Li Yugang is a famous Chinese Opera singer that specialises in female parts. He is a declared National Treasure Cultural Artist of China just as Dimash is a declared National Treasure Cultural Artist of Kazakhstan. Both are highly talented, famous and highly respected.

Li Yugang's has a very interesting and unique voice, as I understand it, a man sings female opera parts (Chinese opera is different from European). If you just listen to his voice, you get the impression that a woman is singing (I have dissonances). When Dimash sings very high notes, I still understand that sings a Man (not women), his voice are more strong. An interesting and unusual duet, a very beautiful stage and stage scenery (China is always on top in this regard), I liked=))

Li Yugang sings the first part in Chinese pop style, then the rest using his "female" voice in Peking opera style. In Peking Opera the female roles were traditionally played by men singing falsetto. Li often performs this number dressed in female Peking opera costumes and moves like a female as well. Because he intentionally imitates a female, his singing is very soft and feminine. When Dimash sings in head voice he uses western operatic style (aka bel canto). He sounds like a western opera soprano but with a slightly darker color. Dimash never imitates female voice. When you sing that high you will automatically sound as bright as a female regardless of your sex. In this performance Dimash and Li are playing the roles of emperor and concubine and singing about their love. Dimash sits in a golden dragon throne (dragon design is reserved for emperors) and later sings the low, masculine pop notes. Li's chair is less elaborate but colorful.

I know that many don't agree, but to me, this performance of Dimash and Li Yugang was sheer ear candy. I am not Asian/Oriental, but I was a professional singer many years ago and my ears can still discern perfection when they hear it. These two played their roles *so* well, and the counter-melodies they sang throughout, not to mention their other-worldly harmonies made this performance a stand-out for me. The tones, the runs, the trills all flowing throughout this amazing backdrop is stunning to me.

In Classical Chinese Opera, all roles were played by males, with the “female” roles sung in falsetto. As you mentioned, Dimash always coordinates well with whomever he sings duets with. Here, we hear for the first time this indescribable beautiful pearly tone ...! I guess Dimash will never stop surprising us! I have also posted the story behind the song, which I happened to have written two years ago, in the Dimash USA Fan Club FB page. Sorry, it’s too long and doesn’t load in the comments section. Basically the song is a new re-write of the Chinese Opera of the same name, based on the story of the Noble Consort Yang, of the Tang Dynasty. Extremely tragic story. The original described a scene in her life, but this new version is a monologue probably by her ghost/ soul, as she longs for the past and remembers her willing sacrifice (she was forced to hang herself)for the sake of her true love for the Bright Emperor. That growl by Dimash is very hard to understand, but I think I’m hearing “How are we to reunite...” Thank you!

I read that Li Yugang is a very famous Chinese opera singer known for playing female roles. I enjoyed his voice, but not sure how well it mixed with Dimash towards the end. I did really enjoy the performance though....Dimash never disappoints! (I love his whistle notes too....if you got it, flaunt it!)

BRAZIL- Olly, how are you ?? Always smiling, I love that about you and your sincerity. I loved the duet, researched and saw that Li Yugang is famous in Chinese opera, playing female roles, a lot of respect and great talent. Dimash knows how to respect people, the culture of other countries and always makes beautiful performances, like this one. Of course, Li does not have Dimash's vocal training and in the end I also found it out of place with Dimash's great voice, who knew how to respect his colleague's limit. But I liked it, I like traditional Chinese music and Li sang it almost at the end. I admire Dimash for really looking for his way, testing his voice, as someone said, in the comments and Dimash never disrespects any person, artist, he seeks to know, learn and add this knowledge, his so young wisdom and in his music. In another video they said that Dimash repeated the note D8 ... I am not music, I leave it to those who know, but I love it when he makes whistles and I look forward to Dimash going up another octave and becoming the singer of the 7 Octaves or 8 Octaves, honestly, I think he can do it. Just wait and it will happen.

Li is actually very well trained vocally, its just a completely different way of using your technique, I more trained in like Dimash's way, and I have a friend who is trained in Li's way, we tried to learn each others style, and yeah, it was complete failure, there was just to much difference, your placement and use of support (yeah that's about the only similarity, we both need our diaphragm, but the usage is completely different) mouth shape, "shape" (or wideness) of your throat e.t.c. There're more differences, I can't state everything, I definitely missed stuff. It is also said that it is impossible to be trained in both styles and I do believe that. p.s. For those who know more differences feel free to add on. edit: oh and I forgot, Li's style is actually easier to mimic female voices. (this technique was actually created with the aim to mimic female voices)
