Can't speak to soundbars specifically but there are numerous receivers that have multiple HDMI 2.1 inputs. They have various price tags, compatibilities/features, and port quantities for each of course. And probably generally higher cost than a sound bar when you factor in speakers to go with it it. Though a decent setup can be had for cheaper than you might think. Especially if you're willing to get the speakers second hand. Just space is the only concern that doesn't have an easy answer for many who would consider a soundbar in the first place.

About the Atmos, if you're using a soundbar Atmos might not show up on your TV because the TV's speakers are off. IE when I'm watching something with DV and Atmos only DV pops up on my screen but there's a green light on my soundbar that stays on for a second or two to show Atmos is on. Really love this content! I’d love hear your thoughts on expanding surround sound in a room. Me and my wife recently moved into our new home. After months of research and your glowing reviews. I purchased a 65inch lg g2, I paired it with lg’s gallery gx sound bar. We love the flat against the wall look of the sound bar but I feel it lacks a little bit on surround feeling. What would put with this sound bar to upgrade the surround sound? Floor standing speakers? Wall mounted? Our room is roughly 12 x 12 foot. Thanks

I am very confused about the sound bar having 2.1 and not having 2.1, especially when it comes to gaming, for example, I have a LG G4, I also have a Vizio Elevate Soundbar (Does not have 2.1) The sound bar is connected into the TV eARC port, my PS5 is connected into my HDMI 1 port into the TV. I am looking to purchase the Samsung Q990D bc it has 2.1 HDMI. And I want the best sound for gaming. My question is, in order to be able to use 2.1 in the Samsung sound bar can I still connect the eARC from the sound bar to the tv and the ps5 into the hdmi 1 port and still get the benefit of the 2.1 that the Samsung Q990D sound bar offers now for gaming? Or do I have to connect my ps5 and soundbar differently to have 2.1 running for the soundbar and ps5 this to work? My head is spinning lol

The only way to get Atmos on Disney+ through this TV is to use an external streaming device. I recently got an Apple TV 4K (2022), and it literally fixed... everything. Picture is better, sound is better, streaming is so much more responsive. Long story short, get a very high quality external streaming device (cough Apple TV 4K cough). It fixes everything. No No... The problem is the existing cable. I have existing ten year old 2.0 cables that run from a cabinet on one wall, down that wall and into the crawl space and up the opposite wall for a distance in excess of 30 feet. I think that cable just fit at 5o feet with the extra distance to the router, and on the other side, to the TV. Replacing that cable is possible, but a major pain. The problem also is finding a 2.1 cable that runs 50 feet. If I upgrade the TV to a new Sony Bravia 8 along with a Sony 3000 soundbar; will the 18 gbps be enough? Another question, how much gbps can a modem/router push through any HDMI cable? Plus, , where do I get a 50 ft HDMI 2.1 cable. Or, would two HDMI 2.0 cables effectively run 36 gbps? Thanks...

TL,DR,: why high end TVs still do not support sending loseless HD Audio to soundbars via eArc? my biggest "beef" with my C9 OLED (I havnt heard about a change in this) is that It will not send Atmos HD Loseless audio down to my sound bar. my setup is very simple: a NAS holding some UHD BD REMUXES (with loseless HD ATMOS). my C9 is connected automatically to my NAS via the local network and I have an ATMOS b&o stage soundbar (no upward firing speakers but it has built in ATMOS Loseless support). in order to enjoy HD audio I need to use an external streamer like shield and hook directly to the soundbar. i dont want another component. my TV is my player and the center of my media this seems to me like a very basic thing - why is it not supported? please address this question. I have had many sleepless nights over this. is this still the case? are there newer models that do support this? maybe its time Digital Trends put some pressure on TV manufacturers for this - its a big missing piece of the puzzle

Hey dude. Love your reviews. Quick question or two. I'm considering getting the TCL 85" QM8 TV and very concerned about the flimsy appearance of the stand so would you recommend either wall mounting or buying a heavy duty after market "universal" 85" capable replacement stand? And this is a two part question, 1) I've seen ( admittedly ) fairly small number of bad purchaser reviews on amazon for poor quality control for things including screen "ghosts/discolorations", so should I reconsider? and 2) Do you think prices will come down more below $2,200.0 ( hopefully under $2,000.00 ) by February 2024? Or are their any coupons or deals you would reccommend? My Sony Bravia 70" 1080p active 3D TV recently went screwy with the picture display then stopped outputting any image after it seemed to fix itself for a week or two after being unplugged for a day or so. Also what is the least expensive native 4K ultra hi def bluray player new on the market that performs well?

