In Columbo's world, it's perfectly okay to grab a free meal or a snack, courtesy of a murder suspect. He does this all of the time, whether a full meal, as seen here, or a bagel, some caviar, or cheese as seen in other episodes. But when he's meeting at a restaurant with non-suspects to obtain information, he insists on billing his department.

It's one of his sly traits. He uses it as a way to antagonise the suspects. If you're in his sights, he does everything he can to rile you up, but if he thinks you're innocent, he's the kindest, most considerate detective you'll ever meet.

I find it interesting when Colombo eats at a fancy restaurant where the bill for his meal will be well over $100. I mean who's paying? If it is the other person, it would be considered a gift which at that level would be illegal for him to accept. If it at the cities expense, it would be rejected as too extravagant. If it is at his own expense, he would be broke since he said himself that he made about $15,000/year. Just one of those details he was famous for noticing.

@@r0bw00d I've watched every episode of Colombo and he is often included in dinners at restaurants where the bill for his meal would exceed the amount allowed. He has also accepted gifts where the item itself is illegal (cuban cigars are one that comes to mind). However, for the purpose of the show, these are ignored or made light of. Columbus in the 50’s was never more than 10 minutes partly because of programming. There’s hardware and software. The 50’s TVs were mostly hardware and too small so they couldn’t hold longer shows inside them. Nowadays the software programming and larger memory with teamwork reaching out to you allows you to watch all sizes due to the chips and LEDs and Motorola involvement. They had to rely on Central Vacuum Theory or other theories like that. The Central Vacuum Theory and 100% basis of operation was a Catholic Ray Tube or CRT. It took up the whole set leaving almost no room for shows longer than 10 minutes or anything else and was very heavy. The circuitry and transistors with programming makes the difference to make an overall racism free product. The primary transistor is the BJT and FET is the modern version of transistor. The types of BJT are NPN and PNP transistors. Dynamism vs placidity. The FET is a unipolar device, which means that it is made using either p-type or n-type material as main substrate. It’s a racist free product in all respects. The jury convicted Chowvin on all 4 counts of racism. That should tell you something. 1619 BLM The proof is in the pudding.

Ah the arrogance. He talks to Columbo like he was the boss. He congratulates him for the report and he tells him to go by the book and not make a stupid mistake that will destroy the case. How can you talk to anybody like that? And he cuts him off every time he tries to finish an idea.

HoldenNY22 ... all Columbo episodes are old now really; this one is approaching 30 years ago whereas the earliest series was ~50 years ago.

My father was a doctor; in the 1970s he used to smoke in his consulting room in between seeing patients. In these COVID-19 times you can only you see your doctor by video. Unbelievable!

@@ferretcatcher2377 - I have seen doctors in person. The ones I have seen all do a temperature check and often ask a lot of Questions to see if you have COVID or did something that could give you COVID- like say traveling out of State.
