I own 5 of them 1977 to 2006 models and there are total 8-10 Amby’s in my close circle. Even today I use them for most of the long drives. I was born and grew up with them anything and everything in my life can be related to these ambys as for some reason I am not able like the model cars.

I have a 88 model Mark 4 ,KDE 5555. We had a big flood in 2018 in Kerala. My Bigbro (Ambi) got stacked under water for few days. After that me and my friend fixed the car by our own hands. After that the epic journey of my life flagged-off by my father in 05/11/2018 . 13500Km , 78 days , 16 states, 2 countries, me and Nikhil , THE GREAT INDIAN YATHRA. At that time we thought we are the only crazy people in India who loves Ambi like more than just a car . But now when I watching this video it really making me a smile and a push towards up from my up damone. Ambi ❤️

Just awesome! I am 48 years old and have childhood memories of Ambi, Mahindra Jeep and Premier. Once we were in an accident with an Ambi: it flew off the road and landed straight in a roadside waterbody: we were unharmed, not a scratch! The tilted driving posture and the quarter glass ac brings more nostalgia. We owned a Mk4 during 1981-82, black coloured.

Sirish, I'm sorry to say this to you, you could have done a better version other than this way. Ambassador was the one and only thing we had, and it stays in our hearts, don't want to get hurt the way you said. It was whatever bad it was, it was an emotion no one can forget, like the Home made Rock grinded chutney. It needs a lot more respect than it got.

Yess!! It was our first car, bought second hand, it was Mark 4 model. So many fond memories of journeys, very frequent breaks downs, multiple visits to garage before long trips and yes how it saved all 4 members of my family through a major accident (thanks to its solid build) But after accident dad completely rebuilt it, everything was new, right from chassis to body to interiors. That was fabulously done interior with velvet draped everywhere and cassette player dropping from the hood at press of a button. Thanks evo for resurrecting those childhood memories 😍😍😍

Learnt how to work on cars with it, it broke down so often 😂 but I also became mechanically competent so got to be thankful to the old lady. Now got a crazy urge to resto-mod an Amby... maybe a rally-raid spec Amby with long-travel suspension, big motor, lots of sideways action 🤔

My dad swapped in a Matador engine to fit an AC unit in 1992. The standard engine can't take it. But after the mod, it was fast and new upsized radial tyres, new spring seats made it luxurious back then. All all these mods were legal. Now, engine swapping is just a dream. The ride was good in Ambassador.

I own a 2007 izuzu grand. Some of my friends and relatives always ask like why are u keeping this. Just sell it to someone and buy a modern car. I have driven many brands and ambi specs never reach when compare with those but the driving feel is very different and when I park it over somewhere like a gas station, some people come and appreciate to keep this legendary thing. I have been driving my ambi for many years but still I get a smile when I see it through my window when I wake up.☺️☺️

This is a delightful video indeed. I enjoyed till the end. My grandpa had his mark 1 all original from 1962 till 1996 and still wanted to have it with other cars he had. In 96 it was made a lot modern with Toyota 2c diesel, bucket seats, air conditioning and a completely new interior with maintaining the original exterior and the result was priceless. Sadly my father didn't count on it's memories and the bond we had with it and sold it without consent of family members in 2003.

We had an ambassador which was passed on by my grandfather to my Uncle and father. As a kid, I struggled to even open the door one hand. It was quiet crude, just like my Mother's Fiat Padmini. It was loud, heavy and quiet spacious (possibly because I was puny). The Ambassador happens to be the first car I started and slotted to the first gear as a 3 year old without adult supervision and moved a couple of meters before my uncle intervened and reprimanded me for my antics. Some sweet memories of our first car which was an Ambassador mark 4 petrol with steering mounted gear(1991 to 1996).It was 1984 made, which we bought for around Rs.48000I learnt driving on another ambassador later, that also had a steering mounted gear.Very comfortable, but too cumbersome to maintain.

