The Atmos will be transported from the source such as bluray player, firestick, roku etc to the adapter then to Earc on the Atmos compatible soundbar the connect another HDMI to the TV from HDMI out on the soundbar. If you are using the TV built in apps such as Netflix etc

I can't get Dolby Atmos to work with the device. Don't own a Sonos Arc but a different Soundbar which is capable of Dolby Atmos and DTS X. But the Arcana only shows up Bitstream 48 khz. Do I need to turn on Sonos Beam ARC in the settings. Thanks. This is a great video and was very helpful.

I think this device is designed to work best with the Sonos Arc. Try turning on the Sonos Arc setting on! Otherwise you may need to contact HDFury support as only have a Sonos Arc so can’t test other settings myself! Sorry!

If you’re TV already has Dolby Vision you can leave it on default. It’s in the LLDV to HDR settings if you need to tweak anything.

I read somewhere that your third problem issue can be solved by plugging in the arcana into a usb of the tv or another device that u turn on when u watch tv and not plug it directly into another outlet. Basically power and signal sync .

@2:40 I’ve found if, when I’m done watching movies/tv, that if I put the Apple TV back to “tv speakers” before I shut it off for the night I never have issues with the arcana not being able to connect to the Apple TV.

You need to download the latest firmware from the HDFury website and put it on a USB. Then put the USB into the Arcana and there should be an update/firmware option on the Arcana menu.

Some sound bars, like Vizio have this feature built in and with more than one port. You are right you do not need a new TV (I did not want to loose my 3D) for ATMOS and Dolby Vision. Apple TV does both and more, you just need a device to “read” it. Some ATMOS sound bars will do it for you with a pass trough.

This device was primarily made for the apple 4K TV and Sonos ARC. The problem with the ATV4K is it converts all audio to PCM. It doesn't bitstream any audio format. It is one of the only devices that can do LLDV for Dolby Vision, HDR10, and SDR content though as you already mentioned.

It’s only useful when you use a media player and use either demo tracks with dthd/dtsma or a 4k blu ray. For streaming services you don’t need eARC at all. They all just do DD+ with atmos and just pass that over regular ARC without any difference in quality

Again this is only true if you have a TV capable of DD+, you can use an old TV that may not have any of these features and with the Arcana you can get Atmos. I've definitely noticed a difference with my content at least.

I guess the issue is every model and manufacturer is different. The Arcana wouldn't exist and be as popular as it is, if it was as simple as your setup. Hey J Y or anyone. Im new to the AV game so I recently built a home theater system. I went with with a weMAx short throw projector that has ARC and the projector has been amazing producing 4k quality. I have a Marantz AV with an extender that has ARC but only sends audio one way. So i'm practically using my NVDA shield was my media. The disney contents i know that have atmos on my old soundbar shows but on my projector it doesn't. Since i'm using the AV as my audio source, when I click on info, it shows DD, DD+ surround and ATMOS. Also with options to choose between any of those if the movie content has it. MY question is if i hit info on my remote and it shows ATMOS is it running that ? Because i don't see atmos during the title screens on disney plus or netflix. All I see if 5.1. So can I trust that what my AV says or I need to see that ATMOS on the movie title?

@@FMD023 sometimes the app itself needs to detect that there is an atmos capable system connected. But despite that will always send a 5.1 dd+ with atmos, regardless what is connected. But if your avr can decode it, it will sense the signal anyway

Great video thank you. I also have intermittent no-sound issue with my 2021 4K Apple TV, Sonos Arc and Samsung Q90R TV. I found that if you bring up Samsung built-in home screen, and click on volume up or down button, then go back to Apple TV screen you will get sound back without rebooting HD Fury. I plan to update the HD Fury firmware and hope they fixed this

The input on the Arcana is for you streaming stick or satellite. Then the eArc output on the Arcana goes to the Sonos Arc and the other output goes to your TV.

The arc output of the Arcana goes to your tv. The eArc output goes to your soundbar and the input is your Roku.

This device only supports one input. So you would plug the shield into the Arcana. The sound from the Shield should be in Atmos then. But the other devices you use with your TV won’t be.

You can get a 4k switch that you plug the source devices into, then plug that into the arcana. Then just select the channel on the switch that you're watching. Saves cable jumping all the time. It's what I have done on my set up.

