Hey everyone! Thanks for all the great comments and feedback! As usual, not everything can make the cut, but as you probably saw, this was an extremely clean panel and it handled low luminance and low but-depth content really well. No TV is perfect (yet) and all involve a trade-off here or there, but no question: The LG G2 is a top performer in 2022. Now, on to the A95K and some comparisons!

I basically went through this same process of waffling on QD-OLED vs W-OLED. I ended up getting an LG G2 77" OLED, and I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. My main considerations were 1) new tech vs. established tech, and 2) available screen size. I was worried that there may be some issues with the new tech over the next few years, whereas LG has had a decade to perfect their OLED TV game. Even *after* my purchase, I was having some worries that I made the wrong choice, because QD-OLED did seem to *mostly* be living up to the hype. Ultimately though, I wanted a larger TV for the space I was putting it in, the LG G2 was *also* seeming to live up to the hype, and after having my G2 for a month, I'm so happy with it. It's just an incredible viewing experience, and as indicated in this review - it made movies/shows I've seen multiple times just a richer experience worth revisiting. Finally, my commentary on any brightness issues (without having any experience with QD-OLED other than on store displays) is that my TV is not only bright enough in brighter ambient settings, but it's honestly almost too bright in darker ambient settings. I find myself needing to tune my brightness down for certain content honestly. For my own viewing pleasure/experience, there's isn't a scenario where I would ever have the consideration "Do I need this to be brighter?" Take that for what it's worth. Bottom line, I have zero regrets now, and would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a super premium home viewing TV experience. Thanks for all the great reviews/info!

Agree with the ambient light brightness. I have a room with 2 windows and sun directly hitting in the room most of the day. I was worried about the brightness, but this LG G2 is plenty bright in such setting, I simply wouldn’t want or need something brighter than this, the image is just bright and clear. At night the brightness is almost too much indeed. People shouldn’t hesitate to go for this TV it has great advantages (the mat panel was a big turn off for me from the QD OLED) and looks really nice with the gallery design. Only minor is that I’ve been disappointed with the Gallery app on the TV. Sad to see that the content available is quite limited and that there’s no actual fake frame on the photos that display.

Brightness wars are getting ridiculous. I have a C8 OLED TV, Nano cell 55" for PC and latest 2022 Aero OLED laptop and they all need brightness dialed down to about 50% so my eyes aren't burned out.

I fully agree. I had first bought the S95B because of the hype and the expectations of this TV had been made true. The S95B is really impressive on almost all fronts and was a replacement for my TV in the gaming room. Then the G2 came out and i was really waiting for an oled TV to hit the 1000 nits mark in HDR with a more relaxing abl then the C2/A80K and at least on par or close with the S95B's abl, to replace my TV in the living room. Second requirement is that it has to be 77 inch. I ordered the 77G2 and thought, if it is really less then the S95B, then i will simply return it and wait another year for the 77 QD-oled. I have spend a lot of time doing side-by-side with the two and overall the G2 got my preference. The G2 is the best 77 inch oled TV you can buy this year and compared to the S95B (there are a lot of fanboys, don't understand why) the difference between both is negligible. I also like that LG oleds in general have a lot of customization options.

For those possibly debating between C2 or G2, I have the C2 77 inch upgrading from a C9 55 inch. While I can't comment on the G2 specifically, I can tell you that the processor in C2/G2 is significantly better than in the C9. The picture in movies and tv show is a lot better! Motion with everything turn off is A LOT better. Picture is a lot clearer and pure. As for brightness, C2 is brighter but what I really enjoy is that the brightness is more control, you actually can turn on DTM and see that the tv is just not getting super over exposed across the board. Its not crazy more brighter but the better control makes for better contrast and better experience. Finally, gaming wise, the C2 is perfect in all way. I actually enjoy very much the dolby vision gaming at 120hz on Series X, no need to play with settings you just enjoy a nice picture and low input lag. All I just said is applicable to the G2 except the brightness which is higher but that would be the only difference and not really a big one in my opinion cause if you have a very lit room you should not get an OLED tv in the first place... so its a non issue really.

