Great reaction. As has been said in response to your 'disciplined crowd' comment - that is a very large part of what Yui and Moa do. They lead what the Japanese call 'ai no te' - the crowd sing along with their lines, they lead any chants, when they jump of make a particular move in the choreo so does the whole crowd. This is just one of the things that makes BABYMETAL special and unique and their shows such a great experience. So you're exhausted but happy after watching their videos ... imagine that feeling multiplied many times over at the end of being in the crowd at one of their shows.

I think it's quite prevalent not just in Babymetal, but most Visual Kei bands. Visual Kei Rock bands normally have a specific set of actions for every song they make that fans will stick to without question, no joke... it makes performances much more fun and definitely let's you enjoy every element of the show more

First off, I've seen this performance probably more than 20 times, but I've never spotted Su giving the sign you pointed out. I'd say it was probably for the sound guy or someone in mixing. Maybe her in-ear went too quiet or she just wanted it louder? But you didn't spot what happened to the microphone after the gong came up and the girls were on the floor. It's pretty funny and super professional at the same time. Little backstory about the stage: The video you reacted to was from night two of their two back-to-back concerts in the famous Budokan in 2014. I don't know if you noticed all the railings around the little walkways on stage, but the outer ones weren't installed in night one. They also performed Headbanger in night one, as second to last song and during the crowd involvement part when Moa and Yui chant "Hedoban, Hedoban", Yui fell from the stage. A solid 2.5 - 3m drop I'd say. Which is a lot for a 14 year old girl that wasn't even 1.50m. And even though she missed the rest of the song, she rejoined them for the next and closing song (Ijime Dame Zettai) after a short break, as if nothing had happened. Speaking of the last song, which was when Moa hurt herself right at the beginning of the performance. You can see it in her face in how much pain she was in all throughout the song, but of course, she pulled through and finished the concert. That night was a little bit cursed I'd say. Fortunately nothing happened in night two, which you watched here, if you don't count the little microphone mishap at the end after they fall down, which was pretty funny.
@perfectmaster42
@perfectmaster42 3 жыл бұрын
Lol. Came here to make exactly these two comments. Def good catch on the hand signal, which I likewise never caught in a zillion watchings. Pretty clearly a signal to make her in-ear -just a little- louder. Really cool to see also her facial gesture at the same moment where we see stage manager Su pop out of character for only milliseconds to sync with the crew.
@mr.osclasses5054
@mr.osclasses5054 3 жыл бұрын
I am torn in what the hand signal was for. I almost wonder if there was a problem with the center ring of the stage for part of the performance that night and she was asking if the gong was coming up and they were doing that part. Perhaps it could have just been because of the night before with the falling, she was checking if they were doing the lifting up part with the gong at all? It is most likely the sound guy theory, but there are a couple possible things it could be outside of that, which would be interesting to find out...if Su or the sound guy (or whomever she was signaling to) remember it.
@perfectmaster42
@perfectmaster42 3 жыл бұрын
@@mr.osclasses5054 If you look at Su's expression, the communication looked 2-way and completed. No way something as complicated as the gong could be discussed in an instant. The lift decends and the gong rises as surely as the Sun, except for the safety crew who manage the lift.
@mr.osclasses5054
@mr.osclasses5054 3 жыл бұрын
@@perfectmaster42 It actually can be if it was discussed while Yui & Moa were doing one of their songs and Su was in the back. They could have said, "give this signal to check before it's supposed to happen and we'll confirm." They know the gong spot is going to happen in the show, there's no way they wouldn't. So if they say "we're having a little trouble with the lift, check with us if it's happening just before" it's an easy two-way communication: she looks back and signals up like she did, and they give a thumbs up. That said, could she have communicated that to Yui and Moa in time as well? Yes, as the end of the song after she did that signal requires them to be looking back at her, easy enough to do another signal or gesture to let them know. Or, I'm sure there's a way for them to say in the in-ear sets for all of them "yes, the gong is happening." Like I said, I'm onboard with the sound guy theory as that is the most common communication between artists and the people in the back during shows, but I'm just saying it is possible it could be something else.

"such a disciplined crowd." that is what a big part of what Yuimetal's -and Moametal's task is in Babymetal to get the crowd to join in with the fun. It's part of old Japanese transitions which is also used in some J-Pop/Idol. And part of Babymetal's innovation for lack of a better word. To know how to make songs which combine and incorporate the Japanese crowd interaction and metal crowd interaction. The songs are written (also dances are designed) with the energy delivery in mind. With the build-ups, etc. This is also why you are happy and energized or drained. Or as one reactor ones famously said (paraphrasing from memory) "Babymetal are masters at manipulating emotions. And that's not negative, that's a good thing. Music is all about emotion." "I can't get over how well mic'd and produced that bass drum is." Now sure if he was also involved in the creation of the DVD, but I do know the first night of this show was released as a live album: "The album was mastered by Grammy Award winner Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound, NYC." Something else I remember: in a recent interview with drummer Anthony Barone said in Japan the techs would set up all the equipment like the drums at centimeter accuracy. So all you'd have to do is sit and play. This probably says something about how much effort they put into capturing the sound as well.