Great video. I was looking at this device for my Atmos soundbar w/ non Atmos tv. For those who are looking at this device because your TV doesn't support Atmos but soundbar does, i found another alternative solution that might work for you. If your soundbar has hdmi input, you can get a 4kfiretv stick or googletv and plug into the hdmi input. The audio will send straight to the soundbar and you can get Dolby Atmos. (The output of the soundbar will send the video of the device you using to the TV) Hopes this helps👍

My my projector when using NVDA shield doesn't show ATMOS on the movie contents but when I hi the option button on my marantz, it shows ATMOS, DD, DD+. Also gives me options to select each one alone but don't know if it's really playing in those contents. I used to have a soundbar and i would know when because the soundbar will say atmos. My set up is a 7.1.2 system with a Marantz AV. Sucks i can't see the ATMOS symbol on the movie content but hopefully my AV is telling me right.

Any device that can split a 4k hdr hdmi signal with lossless sound such as Dolby truehd into two separate audio and video hdmi streams so that I can plug video one into the 4k hdr TV and the losless audio one into the hdmi input of an old avr that supports lossless audio but doesn't have arc or eArc.

Bro, my tv has coaxial and hdmi arc plugs, while my soundbar only has optical plugs. So that the sound produced is good, choose the Coaxial - optical converter or Hdmi arc - optical converter? Or are both the same because the output is also optical?

Yeah Firestick will work too. I also have Sky Q. You just plug Sky into one of your TV’s other hdmi ports and the audio will still play through the Sonos Arc but won’t communicate with the Arcana, so you won’t get any of the added sound benefits.

I'm sure you tried but I thought I'd ask.. have you tried going into the TVs advanced sound settings and changing from PCM to either bitstream or auto. That's unusual because LG OLED TV started Dolby Atmos passthrough TVs with the 2017+ models! I didn't have a problem when I was using my 2018 LG OLED TV, mind you that was the E8 model.

Do you have the Nvidia shield plugged directly into the Arcana input? You'll only get Atmos from that device not any apps on your TV etc.

@@foralltechkind that is right. The shield tv pro is plugged in to the arcana hdmi input while eArc out to soundbar. Hdmi put to TV Arc. Pretty much the same from your video. Except using shield TV. Could it be my TV issue?

@@c5071664 No TV shouldn't be the issue, as the TV really just gets the picture now. All sound is handled between soundbar and input device via the Arcana. Have you checked the settings on your soundbar and Nvidia Shield? To make sure you've select Dolby Atmos etc. If you're still having problems, visit the HDFury site and they have a support group on Discord that can troubleshoot your issues.

I don’t know if the Arcana has been updated for the Beam 2 but in theory it should work. However, the Arcana only enables Atmos audio from external devices, so it wouldn’t work with apps on your TV (you’ll still have sound but not Atmos).

Thank you for your video, nice job. Any idea if it will work with a Non-ARC TV? I’ve got a Sonos ARC and an older TV and am utilizing the optical converter to get audio from my TV to the Sonos. It sounds and works fantastic. Would like to get better sound to the Sonos ARC if possible without having to buy a new TV. The second question is if you still have to power cycle the HDFury Arcana periodically? I need to keep my system super simple so that my wife can use it when she wants to without having to do anything except push a button on our Apple TV remote. The blanking of the screen at pause is manageable but having to power cycle the unit is a deal breaker.

@@foralltechkind I sent an email to HD Fury explaining my configuration and asking if it would work. Here is their response: ------------- You need to use an external source like an appletv4k, bluray player etc to send audio to the sonos arc. As the tv cannot be upgraded to ARC or eARC. So as long as you use external sources it will work. Once you do the initial setup on the sonos using a CEC display (This is a sonos requirement) You need an ARC tv only for initial setup. Once this is done an ARC tv is no longer needed. ---------- It sounds like if I set the Sonos ARC up on a TV that has CEC and then move it to my house and connect to Arcana it will work. I checked with my neighbor and they have an eARC TV that they will let me connect to so I may try it. There is risk because if it doesn’t work I lose the $32 in shipping and would have to pay to ship the Arcana back so I would have to be willing to risk losing $70 to try it. Not sure it’s that important to me. Will see have to think about it for a bit. Not sure how much difference it will really make in my tiny room.

Oh sounds a bit complicated but good there is a workaround. Suppose you can always check with them what their return policy is and if it doesn’t work, return it!

Yeah I believe you need Arc at least. However, check with HDFury, I have read about people using this with a projector.

Does the Arcana use computer chips/processors? Well then like all things that do, every so often they have to get powered off and powered on - aka / unconnected and reconnected. I just used the HDMI cable Sonos provided. I know some users talk about certain HDMI cables being best for the Arcana because of their bandwidth but I haven’t had any issues since updating the firmware.

