I doubt they'll be turning R5-D4 into an IG droid - he's been a staple of Star Wars toy lines for decades. I think they may be about to canonise the "Attack R5-D4" model that they made in the mid-90s, however, which contained a rocket launcher. Also, it is canon (as per a 2017 short story) that he DID fake a blown his motorvator on purpose, although it was because R2-D4 had told him about his mission, however.
