I can not thank you enough. I just bought a Dillon 550 second hand so I can learn to reload. it came with tons of odds and ends and I was having difficulty making heads or tails of it. this no nonsense and easy to understand tutorial now gives me the confidence to set up my dies and powder drop. thanks a ton!

Thank you so much for your video! Very detailed and step by step. One thing you did not mention is that before setting the bullet on the case, be sure to run it up into Die #1 to downsize the neck a bit. When I first set the bullet on the case, it fell into the shell... every shell I tried. Then I realized Die#1 would downsize the neck appropriately. Also, you should mention that before putting powder in, be sure to back off on the powder bar nut several turns. My first try I got powder everywhere! Backing off the nut got me started without overflowing the shell with powder. Anyhow, thanks again!!

I watched your videos on the set up and the one on 9mm. I have ben back and forth between the BL and the C. I watched someone else's video on setting up the C, and he made it seem like you need an engineering degree just for the basic set up. You made all three operations just about effortless. I will be ordering the BL and using the money I save for the conversion kits and Tool heads. Thank you.

When I bought my RL450 some years ago I didn't have much faith that a progressive press would actually throw accurate charges for precision reloading. I must say that of the 6 powder measures I have, the Dillon is hands down the most consistent performer, bar none. Great video., that mentions some "finer points" of this type of press. Thanks.

Jeez, you are doing this the hard way. I reload 4 calibers on my 550 - 9mm, 45 ACP, 38 Spcl, and 10mm. I have a toolhead and powder funnel for each. Set it up once. Then the caliber conversion is as simple as slide out the old toolhead, slide in the new toolhead, and change over from small to large (or vice versa) primer system. Then run a single case to check the powder charge and confirm the overall length. Done in less than 5 minutes, including cleaning the primer slide.
@funbro1
@funbro1 Жыл бұрын
Jeez, I didn’t think I would have to break it down this way but I was mistaken. When you purchased your 550 was it fully assembled? When you bought your tool head for 9mm, 45 ACP, 38 Spcl, and 10mm did the tool head and powder funnel come already set up? If so then this video may not be for you, but if not this video will show how to set it up. Once it is set up then apply the method you mentioned but as I understand it everything must be set up first, that is what this video is referring to. Hope this better explains the video. Thanks for watching

Great video! How can you possibly have your brass already sized and trimmed, if you're putting the sizing die in here? I'm putting my sizing die in a separate toolhead, and putting a universal decapping die in its place to clear any media left in the pocket from tumbling (tips I've read online). I've actually purchased another decapping die and toolhead to leave it in my 223 setup, and just to have as a spare for removing primers, as that's what will frequently break the pin. Tumble, deprime, clean/unify pockets, lube, size, trim, tumble, and then load, was what i was planning. Are you removing all of the dies to prep the brass or using a separate toolhead? If not, what are you doing in your process? I've had my 550c for 7 months, just picked everything up for 223, and figured I'd see how others are setting up the dies. Some minor details caused a eureka moment for me and probably simplied some things which take me a while to setup. Thanks.

After waiting almost 2.5 years to get my .223 dies from Dillon, I need to put them in my 550b. Question though…..do you case prep (decap, shoulder bump, size and trim) and then remove all of the case lube before loading on the 550b? If so, why bother with the sizing die on the tool head? I have loaded .223 on a single stage RCBS but not on my 550b yet.

I'm a little confused about camover. Have the Dillon 550 but use Lee dies. They(LEE) say to raise the ram up, screw in the sizing die till it touches the plate, lower the ram, then screw down the die another 1/4 or half turn. This creates what I thought was cam over. Your die isn't touching. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

I am new to reloading and am considering a Dillon 550C. I am learning ins and outs of reloading by watching videos. Your video is very good but I must have missed the part where the mouth of the 223 case is flared. Normally this is done in station 2 with powder die. I only saw you set this die to move powder bar to full right stop. Does this also set the flare? If so, how do you separate setting powder bar movement vs enough flare to set bullet in seating die properly? Again, great info, like I said I am new and will be reloading 223 for match grade results.

I'm trying to reload using some hornady varmint rounds, and they are not boat tail bullets. I find it pretty difficult to seat them as they have a flat base. Is it just naturally going to be a slower more maticulous process to reload these flat base rounds? they dont like to stay on the case mouth so ive gotta hold onto them all the way up to the mouth of the die. Curious to hear your input. I might grab some boat tail rounds instead.
@funbro1
@funbro1 6 жыл бұрын
It will be a slower process but you may be able to help speed the process up by flaring the cases just a little bit more. Always be careful not to over extend the flair but a little bit might help speed things up a bit. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
