In the Fable showing, the main villain is a corrupted hero in the lore. It even says so in the subs. Humphry is actually talking about the main villain throughout the trailer, not you. So definitely you can either side with good or evil. So be good or evil is obviously still a main schtick of Fable. Incredible trailer.

“DirectX Box” was the original name for the XBox when it was pitched by Seamus Blackley to Microsoft. He was working on DirectX at the time and unsurprisingly him and his team were avid gamers so they came up with a pitch. Later it was abbreviated to XBox. I think it’s mentioned in an IGN interview with Seamus Blackley if anyone wants to look it up.

I would argue that much of this is not this generation. No launch dates or window tells me much of it is actually going to end up at the beginning of the next generation of hardware. Likely means no new Gears of War this generation. Perfect Dark not likely on the current hardware. If these games were far enough along to make this generation we would have seen more and certainly more gameplay. Partly because of issues at some of the studios and partly because they don't all have multiple teams working on different games. I think we are going to end up with Microsoft not releasing new games in their biggest franchises this generation. That has been their weakest flaw vs Sony. Sony has released titles in most of their big franchises the generation. For Xbox it's pretty much just been Halo and the Forza games. And much of the other games that have or will be released are not even going to be exclusive.

MGS3 Delta supposedly uses the original VO lines since in JP a few of the VA have passed, plus it means they didn't have to recast or re-record any lines, and it definitely sounded like the original in the trailer, which would mean they can't change cutscenes besides graphics, similarly if the game's still using the original logic under the hood like a Bluepoint game does then it means the animations could be very similar if not the same as the original game, which I don't think is a bad thing but that would explain why it looks a little weird.

MS do not have a clue hardware wise. Those sku are pointless. They really should just drop the Series S and have Series X disc/non disc version also drop the price it needs to be cheaper over PS5 (It's a joke how an all digital console has such little storage as well) I gave up on MS towards end of 360. As for Fable. This trailer was full on what happens if you chose evil. half way through one of the heroes says she's a hero and should be able to do what she wants. At the end you see her with black smoke leaking out of her pours.

That whole showcase brought me back to the western rpg/bro shooter days of the 360. Gears of War, Doom, Fable, Call of Duty, Perfect Dark, Bethesda expansions, and so on. If they pull it off they might have something and a real competitive alternative against Sony’s narrative focused games. And an actual benefit/variety to being on both platforms. Usually XBox is cursed, so I am surprised to see they might get lucky with a good COD entry. Imagine if their first year with COD on GP was MW3? Would have been a bloodbath. Lol Given how long it takes to make games these days, we were always years away from them producing anything even once they started their spending spree. And Sony nabbed the first 2 Bethesda games of the gen to boot. But given how the first 3 years of the gen went I wasn’t sure it would come together. Jury’s always out until we get the releases but nice to actually have some level of excitement for XBox again after so long. They desparately needed that showcase, and they got it.

There is one thing that Delta don't do the same as MGS3 : lighting. If you look at the original intro sequence, there is a very strong yellow tint inside the plane. Now it's just grey. The other difference people have picked uppon is the change in Big Boss design. But I say it was inevitable, now that they're aiming for something more realistic.

Perfect Dark was my game of youth and probably my favourite game of my entire teens with 1000 hours into it before Halo took my attention. But I have low expectations. You can't really recreate the N64 feel and nostalgia in a good way in something that as you say, lied dormant for 25 years. Zero was never good. Old team of Rare that made all those gems in the Super Famicon, N64 era were disbanded decades ago. And we all felt the identity disperse in the wind. Just like Blizzard and Gears going to the Coalition. Passion and original thinking went into product making. With that said, I will give it a chance and look closely on the reviews. This will only work if they make a solid 9 or 10 because that is what Perfect Dark was. And honestly. I'm fine with what we got back then. I don't really need a new Perfect Dark. But best of luck.

About game exclusivity. What's the point of keeping games on one platform? Maybe... to have a platform worth selling?? Based on the same logic, what's the point of Microsoft selling Xbox consoles? It will literally end up being the worst investment in the market! If they want to pretend to be a console seller AND a 3rd party publisher... one of these will have to go. The fact that they're selling so few Xboxes and exclusives is due to their own shitty management, poor communication and Gamepass. So the fact that they HAVE TO put out games on other platforms is a result of their own failures as a Platform owner. If they weren't such f*ck ups with game quality and release schedules, they wouldn't be preaching multi-platform in the first place.

Just proves that fans of a franchise actually get into a story and just want to see any glimpse of a game. Casuals like myself need a lot more to care. Metal Gear Solid and Fable look the most interesting to me as I’m more of a single player fan these days. And certain franchises like Doom or Gears are probably great but don’t know if any of it excites me.

Xbox will eventually just become the Netflix of gaming imo with Game Pass, which would essentially be on PlayStation, PC, and maybe a box they make that’s just purely for Game Pass. They’d save money on hardware and they could make a fortune being a digital library/app. Getting $15-$20 a month per play could be big time for them and again you don’t have to be in the console field and deal with the hardware costs that a new Xbox brings.

Heard hands on impressions from Gamescom last year (Gamestar) and from Luke Stevens now. Both said the game was an absolute mess technically. Gamestar said it was Super unstable, super buggy, borderline unplayable basically. He said it feels years away. I believe him because of the devastating feedback from Gamescom last year. It seems to be in no good shape. Just wanted to give you that for expectation management. There might be another delay as well.

While I find the announcements exciting and believe it was a great presentation from Xbox, I don't share the same level of enthusiasm as most. I'm not a fan of these heavily edited presentations where they mix cinematics with what is supposed to be gameplay. I prefer more straightforward gameplay presentations where we can clearly appreciate the actual game. Only the South of Midnight presentation came even briefly close to this.

I wish it was okay for games to be like 8-14 hours again. The reason why game development takes so dang long now is they're almost always 30+ hours now. That said Senuas Saga: Hellblade II took a while and was only about 6 hours long. I don't know for sure why that was but I imagine partly because the tracks were being laid as the train was moving, UE5 being so unfinished for most of development.

Maybe I'm off base though, maybe their fundamentals really take so long that they make the game longer in the meantime. I have to imagine asset production and designing the levels just take largest chunk of time, which would both be reduced with shorter games. Generally. I really don't see an issue, especially if Lost Legacy and Miles Morales are good examples, they could be $40-$50 too. More room for iteration, less risk. People don't have to go through all of Highschool before a sequel comes out. Doesn't need to be every game but maybe it could relieve the tumultuous state that the games industry is in.

We have had so many gears and forza games over the years I would have liked to see a new ip or something like killer instinct get a sequel. Even a new banjo or conker could have been nice to see we don’t really need another gears so soon.
