Watched Dino in Dublin with my best friend Glen in 2016. He died the next year. Knocked Around is for him. Mascis at His finest 💚

I love the contrast between J's soft vocals and the gritty, raw bass tone of Lou in the first part of the tune. A very tasteful choice that shows how much talent these guys have in the noble art of rock songwriting! The second section is totally epic too. Easily one of their latest best songs.

Song made me tear up, then the rock came and launched me. It's like a black and white cookie. I think there is a metaphor with the kid handing J his guitar. Something sad happened a long time ago, and then he got the guitar and was launched but he is still missing someone. This isn't a romantic song, it is more important than that, it is a profound love song.
@DuggyDugunder Жыл бұрын
Profound, for sure. J's talent has always been to craft a song somehow seems to dig into your own personal whatever. He's always vague and suggestive enough that the emotion is always about me or my experiences. edit: saw it live in Roppongi about 5 years ago, and I teared up.

I know who it is handing off the guitar, but it's the symbolism that matters. Or not.

+Josh Flanagan I couldn't have said it better. It has nothing to do with anything. And it's not a matter of funds because it they had pointed to cams somewhere else, the video could have been good. I don't know, the guys playing live, some reactions from the crowd, changing the slo-mo to something different once the song changes...

Here is a statement by O., the person who recorded the footage: "This song is one of my favorites from Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not. It is everything amazing about Dinosaur Jr.: soft yet hard with J's awesome sense of vocal melody and a heavy dose of guitar schralping! I shot the entire video live while on the most recent US tour, and in slow-mo and black and white to capture the way I see tour life. This is a very hardworking band - Dinosaur Jr. had no idea I was doing this, so what you see is very honest and all live, shot at many venues across the US with different types of cameras. "Knocked Around" is my take, and what I get from the song about being far away from family. The beginning of the video is my favorite section, with J's son Rory guitar teching for J onstage. Lou's sock dance/art is pretty rad, also. Thirty years after the start of this great band, they continue to release amazing albums - one right after the other."
