As far as I know it is uncommon for a gearbox on a road car to have an oil pump. But the FIAT Dino 2000 does. So I thought it would be a good idea to have a look at it and see how it operates.
This is the FIAT gearbox which is a development of the FIAT 2300 four speed unit. It is completely different to the ZF unit fitted to the FIAT Dino 2400 , just thought I should be clear on that to avoid confusion. Now some racing cars have oil pumps fitted to the gearbox and the differential but I am sure that they are used to circulate the oil for cooling often through an oil cooler. So not for oil delivery under pressure. Not a very exciting subject but it could be useful to get a better understanding of this FIAT Dino feature another example of just how special and important this car was .

Well thank you for saying so but I’m not sure that this one is for many people ! I made it as it is what I am working on and I bet it’s the only video on this subject in the entire universe and beyond ! So now you know more than you ever wanted to about FIAT gearboxes ! Thankfully I can manage to make conversation about other things so hopefully I’m not the worst person to be stuck talking to in the kitchen at parties !

My '92 NSX and my 2009 E92 M3 both have oil pumps in the transmission, interestingly enough!

Great insight as usual. More complex than I thought...how does it compare to the ZF in the 2400 rebuild wise?

Thank you. The 2400 ZF unit requires a process of shims for clearance so they have a reputation for being awkward to work on. They are also very strong so rarely need work which is why I have far less experience with them.