Hello, i got a Samsung Soundbar (HWQ600A) with Dolby Atmos support but with only a ARC output, my question is: Will the HDFury Arcana work with only a ARC port (AND not an eARC port)? Sorry I’m a bit confused by your question. But if you’re asking if sound will work from other HDMI sources not directly connected to the Arcana, the answer is yes. The arcana connects to your TV and enables Atmos sound for the device directly connected to it, but also supplies normal sound to the soundbar for any TV apps or other HDMI sources plugged into the TV.

Yup! The Arcana only works with external devices. It can't enable Atmos for any apps built into your TV etc. You'll only get Atmos from an external device plugged directly into the Arcana.

I don’t personally know of a switch but I’m sure it would work. HDFury sell some switches but some of them can be very expensive. I only own one Atmos capable device, so haven’t needed to test a switch.

Excellent vid...new sub! I have old 2012 Panny plasma TV with one ARC HDMI. I just added a Sonos ARC and sound is great; however, only getting Stereo PCM audio quality. I have a XboxOne connected to my TV HDMI (non-ARC), roof antenna connected to the tuner, and the Sonos connected to the ARC HDMI as well. Question, if I add the Arcana, will I be able to get audio from my antenna tuner through the ARC HDMI into the Sonos soundbar? I know it wont be high quality audio but just want to ensure I get audio for over the air signal. I emailed HDfury but they dont respond. Thx

I have a Samsung mu7000 with one connect box (support arc) and a Samsung hw-950t atmos soundbar. If I use this, and connect to the arc in one connect box, will I get Dolby atmos in Netflix app and all my devices (media player, Apple TV 4k 2021) that's plugged in to the one connect box.

The Arcana does not enable Atmos for apps on your TV. It will only enable Atmos for the one media device plugged directly into the Arcana.

EDIT ..I could not get APPLETV4k to maintain SONOS ARC as default audio output ..We could switch it back but THEN audio began dropping out all together ...it kept changing back to TV Speakers ... Turning off HDMI CEC on ATV temporarily fixed this issue but it came back the next day .... Instead of going round and round with Apple tech support (useless don't waste your time seriously) I changed to an NVIDIA SHEILD PRO .... well I couldn't get sound to work AT ALL or even SONOS to confirm HDMI connection UNTIL I RESET ARCANA TO FACTORY DEFAULT ....after that it works perfectly and even CEC works as I can control the ARC volume with the Nvidia remote ...this may or may not have resolved the issue with ATV4k ..I did not hook it back up to test it since the NVIDIA SHEILD seems to work so well and supports atmos / HDR etc..... SO if your having connection issues RESET ARCAN TO DEFAULT 😁 your welcome

Hi Mate, I have a Sony A8 OLED so I already have Earc on my TV so the reason I am looking at one of these is because of the dreaded Lip synch issue between my Sky Q and Sonos Arc. It’s Ridiculous that I’m having to spend yet more money and I have tried the settings on Sky Q box. Can I ask just how small in the screen on the HD Fury and is it easy to read and navigate because my eye site isn’t good and I’m old? Have the company sorted out the screen going black yet? Hey! So I can’t speak to lip sync functionality, as I haven’t had that issue but everything I’ve seen everyone else say is promising. The screen is small but very clear due to the contrast of the text colour. Which screen going black? TV or the screen on the arcana?

The TV going black happens very very infrequently for me! Not an issue to be honest. Yeah it’s crazy it can’t update over Wi-Fi but I imagine that functionality would make this already expensive device even more expensive!

Any changes to picture quality are minimal. No amount of tech can change what panel your TV is built with unfortunately. So don’t expect a massive change, I think it’s more detail in the dark areas because the Arcana can handle more data. Apparently the picture improvements are more noticeable with projectors.

The Arcana enables Atmos from a soundbar that supports it, even if the TV doesn't. So in theory it should work for you! The TV you have doesn't matter, as long as it has an ARC HDMI port and your soundbar supports Dolby Atmos.

Are you saying the update fixed the issue where you had to unplug and plug it back in when you were having no sound turn on? Lastly, does it just stay on? I think HDFury are US based, so hopefully it shouldn’t take long to arrive if it’s in stock! Yeah the new update seems to have fixed that issue. I haven’t had to unplug/plug it in since I made the update, which is great. As for its power, you don’t need to turn it on and off. It automatically wakes up when it detects a HDMI source. So as you turn on the TV it’s ready to go, and then goes to sleep shortly after you turn the TV off. Once you have the Arcana setup, you shouldn’t have to touch it again 👍

The Arcana only provides Atmos for external devices, so it won't enable Atmos for any apps on your TV, so you will need an Xbox or Apple TV for example.