My best friend just bought the LG G1. All C1 and G1 are on sale. He's leaving his Panasonic Plasma behind. Stop listening to the brightness. OLED is bright. And LED LCD is too bright especially if it's 1000+. Brighter is better. HDR looks better with more nits. But, you will turn down the brightness. If you have a TV 5yrs old or more? The C1 or G1 will be perfect. If you're a plasma owner? OLED is your tech. Try to grab an LG C1/G1. Nothing beats the motion handling of plasma. But, looking at solid 4k HDR/DV is amazing. You can also turn on motion interpolation just one notch and things should be smooth for your plasma eyes. LG C2/G2 are wonderful TV as well. But, for the price point. The LG C1/G1 is more amazing.

Great review! I just finally got my 83" G2 installed over the weekend. Still scratching the surface but coming from a 77" C8, the impressions are great. I can see the additional detail from the processor for cable and HD content, I can see the increased brightness in both SDR and HDR highlights, and the gaming features are amazing!. QD-OLED wasn't an option since I wanted a larger screen size but i would venture to bet that in the vast majority of content available today, the difference between a G2 and an QD-OLED would be slight at best. Overall, G2 is an awesome TV.

Great review, thanks! I use a 2020 48” C series OLED in my office as my everything display connected to my desktop PC (productivity, PC gaming, and movie watching) one of my biggest reasons for choosing LG is the speed with which it switches between inputs, resolutions, and HDR modes. Can you start measuring these latencies in your reviews, it would be extremely helpful to those of us who use TVs for more than just watching movies. Thanks!

Second this, things like time from cold boot to seeing an image, time between switching inputs whether it be through manual selection or CEC are crucial QoL tidbits. My LG C1 48 is a great TV for this, a large step up from my Vizio V505-J09.

This wasn't mentioned in the review, but the reason the G2 can get much brighter than the C2 in HDR scenes is because of the heatsink. Prior G series models never had a heatsink. I think compared to the C2 or any other of their older models, it is worth the upgrade to the G2.

A friend of mine just had a 77" delivered last Saturday. Didn't realize the stand was an additional expense and had to wait for that order. We put it all together, fired it up and a vertical white line down the center of the screen. No amount of pixel cleaning or firmware updating fixed it. So after a couple of hours of it being out of the box and failed troubleshooting, we put it back in the box so he could return it. Very disappointing. Defective right out of the gate. @@HanzeHenrik Color rendition, near black handling, panel uniformity, peak highlights... All is significantly better on the G2 compared to the B6. Between each year the differences are incremental, but now after 6 years it's definitely worth it. This may vary from person to person as my girlfriend probably won't see a ton of differences when asked for it. The leap in size going from 65" to 77" also helps with the experience. All I can say, this is what I wanted 6 years ago when 77" OLED panels were still $ 15.000,-. I'm a happy camper and the next step will be 88" or even 97" OLED. Yeah!!

I have bought the 77G2 a couple of weeks. I also have the S95B and the X950H. The HDR on the G2 is unmatched and it was exactly the hdr brightness i was looking for. Not much of a difference from the S95B. The S95B does look a bit more vivid in bright HDR games and keeps it colors in check. The G2 gets a little diluted in the yellow colors in bright scenes. Because of Dolby Vision i prefer the G2, but to be honest the Sony X950H gives a bit more of that cinematic feeling. I still think the motion of Sony tv's is the best there is and colors on this tv are even more present than the G2

The QD OLED on S95B (firsthand knowledge) and Sony A95K (from reviewers on this platform) look amazing. After 3 years of normal TV use, my high end LG Oled 65E7P has burn in and color shading all over. To make things worse LG has refused to repair it since it’s out of warranty. They claim 40,000 hours of life, but I have less than a 1/4 of that. Very disappointed with LG Oled quality and LG customer service, think twice before dropping your hard earned money on an LG Oled.

It has a good amount of hours it's been uses but there are no scratches or dings or anything, I feel like I got lucky and I'm guessing it was the display unit at the store? Either way I really like it but now there is a 77inch G2 in good condition for 1800 bucks. @@NexGenTek the ABL on S95B was the tip of the iceberg though to be honest. UHD Sky Sports had significantly more picture noise than my 2017 OLED, motion tracking was absurdly poor with the same feed and the stutter on panoramic shots without motion smooth in on was just vomit inducing. With it on more picture noise was experienced. Feed the S95B 4/8k HDR YT and it is sublime. Anything else it just becomes less appealing to watch. From my experience, the set also needs constant fine adjustment from content to content with intelligent mode on/off - motion handling adjustment and other basics needing toggling. I honestly wanted it to amaze me, especially when the price point is not cheap for the set.

