I met Dio after a concert, and we were the last in line. :) Every other group before us got about 20 minutes with the band, because we were the last group we ended up spending something like an hour and a half hanging out. One of the most amazing things is that a couple years later we got to meet him after a show again, and I kid you not, he remembered my name. Years later, and he remembered my name. That's just the kind of man that he was, he truly loved connecting with his fans. RIP Dio, the world is a darker place without you.
@drew65sep4 жыл бұрын
I had the privilege of meeting Ronnie as well. We always hung around tour buses after shows trying to meet the bands and possibly get an autograph or perhaps a concert tour t-shirt. Anyway, this particular time after the show (Dio with Dokken opening up), I just walked up and knocked on the bus' door...and who answered? The man himself. Dude was incredibly humble and approachable. Just "top-shelf." Just like what happened to yourself, Ronnie took the time to talk with us for over an hour. Real down to earth. It was our honor to get to chat with him for a bit...he is sorely missed.
@SEEININFRARED4 жыл бұрын
Dio had the uncanny ability to remember peoples names. If you got to meet him. You became his friend. And he never forgot his friends. I met him after a show in, believe it or not, Dennys. We sat for almost 3 hours just shooting the breeze. He actually thanked us for going to the show too. He saw our tee shirts when we were getting seated. The great thing was, that we got to meet Jimmy Bain, and Craig Goldie. Along with a bunch of his crew. They stopped to get a bite before they headed to the next gig. He left a lasting impression on me that I still cherish today. I didn't get to meet him again. But that had to feel awesome when he remembered you, brother. I'm sure you have fantastic memories.

Not only a GREAT singer......an unbelievably nice guy. Met him when my friend's band opened for him in Connecticut. He actually had his sound guys help us out during sound check, then stood in the wings and watched our whole show......and if that ain't enough, he stayed after his show for hours to hang out with fans.

He called once Ozzy a "clown" when he was in BS....Dio was a better singer, but Ozzy was the soul of BS
@jimshelby4065 жыл бұрын
metz ergenstein that doesn’t even begin to come close to the things both Ozzy & Sharon have said about Ronnie man. Ronnie bit his tongue for a very long time always taking the high road and actually giving Ozzy what little credit he deserved. But after awhile it just got to be ridiculous. Here we are some 30 years later and the only difference is that instead of Ozzy slandering Ronnie it’s done by idiots like you. Oh and by the way.... Ozzy is a fucking clown! Always has been and always will be and calling him the “soul” of Black Sabbath is a not only a joke it’s a big slap in the face to the actual souls of Black Sabbath and that’s Tony & Geezer.
@metzergenstein69805 жыл бұрын
@@jimshelby406 you got all wrong about what i did say, but it's ok...you think i don't like Dio, you're wrong, to me with Halford and Dickinson he is one of the best three voices of metal. Tell me what was BS with Tony and Geezer but without Ozz? Not even great singers like Martin, Hughes, even Gillan could bring back the success the original formation had. You can hate Ozz all you want, but truth is there is no Black Sabbath without him, at least, not at their best..
@jimshelby4065 жыл бұрын
metz ergenstein no I didn’t get it wrong... this was a reaction to a live recording of The Last in Line by Dio. Most people are commenting on the song or on Ronnie but not you. You come in and comment on a 39 year old remark that I Ronnie made while defending himself against all the idiotic and slanderous things Ozzy and his poor excuse for a human being wife had been making about him for months up to that point. A fact that you conveniently left out or more likely didn’t even know about. No shock there as most Ozzy fans don’t know that Ozzy doesn’t write music or lyrics himself and never really has. He has Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bob Daisley, Randy Rhodes, Jake E Lee and many others to thank for everything he’s ever done. His idea of writing is to go get wasted and go check to see what the guys came up with. You also probably have no idea that Ozzy & Sharon have taken credit for music & lyrics written by others and failed to pay these musicians what’s rightfully there’s. We!’re talking millions of dollars too. As far as singers that Sabbath have been successful with besides Ozzy... is there a reason you left Dio off the list?!? Could it be because of the success those Dio albums had and how easily they stack up against anything they had done before or is it because Ronnie has stood on his own two feet his whole career as opposed to Ozzy who had ride the cost tails of so many people to get where he is today? So much for your “without Ozzy Sabbath hasn’tdone anything great’ theory. So yeah I got what you were saying.

Ronnie James Dio was one of the most talented frontmen ever. His body of work is incredible. There's stuff on KZbin that he sang way back in the late 50s. His southern blues based rock with Elf is often overlooked, but also good. He was a beast in Rainbow and Black Sabbath, and you are becoming very familiar with his solo material. Roger Glover and Jon Lord of Deep Purple put together a rock opera in 1974 called "The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast" that featured a song called "Love Is All", sung by Dio. That song was a number one-hit in the Netherlands and Belgium for several weeks. He was an absolute treasure. I'm so glad I got to see him live before he passed.

I'm so glad you finally got to this tune. The one and only time I seen Dio live was Ozzfest 99. I got there just in time to hear this song (the last song of his set). Thank you.

I had the privilege of seeing Dio 5 times (including this tour). Amazing every time. Got to meet him after a show one time. Very gracious. Not only did he have an amazing voice, he had stunning vocal technique. Absolutely effortless. Without any formal training. Dio is the standard that can never, never, never, never be matched. When he walked on stage he grabbed the audience by the balls and said try to keep up, we're going to rock this place to the ground.