Nice reaction again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 And I appreciate your pointing out Su-Metal's finger sign. I have never noticed it. You have, of course, professional musician's sensory perception. You heard the crowd shout something a7 07:35. It was "Ki-e-ro" meaning "get out of here" in Japanese. This shout occurs everywhere BABYMETAL goes. For example, if you search with keywords "BABYMETAL - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! LIVE - 11/02/2020 - Wienna, Austria", you will find European audiences shouting this Japanese word. Note : In this European tour, supporting band is not East (original) Kami but West (American) Kami. They are also great musicians and the drummer's skill is different from Hideki but killing, too.

From an interview with Kobametal in PIA Music Complex Vol. 4 (Apr. '16): Kobametal: ...I will say I think they have gotten much tougher. For example, they work out their positions on the stage and the start signals amongst themselves and they know well how to use the ear monitors and things like that that are actually quite difficult to know how to use even for adult musicians. Q: Could you speak in more detail? Kobametal: Things like how to get the best balance of sound out of which instruments are used or how to adjust the differences that occur in large concert venues compared with smaller ones were things that the girls did not know how to approach in listening to the sounds of their shows at first. But now that they have done numerous tours and shows they have acquired the sense to know what to do and now they make detailed requests like asking that the drums be raised in volume for this song, or since this show is in a large venue could you please emphasize the rhythm a bit more and things like that. The ability to master the use of ear monitors in one’s teens is a great accomplishment, I think. Q: In other words, they are able to know what sounds are necessary for their performance? Kobametal: That is right. In the past they did not know what sounds were coming from which guitar and didn’t know the difference between the drum’s snare and its kick but recently they are able to say that they want more drum sound to make it easy to dance to this song or that and that it is easier to sing to the song with this guitar sound being enhanced and things like that. PS We got some leaked recordings of in-ear-monitor you could listen to if you want.

This has been a setlist staple for the nearly 10 years since it was first introduced, for good reason. It was this song and Karate that originally got me hooked. At Legend of 1997 it was the closing number and they did something special.

Also, great observation regarding Su-metal tapping the microphone as a signal to the stage staff, that move definitely isn't part of the normal choreography. ⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤘 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' was one of their early hits. It's great that after skipping this song altogether in 2018, that they brought it back for 2019-2020. Even though the song is about a fifteen year old girl attending her first heavy concert, Su was only fourteen when this was first recorded. It's not biographical, but it is a song she could relate to. At that age she was performing on stage, rather than attending concerts. I wish she got more straight up rockers like this one, she can certainly deliver them. She was 16 here at Budokan (March 2014). I don't think I've ever seen BABYMETAL do a bad performance of this song. I was thrilled to finally hear it live last year at the LA Forum.

Man i missed your reactions, i wish you come back with more BabyMetal songs, they're still rockin so hard \m/ Headbanger! is one of our all time favorite BM songs, so many live versions to keep enjoy them, like the Legend 1997, MoaBanger at Legend M, or Legend Metal Galaxy Day 2. Just pick one of them from Babymetal Reactor Resource II channel with a watermark logo to avoid copyright issues, or just pick something new ;) About the sign SuMetal did near the end of the song, that might be a little distraction from director's edited cut, but is a easter egg for us fans, actually it matches with what she said during an interview (don't remember exactly which one but it was about these live concerts). Budokan was one of their first big venues, and it was a dream come true, but as you might know new venues are new challenges and many things can go wrong, this was no exception and one of those technical difficulties was its In Ear Monitor (IEM), she said Kami Band sound was so loud and high she couldn't hear indications to follow the music properly so instead she follow the sound of the beat to keep the rhythm, so this might be the problem here doing the sign to volume up the IEM because is extremely useful help for them. But at last, all of those bad and sad moments were leave behind, because this year they took revenge from those performances and did a series of 10 live shows at the same place celebrating their 10 years. So mission acomplished. You should watch it, they released first livestream at 26/06, and there will be another at 24/07, so many highlights and epic performance to reassure BM magic is still there.\m/ Thanks for doing this and it will be cool if you come back with some BM songs here and there, btw there's a beautiful japanese youtuber who did a review to your reaction vid, her channel is "Hello AI Channel" ;) _LIVINGLEGEND_ _NOTACULT_ _10BABYMETALYEARS_

There are a lot of videos of these guys doing their own stuff such as Kami band, Kari band and one of 20 bands that Takayoshi Ohmura (pink guitar) has. LOL. Hideki is a second-generation drummer. He does a lot of collaborations with others. Him and Boh (Bassist) and the late Mikio Fujioka (guitar) have more of a jazz background.

