Digitech holds a special place in my heart. I have the x series chorus, phaser and reverb on my board and I now I want to start collecting the hardwire series starting with the delay.

I got one of these new for $70 years ago when they were discontinued. Not a single regret. It sounds great and is a lot of fun! I still have the glow in the dark sticker and the velcro in the box lol!

The thing that makes this delay so amazing is the modulated mode, it's basically a Lexicon PCM42 in pedal form. Plus Steve Lukather uses two of them... LOL

I've discovered that the full 8 seconds for the Digital delay mode is not available in Stereo Ping Pong mode. It only goes up to 8 seconds in Mono. I tried to tap 8 seconds into it but it would NOT do it for any mode, regardless of M/S routing. Max delay time I got for non-Digital modes in Tap was only 4 seconds.

Sweet jams in the office! What a wild and confusing pedal 🙂 Did I mention how much I enjoyed the jams? Love hearing you test stuff with a backing track at least part of the time. Makes sense they can’t all be backing jams when you’re clearly explaining what a pedal does and to share specific sounds.

Thanks! I am hoping to hit a good balance of pedal-by-itself samples to backing track demos. The backing tracks let me play more naturally, and I think show the effects more in their natural habitat.

Thank you very much for the nice video! About 7-8 years ago, I saw Steve Lukather's gig at Baked Potato, and found two of these on his board. I think they got marked short and long. I was thinking about getting a delay pedal, checked Guitar Center and found it was on sale around $70, so I got it. Top pro like him can afford more expensive gears, so I wondered why - must be reliable and sounding good! His board was not that big, and these are not compact pedals. I imagined he chose them over other smaller pedals with good reasons. I still do not know how he used them but I know the outcomes - he sounded amazing!

Thanks for reminding me that this pedal has tap tempo! Sounds great with 8 seconds of delay. I found the loop feature to be not very usable but that's ok, just stick a ditto after it.

@ 4:40 You say you can't tap-tempo when the pedal is engaged. Then at 5:15 you say that you can't bypass without holding for 2 sec. because it still thinks it's in tap-tempo mode.

Hey brother I watch your videos and I have to say that I love your pedal presentations. This is my most used delay after I owned it's predecessor "digidelay". They are both amazing and I will never sell them. A tip for all Harwire and x-series digitech pedals... you don't need a screwdriver to access the battery compartment. They can easily be opened up with the tip of the jack. It doesn't look like it works but it does. Anyway kudos man, much love

The slap back setting is the best sounding delay sound. Like a more dirty tape echo, or like an old Ibanez AD9 without the hiss and mud. I use the slap back mode with tap tempo and can then get much longer time delay settings than the knob gives.

Well made! The first realistic review of this pedal, i found on YT. I agree with the negative points, plus: if you place another stereo-Pedal before the delay, it won't give the ping-pong anymore. What?! Yes. So I tried out an unusual pedal order: The stereo chorus after the delay in Digi-Mode. And it sounds very interesting (for shoegaze-fiddeling). Ping-pong works and it adds a kind of shimmer to the delayed sound. But I guess this will not good work with tremolo or phaser. 😀 I bought it for 50 Euro some years ago and still like the design and quality of build. And the analog, tape and loFi sound is really nice. But the hype and price-jump for this and his brothers is probably made by some overexcited reviews on YT. There are already better pedals for reasonable price on market. (and with better tap-tempo) i like your channel. Good work. Interesting facts and good entertainment. Beside JHS, it's the only channel, i watch sometimes.

I bought all my hardwire pedals years ago. When they were super affordable. The tube OD hardwire is about the only stinker in the lot.

I respectfully disagree on the CM-2 Tube Overdrive. I love it for warm fat blues tones and southern rock. It's a tubescreamer on steroids. I have 3 can't live without em lol

I've had one for years but just use some short repeats for solo's in the digital setting, it's just a very good and reliable delay sound to me, no need for an upgrade but then again I'm no delay junkie. Playing around with it it can still be lots of fun though.

The looper’s for glitches and drones not conventional looping, let’s all agree, whether or not Digitech intended it that way. Intriguing to see the upgrades (lofi! stereo ins) from the Digidelay predecessor, which was my first pedal and remains in my board, and also how much stayed the same

I have 3 Hardwire and 2 X-Series Digitechs - with the DL-8 I could happily gig with a 6-8 pedal (gotta add my Ventura & Distortion Factory) with an all-Digitech board 😍

Just found your channel, dude. Great content, and love your style of demoing! The Hardware series has been close to my heart for a few years, now. They're all so cool! However, I have to admit that the DL8 was probably my least favourite of the ones I've tried. I much prefer the older, X-Series version: the DigiDelay! What Hardware pedal are you doing next?

Probably the Boss DD-8, to be honest. It's got a tap tempo that's easier to engage, and I think the modes are a little more relevant and useable.