I think the answers to both questions are not quite correct! 1. I've S95C which supports Dolby Atmos, yet, with Tizen's Disney+ Hotstar app, I get Dolby Digital plus as sound codec. I tried streaming from Apple 4K 3rd gen device and Amazon 4k stick, same DD+ output. I think it has to do with the subscription type and geo region where the streaming service is availed. 2. I've tried plugging hdmi cable directly from bluray player to the TV's HDMI port vs plugging into Soundbar's HDMI port. There is indeed some degradation in picture with the latter. The PQ feels like upscaled with denoising in effect and with some artifacts than true 4k PQ!

Hide your task bar, use a dark desktop background, turn on the screen saver. Also wouldn't recommend QD OLED for a monitor due to the sub-pixel structure which makes text look weird.

@@mckirkus Thank you for the advice. although like I said I'm not concerned with burn in just worried that the TV will die after 2 years with that much usage. and as far as the sub pixel layout is concerned I don't think it will be an issue cause it will be mostly for viewing content or playing games. plus I heard Samsung said they found a way to improve text clarity.

That’s great in theory but I’m suspecting that’s not how the handshaking actually works in all cases. I say that because my XBox One X, when it handshakes direct with my new Bravia 9 tv, doesn’t think the TV can do 4K. So it won’t show that option. The tv is definitely a new 2024 4K set. The receiver plugged into the Tv however, does recognize it as doing 4k. And when I plug the X Box into the receiver , so it talks to the TV via the receiver, then the XBox One X says 4K is available. This tells me the capabilities exchange between the tv and Xbox and tv and receiver are resulting in different results. IE something is off in the “papers” exchanged in capabilities or how they are I interpreted. It gets clearer each time I need to hook something up that this 2024 HDMI 4K world has made things worse in terms of general predicable performance and capabilities , vs the 2006 era when we still have component and composite and early HDMI. To actually get the full capability working on a multi component system requires such digging and trying and researching and deep knowledge it’s no wonder the average person is unimpressed because as far as whey can tell what Atmos is is actually matrix decided LPCM in many cases.

As an audio engineer, I can say this..don’t waste your money. Atmos is NOT truly heard through a sound bar. It costs 5-10k a speaker to mix audio for atmos which can even require a minimum of 6-10 speakers to properly aligned and wired (depending on the film/music) . Trying to squeeze that much of spatial audio into a mono sound bar is a gimmick. Think of it like this , it’s like going to the movie theater expecting the action scenes to give you an experience of thrill. Only to realize there’s a small boombox system to listen to it . 🤷🏾♂️ In my opinion

Sure the person who asked the question should not have any problems with the lack of HDMI ports. But if we were to add a gaming console to the equation which do support and benefit from 4K120hz and we have a soundbar with, unfortunately too common, fake HDMI 2.1 passthrough then we have a problem. This is the bane of my existence with my Panasonic 55" JZ980 oled TV. I have a HTPC that I also game with, PS5 and an LG 5.1.2 atmos soundbar with the said faux HDMI 2.1 port that cannot pass through 120hz signal. And the TV has eARC hogging one of the two full bandwidth HDMI ports. If I want to make full use of my rig then I have to manually switch cables depending on if I want to use my HTPC or PS5. 🙈 I recently bought 50" TCL C805 to be strictly used as a computer monitor and to my surprise TCL did the smart thing and delegated one of the HDMI 2.0 ports for eARC, leaving both HDMI 2.1 ports free! God damnit, why was this so hard I have to ask you other TV manufacturers! 🤬 TCL, a bloody B-grade TV manufacturer, got it right when you big names with bug budgets did not! I am tempted to sell my Panasonic and get a bigger TCL C805 for TV use, but as impressive as micro leds are the OLED is still king and I do not want to give that up. 😭

That last question was super reassuring for me. I have a Samsung QN900A with an HWQ950A soundbar. So the tv has 4 hdmi 2.1 ports, but 3 of those ports are: ps5, series x, switch. Then obviously the 4th port is the soundbar. So when I decided I wanted a dedicated 4k player and picked up a Panasonic UB820, I had to route it through the soundbar. So really appreciated that confirmation that I'm not losing anything (other than qsymphony) by running it through the soundbar.

you need someone else's confirmation to be convinced you're not losing any video signal quality by getting your hdmi cable pass through your soundbar? why can't you see it for yourself?

@@Sas-wk9lj Never hurts to hear someone knowledgeable confirm it. (Shrug)

@@TennesseeMule you think 'someone knowledgeable' tested all soundbars (including your soundbar and TV model) to confirm that!? Does that someone know what kind/quality hdmi cable you're using? Or that your Panasonic bluray player's compatibility with your soundbar and TV? Try and trust your own eye to check for any difference in video quality between the direct and indirect configuration.
