Samsung Smartcam HD Plus - Review

Samsung's Smartcam HD Plus is a wireless security camera for your home that you can set up to receive mobile alerts and view live footage through your phone. The HD Plus promises better video quality and night vision through a larger sensor, and better motion detection. The new design borrows heavily from the Nest Cam, so the camera is finally discreet enough to serve as a proper security camera; much in contrast to the Smartcam HD Pro which is surrounded by a large, white plastic face. The base is made of aluminum, and the overall design of the HD Pro feels more premium than before. You can permanently mount the camera to your wall with its provided screws, or set it on its base on any surface.

just a quick suggestion on having to unplug it and plug it back in. you can remedy this by plugging it into a smart plug. I realize this is inconvenient but I used to do this with a s***** router I used to own and instead of going downstairs and plugging it when it froze I just used my WeMo plug at the time

Great review. The SmartCam Android app has many issues and too many permissions which are privacy/security issues for me (rated 3.4). Also the latest firmware update earlier this year has many frustrated with connectivity and functionality lost.

Can you view the camera over cellular data? Also can you download the video straight to your phone over wifi or do you have to take the sd card out and plug it into your computer? Thanks!

I own 2 of these cameras. They worked ok at first, but now almost 3 years later, neither of them will focus on anything outside of 2 feet in front of the camera!! It is no longer supported by Samsung, and no one anywhere (web or otherwise) appears to be able to provide an answer as to why this is happening, or how to fix it. Anyone else having this issue?

Bought one 8 years ago from Costco. Worked great for 5 years free via wifi now they Samsung has an app called SmartCam+ and will charge you a monthly fee. Long story short can't view my camera any longer not unless I sign up for a monthly contract fee to view the camera. Oh well, Another trash .
