Thank you very much for both comments, Thomas! Based on the reaction I'm getting, I think it's very likely that you will see more AARs like this. I wish I could do a poll to see how much interest there is in the blog idea. I don't think it would be too difficult to adapt many of my video scripts into blog posts, and there'd be room to include some ideas that might be hard to make into videos. I'm very glad you're interested, though, and I feel I am more likely to do it now.

Great AAR FloridaMan and an exciting game. Interesting to see how you made excellent use of the major/minor pairing. Also moving northwards is unusual for Turkey on the Versailles map, the more "natural" route is westwards through the Balkans and Med. I guess Italy was a fairly solid ally most of the time (except that sneaky move to the Aegean, which he later retracted) so this is a good example of choosing the right ally rather than the traditional direction. All in all a very good video, fluently spoken in your inimitable style with that faint hint of underlying irony. Well done!

Thanks, Gun. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Italy was indeed a pretty solid ally in this game. I think Italy/Turkey can work well for Turkey in the standard map, too, although the conventional thinking of the game would seem to be heavily against it forming. Most importantly, I wanted to release a Versailles AAR around the same time that I released the Versailles interview.

@@floridamandiplomacy - I just checked out the game and who was playing. There were some sharks in there, your ally Strategus amongst them. A thrilling game!

Dude this was awesome. Super cool variant, honestly seems more fun than the standard game (but also more stressful, so I guess there's that). Certainly WAY more possibilities for alliance combinations and the idea of "standard openings" seems basically impossible. Would love to see more.

Glad you enjoyed! I absolutely plan to make more variant videos (and especially Versailles, which is probably my favorite or at least my second favorite of the variants I've tried). I think Versailles is more fun than standard, a lot of the time, although for me, they're very close to each other in quality. I think you're pretty correct about "standard openings" going out the window. The other variant I really like on PlayDiplomacy right now is War in the Americas, so I might make a video on that map sometime after I finish releasing my videos on the game "Perigord."

Loved this video, but what do you think of maney making another video on the imperial diplomacy map? as well as being fun to play and watch, I wonder if it might be interristing to use the minor power rules to make the imperial diplomacy game more interristing?
@floridamandiplomacy Жыл бұрын
First of all, thank you! Second, we ran the Imperial Diplomacy game on VDiplomacy, which made running it easy. To have major and minor powers on that map would be pretty complicated (though I agree it would be fun). It would require someone to GM, and we'd also have to figure out how to run it while keeping who controls each minor power a secret initially (which is a big part of the point of minor powers in Versailles).

That's what I tend to ask myself, too. There are never any answers... I also try to ask myself how to get more people to like, but the only reliable method I've found is to get more people to watch the video.