@@Pedders529 intelligent mode should've been off not sure what 2017 OLED you had but that definitely seems wrong they didn't even have processing chips then. So it was either severely crushing everything so you couldn't see or I'm calling bull. The motion has been amazing. I use KZbin TV everything is basically 1080p60 and it's pristine and smooths out jaggies better than the A95K. Unfortunately I think you didn't really know what you were doing with the settings maybe the G2 will be easier for you. If you're looking for that wow factor I wouldn't hold my breath. Hey the G2 has ASBL as well, the heatsink does make it less aggressive than other TV’s, but it can also be disabled in the service menu. The G2 does come with a 5 year warranty, so it’s not as big of a concern to turn it off, you do run the risk of them denying your warranty claim if something does happen, but you can always go back into the menu and turn it back on so you can bail out at anytime and so they don’t find out. The two settings are ASBL and GSR that you want to change, there’s lots of videos on how to do it.

I am in constant awe at the beauty of images on this screen The only thing I dont like is the remote but thats a small price to pay for an incredible picture , it's not backlit and the volume button is too close to something else and I don't like the rewind functions but you soon get used to it LG could improve the remote significantly

To all you 'the S95B is absolutly the best. They crush....'. You're dumb. Hear me out. First of all, if you go that way, the A95K is the best and you can't deny it. But being realistic with a comparison between the S95B and the G2, the S95B isn't better and neither is the G2. The S95B will probably have more people enthousiast about it, but in some ways the G2 is better and in other ways the S95B. So there is no best. There is only one better for your use and preferences. The easy things first. Dolby Vision is a win for th G2. On paper it is just better, more future proof and more provided then HDR10+ Tizen and the menu of the Samsung sucks. Both are just not as good what LG brings to the table. You can say you don't have problems with it, but then you probably didn't touch a LG. The build-quality is also a easy win for the G2. You should go to a store and feel both. Big difference and if you have small kids and a S95B, you likely end up with a slight bend in it. Design is almost relative. There's no denying a thin border is prettier as a thicker one. So when front facing, the G2 has the win. I also love the flat back of the G2 compared to the buldge of the S95B, so sideways, for me personal, also a win for the G2. I like a wallmount. So in this department, design clearly is a win for the G2 for me. However....if you don't want to mount it, the S95B has the up and the seperate stand of the G2 sucks, so I can understand that people prefer the design of the S95B and make this a win. Then the harder parts. The S95B excels the G2, but not in every way and for some in no way. If you like brightness and vivid colours, the S95B is the way to go, but the demo's you see, are optimized for show. In real life use, it is toned down a bit. But those vivid colours are not for everyone. Sometimes they look oversaturated or unnatural, even for the colour-fanatics and some people just like more natural colours or are interested in the creators intend. The S95B is not for them. Also, but I can't confirm this, somewhere on the net came up that 480P, 720P youtube and other web material is also worse on the S95B then on the G2. The S95B brings more brigtness in colours. True, but....the G2 brings more brightness in white highlights. The colour brightness is a win for me over the bright white highlights of the G2. However, I believe those highlights help the G2 with shadow detail, which you can see in this vid when the spoon-thingy is pulled out of the honey in the demo. The mid of the spoon has detail. I believe this got a bit brightend by the highlight above it. Watch the same scene on Caleb's review of the S95B. Yes the yellow is more saturated and the glassy shine may even be a bit better, but the mids of the spoon is just dark without detail. The G2 has better blacks to my opinion. Not the on/of blacks and also not the nearest to black shadow detail. Instead the shade or out of light or 'coloured' blacks (like a black suit). The nearest to black shadow detail of the LG is a bit to bright. This is in fact a loss, but in real life use, this helps me see the details of the black suit someone is wearing in the dark. There are vids about it, but I don't know how reliable this is. Maybe the cam making those vids capture it different, Maybe it's my tv that shows it wrong. Who knows. But when not standing side by side, both tv's do really good. All these differences between these tv's (some only noticable when besides eachother), the fact that both tv's do almost everything in a different way, results in that one scene is nicer for the eye on the S95B and the other on the G2. You really should open Caleb's vid about the S95B next to this one, pauze at the same moments of the demo's and compare. I myself prefered the savanah scene with the lion, lake and background on the S95B as it was more pleasing to the eye. But the wood scenes were way better on the G2 to my opnion. More depth and less washed out. And to debate the colours and tonemapping and such, from the S95B. Mainstream tv is not created with colour perfection in mind and neither are 90% of the movies. No perfect colours or tonemapping and what not. They are created with HDR impact in mind and that hits the G2 in just the right spot. There is no better one. The win's go back and forth (if your not a fanboy). The only real best one is the A95K and are you willing to pay that much extra for an improvement with almost no justifyable material for it (not my own words). But, in the end most people don't care about tech, don't think about creators intent or true to life colours or whatever and just like what pleases there eyes the most and Samsung does this good with it's dazzeling 'pop' when you first look at it. Who cares about fake brightness and over saturated colours when you're overwhelmed by the mind blowing demo's they show you. At least for the first month, before you start toning it down a bit.

