This TV is what i call a next generation TV. Against my A90J, the S95B is just miles better in HDR. The ABL is almost non-existent in comparisation to my A90J and the colors are incredible. When the 77" releases next year, this will be an instant buy. My Settings for HDR PS5 / XSX: Brightness 50 Contrast 48 Sharpness 0 Color 36 Color Space at AUTO Contrast Enhancer OFF Gamma -2 Shadow detail +2 Peak Brightness High Also VERY important. In game mode settings go to HDR tone mapping. Set this to Advanced and enable Game HDR. This will make all the games look much better.

When watching Disney+ or Netflix (both use Dolby vision), do you feel you’re missing out because S95b doesn’t support Dolby vision?
@hattorihanzo1329
@hattorihanzo1329 2 жыл бұрын
@@triglab9685 The HDR of the S95B is phenomenal, especially with PS5 and XSX it just looks better, but i have to give the edge to the A90J when it comes to movies with DV in netflix and disney+. When you watch movies in DV there is more pop and the picture is more balanced. Dolby Vision for movies is just a step up from HDR in movies. So the S95B is mostly being used for gaming. I watch movies on the A90J.

Thank you for sharing your fantastic review on the Samsung S95B. Decided to wait, finally upgrade my old 2004 Toshiba Regza (120Hz refresh rate) LCD "42. It was the best LCD back when LCD TVs were coming of age. Abet, very still heavy ( 66.2 lbs. with stand). Finally ordered the "55 Samsung S95B. It had the best "overall" OLED TV rating in state of the art quality & performance, after searching extensively on the internet for best rated OLED TVs in 2022. Looking forward to this fine upgrade. I suffered through issues with a 65" Samsung Q9 that Samsung thankfully issued a refund only to have even worse issues with a 65" Q90 (DSE, and color). After 5 months of dealing with the extended warranty company (CPS) who passed the issue on to Samsung, I was lucky to have Samsung once again refund me for the purchase. After reviews such as your's Caleb, along with KG's comparison to the C2 and Stop the FOMO, I decided to give Samsung one more try and bought the S95B from Costco (which through in additional warranty coverage adding up to 5 years) and just WOW! The S95 65" picture is fantastic. Highly recommend this TV to anyone, and buy from Costco if you have a membership to get the extended warranty for the same price as most retail outlets sell it for. I need to get a new Blu-Ray player to enjoy 4K, but everything we have streamed has been such a joy to watch now.

I am feeling the same way. My Samsung QLED TV panel is starting to go out. This is my third Samsung TV to fail in under five years. A 32", a 55" both just standard LED"S quit working and now my 65" QLED that's just outside the extended warranty the TV isn't even four years old and they would not do anything for me. I'm sorry but when I pay $1500.00 for a new TV I think a company should stand behind there product. The worst part of the experience was Samsung's customer service. I was told that sense I was a loyal customer they would offer me a deal better than I could get at any store to replace my TV. What a joke that was. I was offered the top QLED TV and a 5 year warranty at a great discount, but it wasn't. I could get the same TV from Best Buy cheaper and the warranty was even $100.00 less. Amazon, Crutchfield all had the TV at a lower price. So my TV is failing and I am already in a bad mood because of it and then Samsung Customer Service tries to rip me off on selling me a Over Priced TV and lying to me about what a great deal it is. So Samsung is dead to me and I started looking at LG's C2 and G2. Now I'm torn. Do I give Samsung another try?

@@DonGlassjr what did you end up going with? I'm kind of in the same predicament. I bought a Samsung 2 years ago, as well as have a Samsung phone. I really thought highly of the brand and then my TV died just a couple weeks ago, it was stuck in a boot loop. Thankfully I still had another month of geek squad. So now I'm wondering if I try Samsung again for this new technology, or go with the C2 or G2 and have a little more peace of mind with LG.

I purchased the 2022 Samsung 55 inch S95B OLED television in April 2022 from Best Buy. I love this television and the picture quality is fantastic. I upgraded my Verizon Fios cable boxes to the Fios TV One 4K boxes and the latest Verizon Fios WiFi 6 Router. I don't play games on this television. It is used strictly for watching my television shows and movies. Many of the movies and series on Amazon Prime are now in 4K and the same for some movies on HBO-Max, Starz, and Epix. This television went on sale 2 weeks ago at Best Buy and Samsung regarding $200 off the original price of $2,199. I contacted Best Buy to see if I could get the $200 sale credit last Saturday and they said yes. The price on the 55 inch S95B Samsung went back to it's original price Monday, June 6, 2022. I love this television and it was a great pre-birthday present to myself.

I have a hard time not noticing the lack of shadow detail in some movies and shows on C1. Would I be wrong to think that the tech behind the qd oled would be much better at shadows? Is it noticeably better without putting the 2 types of TV tech side by side?

Watching cable (SDR) is great with excellent upscaling. The issue with all TV's is low bitrate streaming content (as in low internet speed/bandwidth). Mini LED is a step up for LCD tech, but it is nowhere near OLED, especially not QD-OLED. Mini LED has horrible blooming in many scenes too. Mini LED fares really bad in gaming because backlight can't be controlled well enough while keeping input lag low. This means you will get far worse image quality in gaming compared to movies with full processing on (and 200ms input lag).

