It simply amazes me to think of this young 21ish boy, leaving home and going to China by himself (at first) and taking on these professionals. The courage.. And with just one week to learn this song in English.

This was actually the first time he sang in English. The show gave him this to sing and he learnt the English phonetically within a week for the next episode. It’s actually astounding how he transmits the message of the song without ‘knowing’ the language! His pronunciation struggles are also to do with how differently English words are articulated compared with Kazakh. He’s come a long, long way since then. He is now starting to sound almost fluent after the months he has spent in Los Angeles.

During I Am Singer competition he could only basically say "hello, my name is Dimash" in English and he would learn the songs in various languages phonetically as he could only speak Kazakh and Russian. To top it off he had Chinese people helping him with the pronunciation. 😉 His English has improved so much that he can carry on a conversation with no problems.

You're right on about his English. He spoke very few words in English when this show was recorded. I can't imagine me singing a Kazakh song only having a week to learn it. Also, during this whole show he was doing other appearances in other cities. His management company at that time had him running all over the place!

Don't worry, 🙂 I myself follow him since shortly after The Singer in 2017 began and he still catches me of guard on a regular basis (usually with nearly every new song) as he always brings something unexpected. And yes his English was practically non-existent and consisted of only a few words and had to memorize the lyrics phonetically. But he is astonishingly good at this as the count of languages he performed songs in is at 14, if I am not mistaken. He is fluent in Kazakh and Russian (native) and in the meantime he is able to communicate without problems in English as well as in Chinese (as he spends a lot time there).

Dimash hat kein Englisch in der Schule und im Gymnasium gelernt, weil es Kasachstan ist, das erst seit den 1990 Jahren unabhängig von Russland wurde und erst einmal seine eigene Sprache wieder erlernen musste, denn als Kasachstan noch zu Russland gehörte war Russisch die einzige , erlaubte Sprache die auch nur erlernt werden durfte. Ich finde es immer leicht Kritik zu äußern, wenn die Aussprache nicht korrekt ist, darum geht es doch gar nicht, es geht um seine gesangliche Leistung und seine Performance und die war wieder übermenschlich. Möchte mal einen Ami hören, der kasachisch oder chinesisch spricht und dann einen Chinesen hören der das dann auch kritisiert. Diese Kritiken kommen oft von genau solchen Menschen die nur eine Sprache sprechen können. Es kommt hier nicht auf die Sprache an sondern den Gesang. Trotzdem danke für die Vorführung des Songs, obwohl es mich heute etwas verärgert hat, bei solchen Aussagen.
