If they rocked a little bit harder, and wrote their own songs, they might have been a truly influential group. They were a power trio (guitar, bass and drums), which was a pretty new concept to music when they started in 1965. Unfortunately, they were controlled by the bosses at Reprise Records, who did not let them get a sound away from light pop. Thus, their talents weren't fully realized. So, by 1966-67 the psychedelic sounds of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience took over. And DD&B faded away. However, it's great to see this video of the trio in their prime.

@@samburkes7552 YES TRUE! Other than the performance, this song is so bad, the if it was presented to David Cassidy to do as a Partridge Family song, you know what he would have told them. By the way: I'm friends with Denny Tedesco.

@Joe Miano What are your sources on them hitting the same mountain? The accidents were very different from each other because Dolly Sinatra wasn’t a licensed pilot.

That is what I recall too and apparently Dolly S was on a plane to Las Vegas for a special trip organized by her son. She didn't get on with Frank's new wife

A lot of the Motown hits - supposedly James Jamerson played bass on those tracks - he was a member of the Motown recording studio house band known as the Funk Brothers - in reality many of those bass parts were played by Dino but credited to Jamerson -

Most groups sounded just like the record back then because they used very few digital enhancements on the recording. Now the computer and several digital enhancement make the singers sound much better than they actually are. That is why singers today often don't like to sing live.

@@jackanthony976 Most singers today can't sing, but what I'm confused about is how that group was able to sing without using microphones.

I would lust after even cheap sears catalogue guitars that I never could afford. These dudes had the whole thing set up and given to them! The best of everything and appeared on Ed Sullivan! Not because of pure talent. Rich and famous Hollywood families pushed and financed the whole show for their early teen kids……while many REAL musicians struggled.