Samsung is heavily discounting this tv. Why? 1) It's a beta version in a sense, small production run, there are some reported issues with build quality, and barely any marketing, like their first attempts at folding phones. 2) Dolby vision missing. I don't care about hdr or dv personally, outside of games it'S a curse, but a lot of people do. 3) Itis 1st gen, imagine you had paid 5K for a 1st gen oled, with all the issues. We don't know what the long term issues are yet. 4) handling/cleanup of 1080 or 720 content is subpar. This is a big deal for a lot of people. I have a tcl mini led, it's terrible at upscaling lower quality content compared to sony or lg, the processing isn't nearly as good. if i could pick up a 55 s95 for less than an lg c1, i would give it a try, probably with an extended warranty.

Motion performance... I've looked at it for about an hour in a shop, and IMHO 24p BFI is the way to go. At 60p the flickering is god awful, however at 24p it is much closer to the way my plasma looks. It does flicker a bit more, but I think I could be ok with it. The loss in light is fine too, IMHO. Actually, when looking at the TV with filmmaker mode and BFI activated (and 24p content... that's the crucial part), with sharpening etc. reduced to zero, then the TV looked A LOT like my VT30 plasma. Just with deeper blacks. More intense colors. And brighter. (And a little bit more flickering.) So that is a HUGE win. I think the reasons are: The screen reflects a tiny bit of light in a lit environment, just like a good plasma does. The reflections are well kept under control, like a high end plasma behaves. The reflections are flat and not wavy, which on LGs really irritate me. The colors don't have an ugly green tint, but just look... real. Just like a plasma. And the image flickers a bit, just like a plasma. It gives me just the right vibes, while LGs OLEDs look artificial to me. They look like LCDs, just perfected. The Samsung looks like plasma to me, just perfected.

Something that should be mentioned is the blacks on this TV apparently look grey (compared to WRGB) if used in a lit environment, due to the lack of a polarizer. In another video it was mentioned that some shop kept their display S95B unit away from WRGB OLED TVs for this reason. I feel like I have to say this on every review.. You can save your inputs to the home screen to be listed along side the apps. The settings can be had by hitting the gear/numbers/colors button on the remote. The first time you hit it you'll see the numbers. Push up and there's your quick settings to the right or click enter to go to the main settings. The next time you click that button you'll be right there at the settings again. This TV is fantastic and I can't wait for them to make bigger sizes.

I'd love to see a series on older (even HD instead of 4K) models that may be hidden gems on the used market. Another thing that would interest me is a video about how to set an older TV to look more like HDR. My main TV is still 1080p, and my secondary TV is 720p. It's not just about saving money. It's about extending the useful life of your TV to keep it out of the trash.

We only buy new TV's for our main living room. Then we take that old tv and move it to the bedroom. Then we take that old tv and move it to the spare room. That tv gets given to the niece or nephew for their room. I agree about extending the life of TV's so we spend the money where it makes sense and keep extending the life of others.

Regarding the HDR Tone Mapping issue with gaming, I saw on another video that showed that hidden deep in the settings that there is a setting under "Game Mode Settings > HDR Tone Mapping > Game HDR" which supposedly enables HGIG. No idea why Samsung buried it in the menus like that, but it appears that they did. Do you know if the issue still exists if you enable that setting?

If you're going to be buying another OLED for Dolby Vision its a bad choice. This TV in HDR trumps any other OLED with DV by a long way (other than A95K). Problem is Samsung has so many issues that its 50/50 whether the TV will work or not. Then another 50/50 if the firmware update will cause even more issues. Tragic for such an amazing picture

Dolby Vision is overrated. And I say this as a LG OLED owner. S95B will look better and more vivid in HDR10 mode, compared to G2 in Dolby Vision mode. Seen both side by side in SDR and HDR content + gaming. S95B wins hands down. G2 is still great but LG needs to lower prices on RGB OLED because QD-OLED is simply just better.

Great review as always - is anyone at Digital Trends going to talk about swapping the KEF Q750/Q950s for Polk R700s for the surround sound? How do the new speakers sound compared to the old?
@techsamurai11
@techsamurai11 2 жыл бұрын
I noticed the same but they are not R700s - the R700s are behemoths. These are the R600s which have dual turbine cones and are a strange and unorthodox design. I don't believe I've seen a tower speaker with 2 midrange/bass woofers - it's quite possible one is dedicated to midrange and the other to bass but I figured if that were the case they'd have used a bass woofer from the R700. I'd love for Polk's sound engineers to come here and explain the differences and philosophy between the R600 and R700.

@@techsamurai11 Good call my man. I've seen several reviews of the R700s and didn't even know there was a smaller tower. I've never been a Polk fan but this line has gotten universally amazing reviews so I'm curious what Digital Trends thinks.

@@pcfreakx Yeah, the 700s, 200s and 100s have received amazing reviews but there's only one review of the 600. The 700s are imposing speakers in terms of size - I suspect most folks would opt for the 600s more reasonable size but I do wonder how different the 700s sound compared to the 600. Pricewise, the 700 is probably the better value. The 700 shares a lot in common in terms of specs with my B&W 703s - Andrew Robinson recently reviewed the R700 and back in 2009 had reviewed by B&W 703s for Home Theater Review. I almost wonder if Polk used the 703 as a benchmark.