The one thing that I would wish that they would have done with this latest model, was to spend a little more 'design' time on the remote so it paired better with this outstanding design of their tv.

I've also played some games on it with my PC and unless I leave a static game image on the screen I've never notice the ABL kick in. However when watching Terminal list which toward the latter half of the series has a lot of sustained darker scenes. I noticed the ABL kick in during dark scenes very frequently, now it doesn't dim it near as dark as my old C9, but it is noticeable. I've watched movies with sustained darker scenes in Dolby vision like Malignant, Stranger Things and Kenobi and never noticed the ABL kick in during those sustained darker scenes. Maybe it was just me, but next time I watch some Dolby Vision content I'll pay more attention.

From top to bottom a beautiful tv from LG and that's no surprise because in my view, and my view alone, they are still the King's of OLED. And even though I have not bought into the QD-OLED hype you can bet LG will answer in 2023 with their own QD-OLED and satisfy those who want that oversaturated look that people seem to love these days. They already use QD's in their QNED LED tv's so QD's in their OLED's will be a no brainer. I think what LG did this year was sit back and see how thing's panned out with Samsung and Sony's QD-OLED's. That being said. Save for the stand the G2 is a winner from top to bottom.

About the stand mount option . Why did they make leaning back???...I really don't get that & I certainly don't like it. If wall mounted & up high, then you might want to angle it down a bit, but this? Nope.

I saw that the G2 have a greenish tint, is it something we can "fix" by putting warmer colors in the settings ??

Recently, I pulled the trigger on purchasing a 77” LG G1 for half the price of it successor. I’m stoked, but quite certain the higher nits make for an even more visually stunning display. How I know, is because I see the world of a difference in the iPhone 13 versus my iPhone 12 Pro.

I’ve had the 77 G2 and now the 83G2 but I have to says they 77 is brighter and has better picture than the 83G2.

Absolutely I wanted the 83 in but after researching saw where the power supple in 83 is not as strong as the 77. This thing blows me away with its brightness!

@@zacdavis7 If you have any links to more discussion about this? I'll buy the 77 inch instead if it is really that big of a difference. A google search didn't wield any good results on the brightness/picture difference between 77 and 83 inch

How does it deal with passthrough? Can I connect my both Apple TV and my soundbar to the G2, and get Dolby Atmos passthrough the soundbar?

I have no issues with it I got HTA 7000 Soundbar and Google Chromecast TV and still get the Dolby Atmos pass through hope that helps

@Caleb_Denison 2 жыл бұрын
So, the answer is that the G2 does support Atmos pass through. Whether it will work well comes down to more factors than I can account or test for. I’d like to say it should work well for you, but it comes down to how well CEC and ARC/eARC work with your gear and how you set it up.

Bought the 77G2 from lg as soon as it was available in April. Replaced a 75Nano99 from last year, never was happy with it. Could not be happier with the G2. Had a free shipping to room of choice and free installation. Installed it with some help with my son the day it arrived, could not wait for the install guys. I have been watching No Time To Die 4K over and over and just say Wow ( Filmmaker Mode). I cannot believe this picture looks so good.
