Ronnie James Dio played the trumpet as young man. This gives him the ability to control his breathing giving him such a powerful vocal range. He is not screaming, he is using a combination of head voice and glottal compression to “ sing” and not lose his voice.. Rest In Peace Ronnie..
@luamoliveira3467 Жыл бұрын
I think differently, I think Dio uses his chest voice a lot combined with his mixed voice (where most vocal coaches highlight a lot in their analyzes regarding the way he distorts his voice), the point is that he had a control absurd vocal and that very rare singers have ever had, he is one of the rare vocalists that in my view and perhaps the only one that I know who had a very high level of vocal manipulation in all the ends of the voice, no one learned to understand and master with so much mastering his own vocal instrument like Dio did for years, it's clear how much he evolved as the years went by and always keeping himself at a high level by singing in very high keys, without losing the momentum of his performances; It's almost unbelievable for a vocalist to reach the age of 65 and reach such high notes with a certain ease, varying between A5 and B5 (a head/whistle voice combination, with such power and compression), his performance of Mob Rules in 2007 demonstrates a lot well that.

The entire song is basically an examination of the Biblical message of 'The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth.' Of how the ones no one expected much from are ultimately the ones the world will turn to when needed... the question is will they give into the temptation to be petty and hold a grudge against those who looked down on them, or will they rise above their persecutors and become true heroes! Will they stand over the shattered remains of their bullies and gloat about how the tables have turned or let it go and prove their worth? That's what Ronnie means when he asks, 'Are we evil or divine?' Are we as bad as they say we are or are we something more?

This is still metal today. The only thing that changed is that different sub-genres were invented. Look up the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal (an homage to the New Wave of British Heave Metal from the late 70's and early 80's), it's a bunch of new young bands who are heavily influenced by the sound of Maiden, Priest and Sabbath. Bands like Haunt, Visigoth, Ambush, Wolf, Lucifer, Traveller, Smoulder, my personal favorite though was Satan's Hallow but they broke up already. Also look into the New Wave of Thrash, young bands who are embracing the 80's Slayer/Megadeth/Metallica/Anthrax sound

I think, the reason why Robert Plant, Ian Gillan and espacially Ronny James reached this level is really, because in this time there was no other chance, it was the time of great voices, awesome songs the writing and the talent was more important than the production etc. they earned from this and as the time came and Abbey Roads etc. reached the level to do experimental productions, what floyd started with, it was like a holy grale that was open for them to make all what they got in their head and what they learnt in the years in the clubs etc. before possible. I really think this is the reason why they are on this high level! If I think of guitar player like Ritchie or Jimi Page, or Hendrix and the first time they were able to loob a riff, I can imagine what happened to them, because they played everything note by note before, they recoreded a whole album in one day, before, without any loob the thing was played from the beginning till the end, without faults, so next level loobs more space for performance and ideas! And then this trained awesome voices back than, especially DIO who ever worked on his voice and expression. It was really like a growing tree.

Lead singer Ronnie James Dio formed his solo band Dio in 1983... Prior to that, he was born Ronald James Padavona as an Italian-American on the East Coast. He changed his name to 'Dio' when he became a singer in the late 1950's and spent the 1960's singing in R&B/ do-wop groups. His Catholic upbringing left him resentful against the harsh religious rhetoric of the church... Around 1970, Ronnie Dio was introduced to the heavy rock genre of music w/ Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath... he formed his own heavy rock band Elf in 1971, and opened for Deep Purple in the 70's. In 1975, Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore quit the band and enlisted Ronnie Dio to become the singer of his new band Rainbow... he recorded 3 albums by 1978 before he was fired (Blackmore wanted Rainbow to go in a pop rock direction w/ new singers) In 1979, Ronnie Dio was offered a job by Black Sabbath to replace original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne... he brought a new vigor to Black Sabbath in 1980, but he left after 2 albums in 1982... Having a name for himself as a vocalist, he formed the band Dio. Dio released their first album 'Holy Diver' in 1983, and it became a gold-selling success... the 2nd album 'The last in line' sold platinum (1 million copies in the US) in 1984... Dio carried on w/ various members until 1991, when Ronnie James Dio was offered to sing for Black Sabbath again in 1992. However, that reconciliation only lasted 1 album ('Dehumanizer' in '92) before he quit in '93 and reformed Dio. Sadly, Dio spent the 90's decade w/ low popularity as heavy metal music was in decline for years... Dio persevered after 2000, and reconciled once again w/ members of Black Sabbath in 2006 to form the band Heaven & Hell. In 2009, Ronnie was diagnosed w/ stomach cancer... he went for treatment until he passed away in 2010 at age 67 (R.I.P.) Ronnie James Dio was recognized for popularizing the "devil's horns" gesture at concerts 🤘 He said was inspired by his superstitious Catholic grandmother, who used the gesture to ward off the 'evil eye'...

What a glorious time yo have been going to concerts. Late 70’s-late 80’s. Having seen this, you can now see that bands like Ratt, Motley Crue, Bon Jiovi , Def Leppard aren’t close to the same level. I think you’d like Badlands. Another great singer who was briefly in Black Sabbath like Dio was. Also, A great guitarist who was in Ozzy Osborne, Jake E Lee.

I saw him in the 80's live in Omaha. Fantastic concert! He was definitely one of the greatest ever. Not only talented but also a all around nice guy.

You NEED to listen to Rainbow singing the song Mistreated in Munich in 77. Dio’s best vocal performance and it’s insanely good!

Ronnie James Dio started out as a Do Wop singer. You can hear his band singing "Love Potion #9" on youtube among other things. He has a very interesting history.
