I swear, when John tried to sneak downstairs to go answer the door I was literally loudly whispering "NO! DONT! THE POLICE ARE THERE! YOU HAVE TO WAIT!" He was literally a second away from getting killed cuz if you get too close to the room he's in, he'll charge out and kill you. The police literally did save him there. 😂 Also, for those that don't know. If he'd gone into the parents room after the guy disappeared, he would have seen that the rooms window is open showing that he escaped through there. Another thing, the desk door wasn't open when he left to eat, but when you come back after, the desk door is open. Last one being the back door left opened after seeing the silhouette walking upstairs while eating. This game has some pretty cool little details that could easily be missed. The second episode does too. I hope he'll get to see them.

this game creeps me out because it's so realistic, especially with things like intruders. the creepiest is just not knowing his motivation. did he think no one was home? was he already watching the house? why did he go back outside? Was he after the kid? no idea, it's so unsettling
@Lucifronz
@Lucifronz 2 жыл бұрын
Well he certainly knew someone was home. It's quite possible he knew the parents were gone, as well. He specifically breaks into the house to get you and when he spots you from the blinds, he doesn't go away and attacks you. He's after _you._ When you come downstairs when Paula's ringing the doorbell he prepares to ambush you, meaning he's willing to risk getting caught just to lure you into a trap, which shows he's ballsy. On top of the fact that he scopes you out while there's still daylight out and isn't very subtle about lurking around the house, even breaking a window to force his way in, which means he's, at the least, more enticed by the hunt than he is afraid of getting caught by anyone.

@@connectyours I think it's more likely they're inspired by stories told on message boards like Reddit or 4Chan, judging by how they frame it. The creator may have either chosen that stylistically or may actually be borrowing these stories for their own purposes, most likely (but not necessarily) getting permission first. Kravin missed that detail when he played the game so I got mildly annoyed when he thought he just *had* to die. No, the game specifically tells you that's not the correct ending. They're all survivable, the deaths are added for tension. And done quite brilliantly, too.

I also wondered if it was in case the glass breaking had woken the person up. Follow it with a doorbell and some people would mistakenly think the noise that had woken them had actually been a doorbell as well and they misheard or imagined the glass. If you were in a deep enough sleep when you get suddenly awakened it can be disorienting and you’d possibly fall for a bait and switch like that.

@geebeepman
@geebeepman 2 жыл бұрын
@@Fuzzysea693 it depends on what place/country you're from. I've seen door peepholes fairly in western movies so it might be common there but they're barely a thing in ours and we often use window blinds instead; and its not that we really need them because a lot of houses here for protection are often surrounded by tall cement walls and metal gates(sometimes even have barbed wires or broken glass on top which I think is a bit overkill). ofc we're still reminded since we were kids to at least call out before opening even if we're almost certain who's on the other side just to be safe. but like you said, nowadays if our supposedly expected guest texts us that they're outside, people often just don't care to check anymore which could be dangerous since there've been cases every now and then being reported in the local news(or true crime documentaries) of robbery, kidnappings or killings that started from simply not checking who's really on the other side. anyway, hotel rooms would be the first thing that comes to mind when I think of door peepholes since that is where I've seen them the most and I'm fairly sure that at least the people that I know and have visited their homes don't have them.

@@matthewboyajian9593 A clean install is always the simplest fix. Uninstall the entire game and delete the folders for the game from your system. Always make a backup of your installation file before modding beyond the initial cleanup phase. It will save you a lot of trouble in the future. Also, it's not ideal, but testing after *every* mod you install will enable you to quickly identify the conflicting mods if the game refuses to run. If you don't want to scrap your installation folder for some reason, you _could_ always move the game folder elsewhere and reinstall, then drag over the files you needed into the old folder, delete the rest and put the old folder back in its place. But that really depends upon you knowing the files you need and probably isn't a helpful fix for most problems.

this is a good game! the grainy filter, detailing in the sky, cars driving by, and general atmospheric design give it this really cozy nostalgic vibe that's probably relatable for a lot of people--and even if it doesn't remind you of your childhood specifically, it feels enough like a childhood that SOMEONE would have to be immersive and realistic. the pacing is super effective, and it gets legitimately unnerving and tense without a comically exaggerated plot or complicated mechanics. it really does feel like a recollection of something that happened to someone, and even if it's not a true story, it's pretty damn close to real experiences people have had with near-kidnappings or home invasions as a kid. (my favorite detail is actually that the mom refers to herself in third person when she's comforting the kid. i feel like it's pretty common for parents to revert back to the third person they used when babytalking their toddler even when their kid is older if they're scared enough 4 the kid. that one hit on some Childhood Memories for me because it's such human-feeling dialogue)

If I do remember it right, the dev does ask people to tell him their story. And he adds a lil bit of something to add to the horror. But just what's needed. Nothing to kill the original story.

That was pretty neat! Very simple but effective at creating an unsettling atmosphere, especially considering the length of the game. I'd like to think that things like the person walking up the stairs would be either a case of paranoia or something the narrator added in after the fact (since it kind of spoofed reddit lmao), which frankly makes me excited to see if we get some unreliable narrators in the other episodes!

As insanely creepy as the game is, I really do wonder why you see the intruder go upstairs, only for him to... apparently go back outside and then go in again. ._. I'm guessing the "Mom's so sorry" text was an awkward translation. I noticed a lot of small errors throughout the game that makes me think English wasn't their first language, anyway. Still, this is an extremely solid game for atmosphere and all its small and creepy occurrences.

I thought napping after school was the norm for teens, just me? 😂 I was dead to the world for at least 3 hours after school, back in the day. The kind of nap that you wake up from and literally feel like you're trying to move in quick sand, because your body is so weak.

Something charming about John's commentary on teenagers, old people, and everyone else. It is near always is the opposite of what I see in my own life. Half the teenagers I know love to be lazy and nap all the time, while many of the old people I know are workaholics who have to be told to rest from time to time. I also will observe that most teenagers around me have the worst sense of home security, flinging open the door to anyone without even checking the peephole, leaving doors and windows unlocked and often open. Then, as if just to screw with my mind, they so often are terrified of the dark, reluctant to go out to do even minor things like step out into the yard for a moment without plenty of lighting. What a wild world we live in.

So John, this game, these stories, are actual real life stories that people reached out to the dev when the dev was asking for people to turn their survivor stories into a game experience, so these are all real survivor stories. Obviously some things are included for a "bad end" route, or etc, to make an experience more like a game and less like a walking simulator with a completely linear story, but yeah.
