It's strange. I've never cared too much about the lyrics in songs. I mean they are important, but in a good song the lyrics can be gibberish and still sound good. Vocals are kinda one instrument among others, but I must admit that although I always loved this song, knowing the lyrics really elevates it to another level. I never could understand what Jari was screaming in the live shows until now. Now the song makes complete sense and it's just... Beyond incredible.

More than a breakup song (like some people are writing) it sounds to me that this record is more about losing someone dear (death), be it a lover (as some other songs trough the catalogue would suggest) or a friend/family member... Wintersun lyrics are really strange, so archetypal and primordial yet so profound, like an eternal story with no begining and end, but only depth. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but the ability to combine music and lyrics into perfect harmony and feeling is really rare.

I have a hypothesis, which is likely wrong: Time II is different stages of Love and grief. 1. "The Way of the Fire" is where the love is flourishing with fiery passion. 2. "One With The Shadows" is where the love is fading away and he's bargaining. 3. "Storm" is the breakup and he's filled with rage 4. "Silver Leaves" is acceptance and/or depression (even perhaps being suicidal).

What i am speculating during this whole time 2 phase of wintersun, with the new lyrics emerging from Time 2 is how the story is forming throughout both time 1 and 2, since its a concept album Lyrics on Sons refering to "thought it was you who would save the sun" probs refering to the way of the fire and one with the shadows, where the sun (metaphorically) dies. And later in Sons "... revealing that this land will Die" refering to Storm and probs Silver leaves. The song Time (and darkness and frost) also serves as a premonition to Storm "Leave now for a while before the Storm awakens" etc etc. There are layers to this, and not just in the music

Something that worries me about the studio versions is the lack of "room" in the drums, it sounds a bit dry and fake compared to this video with "live" drums that make it sound huge. But I guess it's the compromise this album needs when there is so much going on all the time. I'm sure I will love it either way.

Jari just doesn't know how to mix drums too well. At least yet. He doesn't have too much direct experience with drummers from the tech side. I am sure the isolated drum tracks sound great, though, just like Time 1.

Regarding the release of Time II: One thing that I don't understand is, Jari claimed that he could finish Time II because he found "the right sound" for the album, arguing that it was difficult to find a guitar sound to fit both slow and fast songs, and he commented that Fortin Nameless plugin was the key... but we have seen Wintersun using the same plugin years ago (2:10)...

@@thegoblonoid This. If you compare the sound of Time II and Time I as it was in 2012 it's a complete overhaul of the soundscape, not just the guitars. In Time II (and Time I 2.0) you can actually hear clearly its different elements, the drums, the bass, the guitars, the orchestrations and the vocals. Time I used to sound like certain elements were overwhelmed by the others and the sound was overall pretty flat.

The song itself is wonderful, but I wonder why Kai Hahto rated it as the hardest one to play in the latest Wintersun Q&A. Based on the drum clips, it seems much easier than Sons of Winter and Stars. Maybe Kai plays it differently than Heikki.

My guess would be that Storm is a lot more constant than Sons. Sons changes its rhythm up a few times, giving Kai’s legs a short break here and there. Storm is a lot more full-on, going from solid sections of constant double bass into more double bass but in more structured bursts. And although Sons has its own off-beat accented moments, Storm has sections that have a few more. Maybe Kai could be talking about Storm being the hardest one to get right? Listening back, Heikki and Kai both play it pretty similarly 🤔 and remember we are also missing 4 minutes of this song that they have never played live, and that Jari has recently called “a surprise.” We also have info from Kai that Storm has a crazy violin section, which we don’t hear in this version. So my guess is, the missing 4 minutes contains a crazy violin section, along with some of the hardest drums Kai’s had to play… I’m looking forward to finding out!

​@Jairon_Junior he's said in a few interviews over the years it's the best song he's written. And that he showed one of his mates who only like black metal, and his mate started crying saying it was the most beautiful music. It's an oriental ballad with beautiful melodies. Even when he was hyping Loneliness before the forest seasons came out, he said "it's similar to Silver Leaves, but not as beautiful".

The part with jari singing at 6:50 is not really in sync with the song, feels a bit weird. There's something that bugs me more tho: from the track list, the song is 12:15 long, and that doesn't even count Ominous Clouds (2:22), which is supposed to be the intro...there is a big part of the song they never played, apparently?

Yeah he sings it a little bit off… I actually cut that into 3 pieces and each one’s been sped up or slowed down by about 4% to make them fit better. But I stopped short of cutting up every line, just didn’t have the time! You can see that some lines are perfectly in sync and others just aren’t. I put it down to Jari giving it a dramatic flair for the video! And yes I had that same thought about Storm’s length!! We always thought the guitar and piano intro was Ominous Clouds but it can’t be. I’m guessing there’s some more instrumental padding to finish out the album track, like at the end of the original version of Time. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Guess we’ll find out.
