It would've been cool if it was more like a 'And then there were None' scenario where you and the other dinner guests are being off'd one by one and you have to solve puzzles both to survive the traps and to figure out what's actually going. @@JargonMadjin that little weird poem clues you in a bit "Mirror mirror on the wall. If she is a clone I'm guessing the mirror may send her back to the original, or at least into the memories of the original. But it wasn't done well here, there's no confusion or inner dialogue to give us exposition, just that 1 poem that you can easily bypass. Whatever the case is I sorta like it but feel like this is a case of too many convoluted ideas for a basic predictable plot they aren't creative enough to write (like game play came first. Plot second). This is like if RE: Village was crossed over with E.L. James making a bdsm sci-fi horror fanfic of Agatha Christie's Then There Were None.

It's weird, you can see a Frankenstein's monster sort of ideas in what they're trying to do thanks to seeing it from other games but they aren't investing in explaining it in the games narrative or environment. I get the feeling we're going into a Lily's Well situation where technically you're not restarting the level you're just another clone who has retained some memories from the last one. I think the main problem with this demo is that it throws you into the deep end. It places you after when you should know that there's an other world mirror mechanic ala Silent Hill Origins, thus confusing players about what they need to do if they get the safe combination, but can't find the safe. Not everything is interactable, many of the doors don't even have any form of interaction to them, so they may not even think about going up to the mirror and interacting with it. It also throws you into a timed section with no real explanation as well with such a short time limit that it's going to become necessary to do at least two playthroughs at a minimum to get through everything. The game designer may know where to go and how it all makes sense, and in their own playthrough can easily complete that section within the requisite ten minutes, but the player definitely doesn't and won't be able to. That's just bad game design right there. I get that they probably wanted to do something like Resident Evil's timed self destruct sections, but the problem is that Resident Evil typically allows you to explore the map first, thus allowing the player to figure out where they'll need to go once the countdown begins since they ran across the end goal early on in their initial exploration. They also don't throw a bunch of BS puzzles/item finding/exploration right at the end where you're going to need to come to a grinding halt and try to figure out how to progress which may eat up precious finite minutes. If this was going to be how they were going to try and reel people in with their game when the full release came out, they made some very questionable and outright terrible decisions.

I'm confused. Every dial combination lock I've ever used has worked by setting the dial TO those numbers in sequence. It usually goes: > turn dial right twice past the first #, then stop on the third time it gets to the # > turn dial left once past the second #, then stop on the second time it gets to the next # > turn dial right and stop on the last # Do locks that work like how John first tried it even exist, and maybe I've just never seen one of them? He seemed so sure in that moment and I'm over here like: ??? I feel like this has come up in other games he's played too

All the combination locks I've used made you go right left right, but I think they were inconsistent about how you input the first number. I don't think any I used made you go twice past it. As for whether you turn the number of notches or turn to the number that's more a matter of how you write the combination down than how the lock works, but I've always had it written as turn to a number.

The worst part about tank controls is when you're walking in a direction, the camera shifts, and the new perspective after the shift forces whatever direction you were holding to spin your character around in a different direction. I replayed Code Veronica X recently and it is /the/ most infuriating thing. Also Claire handles like a bus with vending machines instead of human passengers, which just makes it even worse.
@rosaunolalintino2 жыл бұрын
I saw Code Veronica on sale for like $4 and I was gonna buy it but I ended up not doing it because I don't think I have the patience to deal with tank controls and fixed camera angles lol.
@Evan_Schaefering2 жыл бұрын
Are you sure you were using tank controls? Your character turning in response to a camera angle change is the exact opposite of how tank controls actually work. In tank controls, turning your character is completely independent of camera angles and up always moves you in the direction the character is facing. In fact, avoiding the problem you mentioned is exactly why tank controls were used in all of the classic survival horror games. The probelm you had sounds like how 3D controls respond to shifting fixed camera angles. John even mentions it around 6:41 in this video.
@Phantom-kc9ly2 жыл бұрын

Exactly. When you get a safe or a combo lock, they don't tell you how many points to turn, because they can just directly tell you the number on the dial to move to.
@aliveslice2 жыл бұрын
Idk what it's like irl but in games it's often the number of turns, not literal numbers. This seems "simplified". Maybe different types of locks. Maybe old vs new type of lock, zoomer moment (jk I'm not sure myself but John will have a fun time reading the safe related comments)
@BrianWhitmarsh2 жыл бұрын
@@aliveslice If the lock doesn't have numbers on the ticks, then maybe that makes sense. But in real life, if the first number is 17 and the next spot is 10 ticks to the left, you would just say turn to 7. I'm GenX so maybe there are new locks, but in junior high and high school, that's how all of our lockers worked (as well as the occasional home safe).

Just use the numbers like here, what does John mean "did this person not know how safes work"??? If I write 3-10-5 I'm not going to at all think people will translate that to whatever John did first. That's like writing a riddle about a cat and expecting them to think about a boat? I use those little combination locks for my bags when traveling, I'm not expecting someone who knows the password to be 926 to go "oh it's 752". Maybe I'm just a dumb Brit, I dunno.
