I thought it I was delightful but I’m an Avignon wearer. I’m pleased it’s less generic than a million Ouds or variations on Delina DNA. I thought it’s not brave, very accessible but brave to launch it with the iconic name.

I wore it again all day yesterday and loved it. Quite linear and very clean. I too have gone through several bottles of Avignon. This perfume is not like Avignon to me. It has similarities to Avignon and to Jaisalmer but it still is its own thing in a way even though linear and simple at the end of the day. The aldehydes make this one edgier.

I still think Francis Kurkdjian is one of the noses, if not the one, for masterful compositions that whisper (never obnoxious and always a well developed multi-dimensional character more than meets the eye). I will have to smell the “new” New Look as it sounds like a well blended incense with nuances that are all its own. BR540 suffered the unfortunate fate of people dousing themselves in it when that should have been worn lightly like a cloud or mist, and as in many things, it got the “scarlet letter” sentence when “influencers” over-endorsed it. Dacob, I always appreciate that you take the time in your perfume reviews and thank you for resisting the temptation and saving this to share the first impression with us all.

Thank you Gen_o 🙏🏻🥰 I like Francis’s work too. Not all of it but many cardinal points in his career are marked by perfumes I respect. BR540 is just not it on so many levels. It is quite vulgar even when very lightly sprayed in my opinion. Smells too synthetic in a bad way to me. Unfortunate but alas… it is what it is.

It’s funny with all the hype of BR540? I actually preferred the dupes of it more! I couldn’t get past the medicinal note? My nose didn’t get it 😢 I do ( with embarrassment) admit, I loved cloud more! I’m a spicy gal and now I’m loving coconut and milky scents at bedtime due to this! so at least I can say BR540 lead me on a journey? Somewhere ? Ha 😅

I feel like Francis has been playing it safe with Diorriviera and Miss Dior Parfum, but New Look is such a total and deliberate break with Demachy’s Dior. Feels like a before and after moment. Personally I found it too abrasive but like you say I can absolutely respect its daring and bravery. For a fragrance like this to come out from an LVMH brand in 2024 is incredible.

I have to add a side note that I’m pretty sure Dior acquired Francis Kurkdjian because he knows how to make a fragrance beast mode and that’s what sells these days so hopefully Dior doesn’t water down New Look because they wouldn’t get their moneys worth out of Francis if they did. The way Dior released this makes me think that they want this to be their staple in their privee line so here’s hoping they don’t change this formula.

The major aldehydes give it quite the chanel vibe indeed. Now that Olivier Polge’s contract at Chanel is about to expire, maybe Francis is showing how well he could do a Chanel perfume so that Chanel maybe asks him to replace Olivier? Just a thought and just speculation of course…

No5 L’Eau is more Pure Poison and made by the same person in part ;) Olivier Polge co created Pure Poison with Ropion.No5 L’Eau and Pure Poison are very similar in many ways.

I really don’t like it but my husband loves it because of the frankincense (he loves church incense ) I don’t even like smelling it on him lol it’s crazy how everyone can smell the same perfume and smell something completely different. How it can be so polarizing. I liked the New Look 1947 better personally 😅

In my opinion, the more polarizing a perfume is and the stronger the character it has. The stronger the character and the better the perfume is. To me good and great perfumes are not about if I like how they smell. In fact there are perfumes out there that I loathe smell-wise but I still love them because they have strong characters and they tell me big deep important stories.

A little late to the game here, but I have just tried New Look sample and I'm completely taken aback... I found it quite intriguing and very pleasant but it kept reminding of something... Only a few hours later did it dawn on me, the dry down smells almost identical to my Cire Trudon candle! I don't believe Spiritus Sancti candle is new, I've seen it for a least a couple of years and got it last summer, but once the aldehydes are gone the perfume 100% goes in that direction for my nose. Would love to hear if anyone else had a chance to compare. Am I just imagining it? Ps. Thank you Dacob, for another great video!

If you haven’t already tried, a seldom-mentioned Francis K masterpiece try Tudor Rose (Burberry). It’s truly magnificent. I sampled New Look and it’s a winner in my opinion. On my wish list for 2024.

Bonjour depuis la France, Beaucoup de critiques négatives sur cette nouvelle création olfactive. Personnellement, je l’aime beaucoup comme les autres compositions de Francis Kurkdjian. Eau Noire est mon parfum favori au même niveau que Fève Délicieuse créé par François Demachy. Il y a une simplicité qui me séduit : juste ce qu’il faut d’encens parfaitement contrebalancé par les notes d’aldéhydes qui lui insufflent une certaine fraîcheur. L’encens peut très vite être écœurant s’il est mal maîtrisé (l’encens d’église). Et l’ambre apporte une touche finale très agréable. New Look 2024 c’est l’alliance des contraires, du feu et de la glace. C’est normal que certaines personnes ne l’apprécient pas mais il faut le porter pour se rendre compte de l’effet qu’il produit au contact de la peau. C’est une belle découverte pour moi. Quand je le porte, il m’apporte réconfort avec une action dynamisante pour la journée. Bien à vous

Thank you for your awesome reviews. Loved it. Please correct me Dacob. For me, It's like CHANEL CRISTALLE which I liked it when I first tried it on me at the shop. I bought a full size 100mls bottle. I sprayed on me a few times and I found the smell really made me nausea. This really makes me whether or not I want to buy New Look as it's very expensive in Australia. I tried it on me. I don't like it but I don't hate it.

The aldehydes make it very soapy from start to finish. It is an airy misty scent. If you are not into aldehydes then I do not recommend this one.

It's an insipid perfume, not even an ode to vintage, apart from the C12 MNA but that is probably the most palatable aldehyde for today's consumer. Then the main accord is olibanum and dry ambery notes like amber xtreme. In fact, it seems more like an accord than a fragrance. For a much better and more complex take on incense, one can smell the Comme des Garcons set.

I own the comme des garcons incense series fragrances. I am not looking for a complex take on incense at all. Why does one need to look for a complex take on incense? One could want to but its definitely not a must when it comes to incense. I think you missed the point of this New Look. Demachy did the 1947 New Look… Kurkdjian is doing the New Look of today. Not vintage at all to me. Its a new look not projected towards the past in my opinion.