Awesome reaction, and wow! That was one hell of a catch! As others have said, I've seen this video a bunch of times and never noticed that little signal gesture she was doing. It takes a performer to catch the signals other performers do, I suppose. As I said on someone else's comment, I am sure it is probably what you are saying regarding the sound guy, but given the story in the other comment regarding the "Red Night" performance the night before where both Yui and Moa fell/hurt themselves, I wonder if Su was checking if they were doing that spot still with lifting the gong up or not for safety reasons. My other thought is maybe there was an issue at some point during the performance that night where the inner ring of the stage (the whole thing moved in different ways) wasn't functioning properly and she was checking if it was going to happen. Like I said, it is probably a sound thing for her in-ear set-up, but just thought I'd put those out there since it was RIGHT before the gong spot. I 100% agree on the being happy and exhausted after watching their stuff. I think that's why I watch it before bed, to help me fall asleep from being tired, yet content.

Nice catch with the hand sign. Noticed it right away, and at first thought she was saying 1 more chorus but with backing track going it's not possible. So yeah, giving signal for lifting the gong or volume up in her IEM is possible. I think you're one of the first (if not the only one) catching that. 👍

This song might be one of the most "Japanese" songs of theirs. "Karate" was djent/metalcore, "Gimme Chocolate" was composed by the mastermind of a Japanese digital hardcore band MAD CAPSULE MARKETS. "Headbanger!!!" is a mash-up of many quotations, references, homages and parodies of Japanese rock/pop/anime songs of 1970's-1990's and the lyrics describing Japanese rock scene told from a girl's view.

Just for the sake of a future drum cover, please react to 'Sis. Anger' live. It only features Yui and Moa on vocals (the two beside the lead vocalist, Su), and it's by far the heaviest Babymetal song. Here's the best live version on KZbin kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIuvi5aljL9-hJI . The live footage is from 2 shows but audio from one of them. After hearing this one, you won't be able to resist covering it.

on their last u.s / u.k. tour, they had american musician's backing them up as the kami band had other prior engagements. the drummer for that tour was anthony barone from shadow of intent. i don't know about hideki, but anthony does have drum cam video's on youtube. he is a beast on drums and has probably the fastest one hand snare rolls i've ever seen..as a drummer myself and seeing them twice this last tour, i was impressed by his playing. like i said, beast!!!!!! the other members were from the band galactic empire.

Yes Barone is good and fast. But the overall better drummer is Hideki. Also Barone left that band. He changes bands like underwear lol. Oh and don't even mention those Starwars guys. Boring and stiff like the studio musicians they are. Wouldn't be surprised if they use a backing track to fill in their play.

@@radioraffa both great drummers and i am not at all saying ones better than the other. I get the feeling he left soi to sign on full-time with amuse. @@actionheroes2860 Oh he is a great drummer too. Yeah wonder what will be their next step since this year was a wash. But since the end of 2017 they have been putting the band to the back no real kami band solos anymore lately either. Even when they did the concert with both Kami bands together. They did a big intro about them coming together and then when you watch the video there's hardly any camera time on them and they are far in the back. I enjoy Babymetal and the girls are super talented. But in reality if they did not have a live band behind them... we probably would not be talking about them today.

@@radioraffa if nothing else...I don't think Koba-metal would approve sub-par musicians to back HIS BABYMETAL. Say what you want, and you're of course allowed your own opinion, but in their own right those guys are good enough for Koba-metal to let them play for BABYMETAL.......

Headbanger is a song about a girl going to her first metal concert on her 15th birthday and her decision to treasure that moment. Actually it is a play of words, in the japanese version it is called Headbangya!!, being a _bangya_ how they called the girls that followed the _visual kei_ genre of japanese metal. So a good translation should be _Headbanger groupie_ or something like this, you get the idea. That interlude were you thought it was a building up it was an interaction section. Babymetal is born from the japanese idol culture, and that's how they call the sections were the girls cheer the audience and make them interact and be part of the show. That's one of the things that make Babymetal a bit different in the metal scene, but that's what they are. Babymetal has 42 or 43 songs and all of them are so good. But sadly here in KZbin there is few stuff that can be reacted to. They block everything on reactions save two shows, Legend 1997 (2013) and Budokan Black and Red Nights (2014), and some of the official channel videos. That means we are losing a lot of good, and it is really hard to do reactions that are not from the old first album (second is 2016, third is 2019). The people at the reactions channel on Babymetal Discord made a list to help reactors get the best versions they agreed for every song, but they have to be put out of KZbin. What some reactors that want to do this stuff do is to put a placeholder video here and upload the reaction on another platform (f.ex. kzbin.info/www/bejne/joKcY2mbeteDfK8), or synchronize the video with the viewer so it can be watched in another window (f.ex. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZu4pWWpqtyYlZI ). I think you still have a good bunch of songs doable in KZbin, but please do not react to compilation videos. If you have to start doing that stuff please consider doing songs from the list. btw this is it: docs.google.com/document/d/1DqPsavocgGvCyZfUHvrkgJ5KZMaMkmMgjy2UxNNG96E/edit# And yeah, Babymetal makes you joyful and be metal as fuck at the same time. That's what it has. I hadn't seen anyone in any reaction video to notice Su's signal, it is crazy. Thank you for the video and the insight.

