You might want to keep the blue barrels. As open compost brings some varmints living out of town. I had rats, squirrels, and even opossums. That is food source for them. And I live in a subdivision. Now I use closed up barrels.

Your stars and Robbie & Brent's lights look so beautiful! Little did you know, when he put them up, what joy they would bring a few weeks later, as you're forced to sit so much! With the sun setting so much earlier, especially up here in Canada, I spend my days thinking about watching your and Robbie's videos every night and pretending I'm in California....it's the only thing keeping me sane right now. Thank you to both of you LOL!!! Great job Jason!

Hi Janie, I just wanted to remind you that garlic is a nitrogen hog and beans produce a lot of nitrogen so they make get companion plants. I added m6 garlic to my bean beds which will be done by deep winter but will have given my soil a lot of nitrogen. Love love you and prayers for complete healing. I also wanted to remind yo7 to plant some comfrey as well by you plants and trees, they are nitrogen fixers. And you can harvest the leaves to make a salve for your foot to help it, especially later as it may get sore when your working out in the garden or even develop arthritis. This is from personal experience, a necessity for me! lol but I am 60 and much older than you , lol hugs, love and lots of prayers! From Texas!

Hey Janey, I can’t believe HOW much you’ve already accomplished with your property…and with a boo boo foot I hope it’s getting better. About your compost bin, I’ve seen another KZbinr, “April Wilkerson” Easy DIY Compost Bins 3 Bin Compost Plans…I really love this design and of course you can make modifications, and she has a great idea for an attached raisable lid to keep out critters. Janey you might want to just move those roller compost bin to the different location or paint them black. They are so much less work than the 3 bin method that you have to manually have to turn often. I have both and the roller system saves your back from all that bending. You have such a great attitude about your injury and keep pushing on. Jason is a jewel.

Janey, You may have thought of this already. I have been watching your videos the last few weeks trying to catch up from day one to current. here is a thought for you, I have a 3 acre lot and lots of flower beds. clay dirt zone 5. but i keep a big pile of dirt in my way back out of the way. I add horse manure, ( behind you) leaves, grass chopped up, straw we plant a lot of grass. so when we start mowing/picking up leaves we have that straw in there. also shreadded bark from trees we may take down. i mix it all up and use that as compost when i put in new beds or new plant. i love my big pile hahah just a thought.. Janey, glad you are feeling better. For your carrots, the hardest thing in our zone 9b, is to get them to germinate. I have found fall sowing, covering with moist newspaper and putting something to keep the paper from blowing or using row cover to keep the birds from eating the seeds or young seedlings and moistening the soil daily really helped. Hope this works for you

With the composting bins you will be building, one thing you may want to consider is where in your yard you will be putting them. There is often a distinct odor from composting material 🤣🤣. I was diagnosed with FND (functional neurological disorder) in December last year. I spent months in bed, unable to walk without using a walker (and even then it was difficult). I had constant tremors, shaking, and double vision. Since then I seem to have “flare ups” where my condition gets bad, but a few weeks in between where I can use a cane and go out to my garden 🪴. But I can tell that my endurance and stamina has suffered so much. I lost a bunch of weight that I think was mostly muscle 😢 This past season the weeds took over so I’m seriously considering raised beds! Thank you for sharing your thoughts ❤
