rate and textures.

Yes we have. There are online charts showing that to notice the difference between 1080p and 4K you have to be sat around 3.5ft from a 55" screen, let alone 1440p and 4k

Connor Berry. 30 FPS, dynamic res from 900/720P docked with muddy textures as Wolf is a VRAM hog. Basically how Doom looks on Switch which is good enough is the experience is the same.

my bad. seem like PC version of this game doesn't even support OpenGL anymore, only DX12 and Vulkan. PS4 doesn't support DX12 and both consoles has identical performance, they may use vulkan on both system or maybe just a consoles high/low level api. (I'm a little bit confused since I haven't seen any word from microsoft about vulkan support on xbox, only sony and nintendo announce vulkan support for their consoles)

Neurotyczny Kot Dx on xbox , ps4 and switch have their own custom api I believe. Ps4 has 2 actually, lower level one and higher level one. Probably same for switch

Either way you slice it. The PS4 PRO still looks great and at 100 bucks less and all their big exclusives coming out doesn't warrant buying the X. Especially anyone who truly cares about power already has a gaming rig capable of native 4K, better graphic options, better framerates and free to play online without paying for XBOX Live Gold and besides with the play anywhere campaign you can play Xbox exclusives on your PC.

+Squidel AT That is true but there is more of a difference between the PS4 SLIM and PS4 PRO than the X and the PRO. The PS4 PRO is more than twice as powerful than the slim and you also get the better HDMI port so that it bumps it up to 2160.

Interesting comparison... Do you think the small framerate drops on both consoles be attributed to those areas of the game missing out on optimisations to keep the frames locked at 60? At the most for both consoles the dropped framerate was only 3 frames, so is it that the developer thought that this was acceptable and didn't worry about this last tweak to get them locking?

You're joking, you must be. The Pro is a success for SONY and it was only obvious that one of these machines was going to be stronger than the other. Should SONY have waited to get leaks about what MS was going to offer? Why would they. These two machines scratch a particular itch: higher end gaming for individuals who do NOT want to fully invest in a PC setup. We are so far into this console generation that the XBX is really only here for branding. MS now has the most powerful console on market, period. That is great for marketing, but if you think that's putting a dent in four years of sales you're crazy.

No, the Xbox One was a rushed mistake. When many of your games were 720p-900p, and couldn't even hit 1080p many times, and had bad frame rates, this new console shows MS should've put more thought in the base model first. They've now fixed the mistakes but Sony has sold more than twice the consoles worldwide and grabbed attention. MS fixed the problems here, but probably too late. New XBX console is still expensive and they are ridiculously behind in sales.

Hi there, how come nobody mention oneX issues such as textures frequent flickering/blurring when moving the camera? this is a really weird and bothering effect. Moreover, OneX version stutters a bit (frame pacing I think) so the experience isn't as fluid and smooth as on PS4pro (I own both). Anyway, i'm a bit disappointed by the oneX as several main games don't look finished (shadow bugs, tearing, stutters etc...), as if the console was struggling to render 4k. Anyway, I had to send it back to retailer as mine had a sound issue with frequent crackles and audio clics :(
