Thank you so much for spending your time pulling these videos together. I could see that if this reloader was just setup haphazardly, things could go badly and possibly deadly. I take all phases of firearm safety very seriously. KZbin has some video’s,showing exactly what I’m talking about. Again thank you , Tim. Team SQUACH

Great series. I’ve watched these several times while setting up my first press (Dillon 550b). After getting all the dies set I noticed the “coke bottle” shape of the rounds. Is this what you mentioned at the end? Seems it’s normal for Dillon, is a benefit, and is unsightly to some.

Try a little more flare and/or lighten up on the crimp. You only want to take the bell out. Measure your OD at your casemouth. Shoot for .377 - .379. Also on your flare look for a starting point of about .012 flare from OD.

Squatch Reloading ok I’ll keep working on it. Brand new to reloading and trying to figure these out. So is it possible with the Dillon dies to not get the coke bottle or hour glass look to the casing? Thank you again!
@SquatchReloaded

Not completely but you can minimize it with the methods I mentioned. No worry’s they still shoot great.

Squatch Reloading what measurements (in general) should I be aiming for at the base, mid point, and mouth of the case after completing a round?
@SquatchReloaded
@SquatchReloaded 4 жыл бұрын
simmo156 the mid measurement is somewhat irrelevant. The mouth is going to be the one to control with your crimp. I shoot for .377 - .380 and that usually flattens out the case bell for insertion. You will also see some variance due to case wall thickness between different brands along with bullet diameters. A case guage is your friend to confirm you are meeting saami specs.

Do you have a video on the case feeder on the 550? I've thought about upgrading my 550 with one but I'm not sure how well it works with the 550

I do not have a video on it other than what you see in the 550 series. The case feeder worked well on the 550

i wish you would explain how to and what length to set the decapping pin on the 9mm sizing/decapping die. I use 3/16 on my other dies.But they may not know this.My Dillon dioe came with it set at 1/2 inch which is too long in my opinon.

Your video is the best I have found. I am a real newbie here and I am setting up my Dillon 550 for .380 Auto. On this video you say to set up the sizing pin so that it just touches the shell plate. Can you elaborate on that. I would like to contact you via a phone call if possible. Thanks ahead of time.

New at this on my old Dillon 550B! Question, why is the bullets sliding into a sized case when they are sized to SAMMI Specs? Using 9mm Dillon die set.

@@SquatchReloaded Thank you! I just received my new Dillon 550C and getting ready to set-up after watching your videos. The only issue going forward is there is a major shortage of primers and bullets which I can't find local or online.

is it wise to skip a step and not deprime the casing before washing and just de-prime size and continue to re-prime and finish the cartridge with dirty primer housing? Ive never had a progressive press before so I decapped the case and then tumble washed before repriming and finishing the load. was wondering. because I have seen both ways on line.
@SquatchReloaded
@SquatchReloaded 3 жыл бұрын
I deprime before I clean most of the time. However on occasion I have not even cleaned and just immediately reloaded cartridges after firing. It all boils down to a matter of preference no issues either way in my opinion.

@@SquatchReloaded gotcha! cool ive been reloading here and there for about 3 years. maybe only have 500 rounds under my belt. always just on a single stage.cleaned first though . Im lazy though so never liked to sit there all day to reload.with all the steps. just lately ammo shortage ordered 750XL to get more automated.. I saved a bunch of casing though never intended to reload all of them. usually only fired factory loads and hardly saved brass.. (regret it now). I love to shoot so will be reloading what I have. hopefully I can find primers after this case of primers is gone. Whats the Max time average you reload a case? ill be picking them up from now on! learned a lot from your videos. thanks for putting them up to share! Im sure when I get the set up will run into problems. Do you mind if I message you when I do?

I am glad you are finding some value in these videos. You can always email me directly no problem. If that doesn’t work you can always call me. As far has how much time...well on my XL750 I would say in a good cadence problem 700 ish per hour.

Great video. The sizing/decamping die, when u confirm the sizing die and run them through ur case gage, what is the next step if they don’t fall right out? I am reloading 10mm, some brass move freely into and out of the LE Wilson case gage. Some require a push from the other end. Any words of wisdom?
