God what can I say? She's so amazing it's hard to describe. Her timbre, dynamics, control and phrasing are other worldly. I've heard them all, Striesand, cousin Whitney name 'em. Dionne just has something no one else has. Just listening to her can bring me to tears. I'm 67 in a few months. I remember her voice being the soundtrack of my life in the 60's. She hits me in the chest like a torpedo. Love you Dionne.

Gosh, when Dionne was young and in her prime here, she makes the hair on my skin rise. What a phenomenal, legendary gorgeous voice she had. Just wish she didn't smoke cigarettes which never helps the vocal cords. Anyway, her legacy is set forever. She was amazing !!!!

I know other singers did a great job with this song, but, imo, NOBODY DOES THIS LIKE MS. DIONNE! :-) And this is one of her best performances that I've seen captured on YT posts - Ms. D always seems to resonate with various European audiences, and they, especially with her Really, she makes the "Alfie" movie theme song into a superb operatic ballad - classic! :-) thx for posting!

Its because she took a break from college because she had the opprtunity to be mentored and introduced to Europe by Marlene Dietrich in 1962 at the start of her solo career with Burt Bacharach and Hal David. She was even called Black Pearl in France

Dionne is one of my favorites. She is so underrated as Diana, especially in their own community. They can take standards & love songs & bring out richness in them & yet give it a unique & proper soulful interpretation, where all cultures, generations, & races are spell bound. Her low resonance is just as good when she is high; that’s control & tonality & ability to follow music with a beautiful interpretation. Patti Labelle, etc. can’t sing this, so I wish others would recognize Dionne.
@skip0318904 жыл бұрын
I love both of them. Dionne more, though. Lol. But you're right. Colored people don't like them because they think they sound white. It's sad, pathetic and hateful too.

My god, I could simply die listening to this version of Alfie. I was already a huge fan of Warwick and Bacharach but I've never heard anything from their body of work that even remotely approaches the sublimity of this one live performance of the song. Warwick is so alive, vibrant and fully inhabiting (and in command of) the song that I truly feel I could expire from the exquisiteness. Thanks so much to whoever posted this. If only, if only these particular performances were available

Words cannot describe how much I love this performance... "Alfie" is such a well written song, and no other artist sung it in such a sensitive way as Dionne did in this particular performance. Its much better than her recorded version (that I have here at home). She just knew the right way to use her voice, giving each different parts, different intensity, different feelings, in such an inteligent and emotional way. Even Whitney (and I am a huge Whitney fan) never sung "Alfie" better than this.

@acousticshadow40326 жыл бұрын
No need of that because we get them all, and don't have to choose. Diana Krall is great in her own right. Like Dionne, DK has done stuff with her own brand name on it that will stand the test of time - and then some. Sheryl Crow doesn't deserve to be dissed here because she's not in the same crooner category. Apples/Oranges with Sheryl. To label either of them as "amateurish" is immature - ish.
