Magnus is just so classy. He "has other plans" and won't play in the Tata Steel, but really I think he just doesn't want to be forced to destroy Ding Liren in a classical game. I think he wants to give Ding the chance of maintaining his dignity while he holds the Classical Champion title. Imagine how it would feel for Ding to play Magnus in a classical game. I'm sure Ding would feel massive Imposter Syndrome. And Magnus is sparing him from that.
