"Hangover" wannabe. I want my $8.75 back. I should've paid and watched Inception again and then slipped in to watch this thing for free.

I feel like just because the French version was more "biting" as one of them said, they sort of disregard the whole social commentary of the movie. I first saw this movie when I was 11 in 2011 (I think), and I remember really liking it for some reason. Obviously being 11 I laughed at the dumb jokes, but I liked it and watched it even more than many similar movies that were out during the time. Being a few years older and slightly more educated now, I can appreciate the themes of the movie and how they actually influenced my world view. I feel like the last guys statement at the end of the video about the theme of the movie being "don't laugh at these idiots" is an extreme simplification of the point of the story. The main character played by Paul Rudd is coaxed into acting in ways that contradict his ethical views of right and wrong by a rich and powerful executive of the corporation he works for. Because a man who has almost complete control over the direction of his career asks him to do something which he and those he associates with find morally reprehensible, he feels pressure to attend the dinner and go against his moral compass. Now I'm not saying the film is without flaws whatsoever, but I do think it's a very good vehicle (which is also easily consumable due to it's comedic content) to get a person thinking about the possible downsides of a corporate structure where individuals hold great power over others financial stability, especially to those less educated on the subject such as a preteen or teenager. To me, this film is similar to office space in terms of themes (although obviously dinner for schmucks is not nearly as good of a film as office space).

I wasn't going to see it until it was released to Blu Ray, but everyone's opinion is interesting enough that I might see it in a theater [although I'll see the Le Dîner de Cons first].

I love how Christie says the original is supposed to be a satire about "societal pretensions," while mentioning Caesar awards and calling the new version not intelligently funny.

@danophile07 i know what u mean, it didnt expect it to be this funny, like its really hilarious, me and my mates were laughing the entire time, but i think theres alot of jokes alot of people didnt get, like the nelson mandella/morgan freeman ones and most of the ones during barry's speech at the dinner which is basically just incorrect facts, me and my friend thought they were hilarious, but i didnt hear alot of other laughter. but yeah i loved it too,

@TrueAgendaSetter And the original, French title, Le Diner De Cons, translates to the The Dinner of Idiots, or as it was titled in Italy, "La cena dei cretini" (The Supper of the Cretins [or stupid]" "The Dinner Game" was the politcally correct, sanitized version for sensitive, U.S. audiences.

Cenk could you please watch the original first sometime? I actually get it that it is interesting to have an unbiased, free of comparison, point of view too. But I wonder what Cenk would think of these remakes. Seems like he really only watches American movies. Having something else on his frame of reference would be good.
@XxSayrosxX14 жыл бұрын
It's the first time I think that I agree 100% with Christy, probably 'cause we both saw the original French movie, which is indeed a helluva lot better than this kiddie version they put out where Paul is the nice guy being forced into the corporate little dinner game they have when he's supposed to be an elitist corporate asshole who eventually gets a kick out of finding morons for his dinner game and eventually grows fond of the idiot. It works much better in the original than this one.

I understand everyone has opinions, but I think there's an obvious pattern with Christy. She's the stereotypical "artsy" critic. From time to time she makes great points. However it seems like we can't go one review without her spending a couple minutes showing off her knowledge about things that have nothing to do with the topic. And can we stop with the "American remakes are evil" meme? They're not as comparable as sequels. Most Americans don't know of the original. That's the point.
@heyitswillz14 жыл бұрын
Christie is always comparing movies to their European counterparts instead of actually reviewing them for what they are. She should try actually focusing on the movie for once.
