Dino Gear Box removal part 1.

A little film on how to remove the gearbox from a two litre FIAT Dino . It’s in for a gearbox rebuild so let’s make a couple of films about the process.

Thank you. It’s not a bad job especially with a ramp, but I have done it without a ramp on the floor so it is possible.

Looking forward to the next video on what was causing the noisy gearbox. Mine is a bit noisy as well. I suspect the prime shaft bearing. Reverse is sometimes a bit fiddly also… so I’m really curious about your next video.

On the 2 litre coupe the exhaust is much closer to the gearbox. The reputable expert who did the rebuild cut the exhaust pipes for easier removal of the 'box and welded them together after re-installation. Not sure if that's the proper way, though. Happy Holidays!

The standard design of exhaust on coupe and spider should not cause any clearance problems with the removal of the gearbox. But without actually seeing the car I can’t comment further about whether this was an issue with your coupe. It probably was because of some other issues encountered with the job ? If it’s all fixed and functioning correctly best not to worry about it. Happy Christmas and thank you for your support !

Professionals having the right tools makes it so much easier. Will it be tricky refitting the bolts that are tucked away though?

It’s a job that I have done many times before so it’s not too bad. A lot easier than working on some of the more modern stuff that I used to do with the old garage. You also feel like it’s worth the effort with the old cars and that they sort of deserve it !

Do you actually align differential and gearbox? I am just asking as I had a serious misalignment between gearbox and differential after I changed my gearbox rubber mounts. I had to adjust the level with some washers.

The 2000 and 2400 have just one mount and if of good quality should give no alignment issues. For many years the mount was not available and some dubious fixes have been made. I guess you are referring to your Alfa Romeo ?