Did you see Moa saving the mic at 10:05 ? Also these Budokan shows were 2 night thing and this was from Black Night. In Red Night show during Headbanger Yui fell off the stage and didnt join for the rest of the song, but she was up there again for the next song. And in Black Night during the last song Moa tripped and hurt her leg quite badly and you can see her pained expression, but she kept going like a champ. Bad luck during both shows for both of them but they are awesome and they kept the show going no matter what.

"Headobangyaaaa!!!!" Yay! More BABYMETAL! Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Notice the 5 each of.. e ..r ..! Add to 15, the age of the girl in the song! Lol) I love Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! My fav performance of it would be the Legend 1997 one, if only because it shows that wonderful crowd participation sooo well! And the pikachu.... That hand signal is more than likely Su telling a tech that the volume in her IEM needs to be adjusted. There's an interview (and I believe someone posted it in the comments) where Koba-metal talks about how, over time and throughout their many shows and tours, the girls learned to use their IEM to its full advantage (i.e. saying things like 'for this song, its easier to dance if the drums are louder in the mix'), and that it was astonishing to him that girls in their teens could do (all learned and developed on their own together) what seasoned professionals could not. Mad props to the sheer level of dedication and top-notch professionalism of our Royal Girls! Looking forward to the mystery drum cover! Gonna recommend my current fav Yava (ska metal) and my recent fav Awadama Fever (grindy music and super cute vocals and choreo). Kitsune dao! \m/

Here is a Babymetal KAMI BAND Drum solos video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYHMd6qjhNmFkLc Babymetal spare drummer Yuya Maeta is also awesome: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5C5YYKgbZuUja8 He plays many styles like Fusion, Jazz ,Rock, J-Pop, Funk, etc, and some really kick-ass metal too as I got to experience in 2014 attending my first of many BABYMETAL live performances. He also has has an amazingly good Fusion/Jazz band called Kari Band with BM bassist BOH and BM guitarist Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and sometimes guest artists. He plays in other bands too, teach and does session work. He tends to add a little bit of interpretation to his playing while Aoyama Hideki is almost inhumanly precise in his playing. And you already know Anthony Barone, the awesome drummer in BabyMetal's new US-based Kami-Band (sometimes called "the Kamis of the West" by fans) that in recent years have started to fill in for the original Japanese Kami-Band when needed for concerts in the US and Europe.

No:1 - Have you spotted Pikachu in the crowd? Headbanger is about a 15 years old girl going to her first Metal concert. Yui Metal (La Cigale, Paris July 1) and Moa Metal (Live Music Hall, Cologne July 3) sang this song for their 15th birthday during World Tour 2014. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXKydKynbtCngK8 (Clip) Su Metal changed the lyrics from 15 to 20 for her 20th birthday (See Jun 28 live broadcast). Edit: Moa Metal again sang this for her 20th birthday at her hometown of Nagoya. BABYMETAL ARISES - BEYOND THE MOON LEGEND M streamable.com/a8r1e9 From Rick Wagner: There's no footage, but both Yui and Moa took the lead on 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!!!' a second time in Japan to celebrate their 15th birthdays. Yui at APOCRYPHA - Y on July 21st, 2014, and Moa at APOCRYPHA - M later that same day. imgur.com/a/NOoZ9RL Commentary from BabyMetal for this song original MVs: Headbanger kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpundISimpKMecU Edit: (Original MV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHrdg5J5obl4brs) This is the MV where it shows where is neck brace (corset) come from in their lore. A tribute to Yoshiki of X-Japan where he is wears a corset after too much headbanging. pbs.twimg.com/media/CaJJbfyUsAAZ3lP.jpg Directed by Hidenobu Tanabe (田辺秀伸), who would be named Best Director of that year (2012) at the Space Shower Music Video Awards. It narrated a story of a 15-year-old girl who found a legendary neck corset in a mysterious box that fell upon her from above. According to Yui Metal, the members of the band wore their heaviest makeup for the "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" music video, while Moa Metal felt the fake eyelashes used were pulling down on her eyelids.