Nostalgic👌I remember my grand father's mark III Ambassador where I first learn driving sitting in his lap. Your video gave me a flash back of found memories. One point I want to add , distributor stop working during rainy days. Old days mechanics use to come at your home to repair cars, they usually come without a helpers now you have to assist him, this way I learned how to repair gear box, clash disc, steering column, differential box, curbourator brake drums. Thanks Amby👍 you thought me a lot. Still I want keep one but Govt norm's don't allow to do so.

37bhp on a pickup! What were they thinking. No wonder nobody bought it 😂 I am from Calcutta and have never seen one in 25 years! Anyway, the Amby is an icon none the less. The OG car with the longest production run ever! 😎 I'd honestly love to see it return in a new avatar 😌 One of my uncles had a green Amby, and even though we had 3 800s in our family back then, all of my uncles and even my father came home in the fully decked up Amby after marriage, maybe because it had sofas for seats and even after accommodating 7 people inside had space for the gifts received. One trip for everyone and everything. 😂

The best car for the Indian family. Extremely comfy, supremely capacious and a simple mechanical vehicle with near zero electronics. My Dad had a 1973 Mark 2 for 25 years. Countless trips down in the plains and up in the hills. That car was literally the personification of India in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

A nice trip down the memory lane for sure. With this sort of content, this channel is gonna blow up. On a sidenote, noticed that you often drive around the Eon SEZ area in your videos -- used to be by regular commute till covid struck. And during pre covid rush hour -- that place was horrible!

I still remember ambassador mark 4 in 90s. My uncle used to get the car to Bangalore to pick us up for summer holidays. We used to pack the car with 6-8 people. And a 200km drive used to take 6-7 hrs .. with breaks in between because the roads were horrible and suspension of ambassador was horrendous. Still cherish those car rides

Few days back someone had seen you are driving this pickup without the number plate. Next week in the news: spotted hindustan ambassador pickup test driving, a sign of Hindustan motors coming back fitted with a bs6 110bhp 4 cylinder engine.

My father was with the irrigation department Uttarakhand. After years of travelling in old Mahindra Jeeps which included the right hand drive ones and some which required hand cranking and some new ones like Commander, Bolero etc, when he was about to retire, he finally got an Ambassador and I have to admit, it really had the most comfortable back seat of all the sarkari vehicles he had ever got :D Loved this feature of Evo India. Please do one on Fiat Premier Padmini :)

This is very nostalgic. I was 15 when I learnt to drive and it was on an Ambassador. It was 1975. I remember racing with the famous actor Raj Kumar on the worli seaface. He was in a Jeep . Like you say the car was fast and I was very young. It was with us until I finished my engineering in 1984. I had done a lot of driving in it. In fact I had modified it slightly. A red strap with a triangular shape running along both the sides , was an identification mark. It was the only car in Bombay then. Few others copied the design later. The car was very strong with a heavy metal body. There was however a problem in driving fast. The tyres were not designed for it. I remember going for a spin twice on sudden braking. Another problem was its axle. It was prone to breaking. Despite all that I loved it. The number was MRC 9161. Wonder if it's still on road somewhere or sold as junk.

I remeber going in a brand new Ambassador cabs when I was in India in 1998. I couldnt believe that there were brand new 40 year old Morris Oxfords still being built. Even though it was brand new, it smelt like a 40 year old car inside. The cabbie told me that he had removed the tail light and brake light globes to save fuel...... and it was in Calcutta!

My Scottish grandfather's first car was a Morris Oxford Series II, like the HM Landmaster. He always mentioned that his first car and its derivatives were still in production in India. He then got a Farina Oxford Series IV, followed by a Morris Marina MK1. The Series IV and the Marina had 1.8 engines and towed the caravan on European continental holidays. His last car was a 1982 Nissan Cherry.

Would certainly want the Amby to come back as a compact, sub 4m car as well as a larger 4.7m long sedan, with soft contours and a grill that resembles that of the latest Honda HRV. Thank you for an interesting episode on the Ambassador.
