I have seen some models of standard and ambassador cars. The problem was engine. Their engine deteriorated with time. On the other hand engine of maruti800 and Omni was far smoother than those bus type cars. But old is gold.

In my opinion ambassador was a legacy brand, it's a strength of survival throughout the year because of the protectionary environments created by government under the socialist economic framework. This environment was required simply because of this fact that back then the purchasing power of the consumer was low as well as education want prevalent generally the India was very very poor country. However towards the 80's and 90s situation dramatic changed Indians were more confident and financially equipped and certainly ready to embrace the globalization. As your result Indian could handled the on slot of foreign car maker's. Meanwhile pre 80s car makers of India were absolutely grown into the protectionary environment, simply did not invest in R&D throughout all those years, as a result they were absolutely dependent on foreign designs and technological capabilities. Needless to mention they faded into oblivion.
