@@HugoStiglitz88 Metroid Prime is not photorealistic lmao And OP’s right… The closer you get to portraying reality, the less room you have for artistic expression. “Photorealistic” games that looked cutting-edge in the late 2000s look muddy and generic now. The games that DID age well are the ones that had some visual purpose + identity besides “make it look as detailed and real as possible”. For example, CoD 4 was unanimously seen as more visually impressive than Halo 3 on launch. Now, it looks like shit and needed a remake, while Halo 3’s original art direction and lighting are praised for aging gracefully.

Splatoon 2 and/or 3 should have made the list, really. The graphics look great and feature some really cool aesthetic unique to different modes or DLC like Octo Expansion with its 80s throwback. There are also other technical parts you could look into like the “hair physics” (well, more like “tentacle physics”) and how the ink look and interact with the environments. Astral Chain also deserves a spot here. It’s more than just the “Ahneemay looking game” and deserved more recognition for its fantastic visual and art direction. As it’s not an open world game but more like a sandbox, they’re able to put in some really fine details and NPCs to populate the world, with many interesting locations like a neon-filled metropolis or the sunbathed slum that is a reminiscent of the Kowloon Walled City. The game, though locked at 30fps, also runs great, given the amount of particle effects, enemies and the busy environments going on all at once, on top of the fact that you’re controlling up to two characters simultaneously, dishing out ridiculous combos. Seriously, this game deserves more recognition!

Both good mentions, I do disagree. I played and loved Astral Chain, but it doesn’t nearly run good enough to make this list imo. Stunning graphical design, absolutely. But the game dips to mid to low 20’s when there is a lot going on on screen, (wich is almost always the case) also unlike most games on this list, the game runs at 900p docked wich again definitely isn’t optimal. It makes me wonder if they could’ve have done even more, if they would’ve dialed it back a bit on the effects. Sometimes less is more. (Like the ‘Touryst’ proves) Splatoon I’d agree completely if it wasn’t for the resolution dropping immensely every 2-3 seconds. The game needs to maintain a smooth 60fps to ensure it hits it’s performance target 100% of the time. So the Resolution very often drops to 864p. It isn’t that noticeable thanks to the artstyle and massive amounts of Ink effects on screen but, in the game, try looking up to the sky then look down again. Once you see it you can not unsee it anymore. I’m not saying these games are not stunning looking, I’m just saying, try out, Touryst, Fast RMX or Metroid Prime Remastered and you’ll see what I mean.

The Touryst being in there is screamingly wrong. I'm sure it's a nice game but ??? the hell? This video says it's specifically the best graphics. Blocky pixel retro is not unique, nor is it that amazing VS a deep-art-involved game. Just letting that little Nintendo bias leak out & put a game they like on as opposed to one that deserves to be there. Can't trust DF when it comes to Nintendo to give good opinions and information. Plenty of times a port that looked and ran like shit was somehow fine because "SO AMAZING IT RUNS THIS WELL!" vs the regular person thinking "Oh wow they turned down some UE 4 settings to make it look like shit and still run worse, GJ".

John, you need to go back and look over Pikmin 4’s Serene Shores. Seeing that level at sunset is magical. Especially the specular effects of the wet sand when the water recedes. Pikmin 4 made me stop and stare almost as much Luigi’s Mansion 3. Great video! 🙏

Everything is micro transactions, releasing incomplete games and charging to buy the rest of it, pretty interactive movies with non existent and non stimulating gameplay. As a whole there’s a real lack of creativity and fun energy imo. So much of what Sony and Microsoft have put out feels a little cookie cutter or same-y. One thing I give Nintendo a lot of credit for is that ever since I was a kid and even now it feels like they’re always actively thinking about what kind of new thing they can come up with, what new twist to spin, how to keep things fresh and tread new ground. And any time I buy a Nintendo IP I always feel like I’m buying/playing a complete game.

I haven't yet played the Bowsers Fury extra content portion of the game, so I had no idea the frame-rate is affected by whether you play in portable mode or not. Usually the aspect of a game that's affected whether you're playing in docked or portable mode has to do with resolution, not the frame-rate.

Engage's scenery only looks good for like the first map, after that it takes a huge dip and looks more akin to a mobile game. The maps are also very light on graphical density, nothing really stands out from a graphical standpoint which is also why it holds stable 30 so easily, not much objects there to begin with.

Alien Isolation is the best by far, at least from what I've played. Outlast 2 is also great, probably second best. The two Metro games also look fantastic, the second game in particular. Hellblade, Observer, Wolfenstein, and Doom (both, though the first one looks better on Switch IMO), all look incredible too, but there's some obvious cutbacks to resolution. And of course there's the Crysis trilogy.

Good to see XC3 mentioned, however I though XC2 is equally as good particularly docked mode. I even find XC2 slightly more ambitious in ways though it seems to have some more frequent resolution dips, which is why I understand XC3 taking the edge.

The fact the matrix awakens demo can run on Switch means we could get PS5 visuals although at a much lower internal resolution but for handheld this will be amazing.

Switch 2 won't be much more powerful than current Switch. Like literally unnoticeable, like Gamecube to Wii. And no, there won't be any DLSS upscaling tech or anything like that and there's no way in hell it's running that Matrix demo.

@@N.i.E.M.O haha come off it. The CPU alone will be a huge jump. Memory bandwidth is gonna be 4x, CPU is gonna be 3x and this has more cores and higher frequency. GPU is going to be 4x in portable alone.
