Loved the action and high body count of this movie. Richard Dreyfus as Baby face Nelson. And the Thompson submachine gun once again makes a darling appearance on the movie screen. As does the Browning automatic rifle.

YO! You did Dillinger! It definitely oversold how many people were killed by Dillinger and his gang, but it's super rare to see a Crime Movie where all the leads are a bunch of irredeemable bastards.

That is true and the gang included lesser known criminals of notoriety in the movie that weren’t affiliated or died in the events, but a nice added touch. But the movie does evoke the truth on some of these criminals back in the day of being stopped by violent ends. Baby face Nelson is one that had one and was very dangerous as he had a pure hatred for police and fbi. Even tracked and hunted agents by their license plates. Famously said to his comrade when they chased and crashed their vehicles in a firefight: “I’ve had enough of this!” And charged the agents getting riddled but laughing it off and gunning them down. Scary to imagine and just charging them despite being shot so many times.

@@enlightenerofcryptozoology8761 and then, of course, the 90s. I suppose it gets a boost every couple decades. Living in NYC and knowing certain people got me really intrigued. I was just far enough away to find it fascinating and not terrifying. Now, the classic East Coast mob doesn't exist, really. I'm also into the history of the city and history in general, plus true crime, so that plays into it. I also like how these people seemed to be such good storytellers on their own. Whether it was real or not, my friends and fam could tell a story.

Fun movie but the actual number of deaths was no where near this number. Many might like Public Enemy (which was also not historical) but it was far closer then this movie. So much of this movie never happened. Handsome Jack Klutas was a member of the College Kidnappers and was killed in a shootout with the Chicago police not gun down by Melvin Purvis. Oh due to Melvin leading the group that did end up killing Dillinger he was getting far too much of the limelight and J Edgar Hoover was the only one at the FBI who can get that and he was forced out.
