“Heartbreaker,” was written by The Bee Gees, and released by Dionne Warwick in 1982. 6:09 Barry Gibb and backing vocals on the chorus.

This is indeed a collaboration with Barry Gibb. Dionne Warwick had her first hits in the 60s, some more in the 70s, and then in the 80s she had hits with this song and "That's What Friends Are For."

So beautiful that she and Barry both were Kennedy Center Honorees in December 2023. You are right it is the Bee Gees. She didn’t want to record this song but they kept sending it back to her. Was one of her biggest hits. She is Whitney Houston’s cousin. Beautiful lady with a beautiful voice. Very classy. ❤

She was just nominated for the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame this year it was about time also she is a cousin to Whitney Houston and Whitney Houston’s mother was a back up singer for Elvis Presley!!!😘😘😘👍👍👍

I am so proud of you, young man. You are absolutely right about the twerking and half dressed women who pass for entertainers. Standards have been lowered today.

I heard this song for the first time on the Musak track at a place that I worked in the early 2000s and I loved her voice on this song so much I had to track down who it was. I was absolutely shocked that it was Dionne since I had heard her early songs played by my mom since I was a little kid. I wish she had had the BeeGees writing her songs for her forever. She always had a beautiful voice, but this song uses it *so well.*

Amen! All you said. Also, during this time there was a backlash against “disco” so radio stations stopped playing the Bee Gee’s music. So what did they do? They started writing for and producing other artists. This was one of those collaborations! And guess what…ALL THOSE COLLABORATIONS yielded HITS for these artists!❤ Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers/Dolly Pardons, Diana Ross, etc…. Were all collaborations in the 80’s with the brothers Gibb (especially with Barry on the production and backing vocals)

Another Bee Gees smash hit. Her voice is clearer than a mountain stream, elegant and pristine.

She is always a class act and had some of the most beautiful gowns accenting her gorgeous figure. She's been one of my favorites since I was a young teen. So many great hit songs graced the airwaves from the 60s and beyond. Thanks for the wonderful memories your reactions bring back.

I’ve had great admiration and have enjoyed listening to Dionne since the ‘60s! Beautiful lady with a phenomenal voice! When she (and I) were in our younger days, I always thought she looked like a darker skinned version of Mary Tyler Moore who played Laura Petrie on “The Dick Van Dyke Show”! ❤ This song brings back sweet memories!

79 years old. Do not ask me what I said a minute ago. But these songs I remember word for word. Do not ask me the words to any songs today. Maybe Ed Sheeran. 60 70 80s were worth listening to. or else I would not remember the words. They always meant something. Thank you for this.

I absolutely love this song. And I am happy to see that you do too, Ace. Such a creative melody. I l liked your comment about the dress of your sisters back then. You never talk too much, Ace! Also, great ear catching The Bee Gees singing background. 😊

Great ear! I would highly recommend listening to some earlier Dionne Warwick, like from her Burt Bacherach/Hal David years, "Walk On By," "I Say a Little Prayer for You", and "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?", or "Anyone Who Had a Heart." Nothing wrong with her later hits, but her early (60s) hits were just gems!

Some of The Bee Gees' songs ( one or 2 ) sound so much like the songs that Burt Bacharach and Hal David produced. Geniuses!!! Also...Burt loved to hire her for some of his songs.

Living legend, only Aretha Franklin had more charted hits. Barry Gibb wrote this for her, she didn’t want to sing it but he persisted she record it and was a hit. Think lots of her other songs show off her vocals better but for the era when it was released was total Gibb vibe

She didn’t like it and refused to sing it but eventually was talked into it….. turned out to be her biggest hit ever.

Dionne blazed the path for her younger cousin Whitney Houston. Dionne's mother Lee and Whitney's mother Cissy were sisters. Cissy being the youngest actually came to live with Lee's family including Dionne and her sister Dee Dee when their parents died, Cissy was only 8 years older than Dionne, thus the age differences with Whitney. Lee and Cissy also were cousins to opera legend Leontyne Price.

Barry co-produced & wrote or co-wrote those albums, the twins helped with some writing.

I think you would love Nat King Cole and also Johnny Mathis. Both had/have incredible voices. If you want a little black history music moment then watch "St. Louis Blues" starring Nat as the great W.C. Handy (self described Father of the Blues/Jazz). It's an incredible movie and you can find it on KZbin.

The Bee Gees have a version of this song. To me it doesn't come close to Dionne's version. They sing it in their soft style but it falls flat. I have loved Dionne version since I first heard it. She has true stand out talent.

Thanks a lot for reacting to this huge song written by the Bee Gees and extracted from the LP "Heartbreaker" with 10 others gemsnthey wrote. I really appreciate your heartfelt and interesting analysis. This video comes from a huge live rendition. But here unfortunately, it was ovedubbed with the original studio record, too bad! At 2:01, you’d think she's wrong in lip-synching. But in fact, in live, she's singing " oh oh oh tell me why ..." these lyrics are missing in the original studio recording. Here the link to discover the real live performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5bbh3iEbp6MsNE