Hi. Great video, Thanks,was looking for something like as bought a sonos arc+sub+two 1 SL. Problem is my Samsung 65" NU7100 model 2018 didn't give any sound output on ARC only, so had to use optical connection of TV and sonos in the box optical to hdmi adapter. Now my appreciation is before making such an expensive purchase is as ARC port of TV itself gave no sound then will it work with Arcana? Any insights will be highly appreciated. Thanks. Another quick Q, is there any return policy on Arcana if it doesn't support my TV?

If your TV has arc it should support sound over HDMI, so maybe you need to tweak settings on your TV. I can't say it will 100% work but I don't see why it wouldn't. I assume HDFury have a return policy but you'll have to check their website or message them. It's worth mentioning they are based in the US so returns would take longer.

IF you power the arcana through the USB port on the TV - and not directly plugging it into a wall - your sound issues will go away. It seems by doing that, when you turn your tv on, it forces the arcana to do all of the proper ‘handshakes’. Once I did that, the intermittent ‘no sound’ issues vanished.

great video - I've got two challenges I'm trying to resolve. 1. I have a standard receiver and 5.2 setup with a Epson 4010 projector, but I want to move to the Sony HT-9a surround, that comes with it's own controller box or possibly the Sonos Arc, since I have a ton of Sonos. Both expect an eArc/Arc HDMI connection from a tv. Since the projector only has 1 hdmi 2.2 and 1 hdmi 1.4, it is not an ideal setup. so, I think I need an HDMI switch, and maybe the HDFury, but I can't seem to find a high quality switch that support 4k 120hz for the PS5. I'm also thinking of still using my receiver and testing the hdmi out, into the HDFury, then to the soundbar or sony control box. - any thoughts from all the A/V guru's out there?

HDFury have a high quality 120hz switch I believe but it’s expensive. But otherwise I’m not too sure how to help with your setup. Between an expensive switch and the Arcana it’s almost better to buy a new TV I think!

Even the new Hisense projector only has 3 HDMI's, so a switch would still be needed if I want to use something like the Sony or Arc. It looks like the HDFury 8K VRROOM 40Gbps is the answer for me. It will not be out before 12/1/2021, but it looks like it does the job of a switch and the Arcana. 4 HDMI In, 2 HDMI Out, 1 HDMI eARC Out, 1 HDMI Audio Out, 1 RS232, 1 RJ45, 2 IR, 1 1Relay Control, 1 Analog Jack & Optical Out.

I have updated to 0.86 but occasionally have to switch off power to the arcana and I don’t always get Atmos straight away unless I try different programs on it . Hey! Trying to find out if I need this device for my setup. I have a Samsung RU8000 TV which only has an ARC port. I have an Samsung HW-Q950T Soundbar on order. The bar supports Atmos. My main goal is to have Atmos play on 4K Blu-rays that are played from my Blu-ray player. Do I need this device to have that happen? Or is there any work around to have atmos work on this soundbar from external devices? The soundbar i’m ordering does have two HDMI 2.1 inputs, if that makes any difference.

If the soundbar has an hdmi input and then an eARC output, would that not play the atmos content natively from the source device, and then pass through video over ARC/eARC to the TV? Does this device just do a “better” job of it, or is it for only if the soundbar/audio system doesn’t do pass through?

As you say it’s for audio systems that don’t offer pass through. The Arcaca is most popularly used with the Sonos Arc which doesn’t have a pass through. Also, it has a few other benefits such as fixing lip sync issues.

Great video. This was very informative. However I have one question which some of you might be able to answer. I'm have a LG soundbar without eARC, and my TV does have an eArc. I go from my nvidia shield pro to the soundbar for steaming, movies etc. My soundbar supports dolby atmos, and all the other encodings etc.., once I play a (let's say) a dolby atmos movie I see on the soundbar LED screen that it outputs / switches to Atmos and all other formats (DTS, DTS-X etc). My question now is : Am I getting true atmos or is it a downscaled encoding? Do I need to buy this to convert to earc for the full effect and quality? Please advise. Thanks!!

Hi mate, not sure if you have an answer here yet. My thoughts is that if your soundbar supports atmos then it will be true atmos. It may still have earc port functions just might not be specified as earc. If the light is on to show atmos I'd say you're good. Maybe do a test. Find movie that has atmos and 5.1 then change the audio channel as the movie is playing. Or if you have a movie that plays atmos on disc but not streamed try that way.
