Great song! Dionne introduces it as her next single but as far as I know it was only ever a B side. It`s on her Love Songs cd compilation.

The way she belts and phrases seems always near the limit of her voice as if she's about to shout. A very dangerous and extraordinary technique! Love her so much!

Yes. Although this is the only song of hers that rhat she does that, I am aware of.

I still can’t believe 3:37-3:47 came out of a human mouth. Dionne is otherworldly in her power in the top notes of her voice.

The recorded version of this on the album is so raw. You can tell she was testing her limits. Beautifully done.

Dionne, this is my first time hearing this live performance of "I didn't mean to love you ". Shut the door! I really can not say which was better, this live performance or the recording. Both were done breathtakingly beautiful. This song showcases your fantastic vocal range. The highs and lows were done with effortless qualify. However, in this live performance, you went towards the end to notes that I never would have imaged you'd go. This performance was spectacular. Absolutely spectacular! Love you Dionne Warwick. Always have and yet do. One of America's true treasures.

Wow. Love Dionne, and these live tv posts really show her feeling, control, and power. And here, she pushes the delivery to the very edge. Cannot believe some of the risky vocals she made work, just because she felt it, and took the chance to make it real. It's a whole new aspect of her that is unrevealed in most of her original recordings (which I also love). This isn't the world's best song, but the performance puts it top of my playlist. Testament to live music talent. Many thanks, mezzoman.

She most definitely had the range she was trained as a gospel soprano growing up. She could sing right beside cissy in the upper register but as she aged and smoked her clarity began to decline but the range was intact for many years. Her voice was just powerful

Dionne Warwick is my Mentor (we have similar vocals) i have a little feathery reserve pitch in G#5 to E6 ... My limit vocal range. Shouting(yes) or Screaming(no!) for female vocals usually misconstrued as Celine Dion Nasal register. Not with Miss Warwick! Diaphragm Registers All the Way! Mot even Headtones.

Sunday morning waking up and touching you You’re always warm at 9 a.m Pillows close and I can feel you wanting me Then I go back to sleep again I didn’t mean to love you And I never meant to care But I guess I never noticed Just how often you were there Walking on and talking 'till the sun went down You kept me warm with just your eyes Seems that all we wanted, just came naturally We never even had to try I didn't mean to love you Didn't want to let it show No I never meant to tell you I'm just too proud to let you know Bring back the days when we could talk away our troubles Don't tell me things have changed so much Please take the time you know it's not so hard to do Unless there's nothing left to say I guess there's nothing left to say No I didn’t mean to love I didn’t want to let it show I never meant to tell you I’m just to proud to let you know I didn’t mean no I didn’t mean to need you I didn’t want to cry No I never meant to loose you Oh I never meant goodbye No never meant goodbye No NO I didn’t mean I didn’t mean to need you Never meant to care I guess you can say That I never noticed no I never noticed about how often you were there you were there no no no I didn’t mean to loose you I never meant goodbye no I never meant goodbye ❤

Thanks for posting this. This was another 'stiff' during her WB years that shouldn't have been. If only WB had got behind this and really promoted it. It is a Joe Porter production and was released in the US at the end of 1976.

I am a European singer (started live radio singing at age Four, they used to put me atop of a chair to reach the hanging No Touch studio microphones) ... Dionne's Phrasings are Dangerous to vocalize. She have a "pressed" voice in staccato. Only this kind of voice can put Emphasis to a lyric(s) ... Live is tedious and extremely critical without backing(backup singers) to "shade" the "peak"!

I have two single versions of this by Dionne. A long (5:50) version and a shorter (4:05) version, both promos with mono/stereo versions on each side, so it was indeed the A side. I have a 3rd (stock) copy with the long version on the A side and "He's Not For You" (written by Willie Nelson, no less) on the flip. But my copies are U.S. releases, so it may have been a different case in other countries.

First time hearing this song. I was a little suspect of the title. My feelings were confirmed as the sentiment strikes me as a little forced and. artificial. Kind of fair to middling not quite on par to the standards of David and Bacharach. PWG

not to a large degree. it’s emotional enough. she likely doesn’t resonate too much with the meaning of the song. she is still an incredible emotional singer tho. she doesn’t usually come off in that way:)
@roki6467 Жыл бұрын
Helen Reddy’s version is better. There’s something about Dionne’s phrasing that doesn’t quite work at the beginning.
@lamaramy4477 Жыл бұрын
disagree. hers is lackluster to me bc it doesn’t change texture of voice too much and seems to plateau for me emotionally…but i respect u like it better. it does not make it objectively better tho dawg. lmfao. dionne was likely just not feeling this song as much. in the recording her phrasing is smoother tho.
