Before they go after fragrances they seriously need to go after the food supply. The average American child eats nothing but processed Lunchables and Hotdogs. A child is more likely to consume processed food on a DAILY basis than be exposed to scented products. Especially because so many products for children are typically 'fragrance free'. I agree with you, Dacob, this is just another tactic to ban yet another element in perfumery and make way for a more profitable one.
@minetree01Ай бұрын
I am not sure the average child eats this way, but there is a disproportionate amount of kids living at the poverty line, (single moms, working two jobs, barely making it) living this way. Schools are trying to provide better lunch options, but there's a huge discrepancy in socio-economics. Same with body products. Cheap options have risky ingredients. I really hope we can find ways to better support our low income families. It shouldn't cost more to have a healthy diet/life. Heart-breaking.
@user-bi3wk5rx6wАй бұрын
I'd say the real issue is what is in our food. The amount of GMO ingredients, glyphosate, antibiotics, hormones, dyes, and other stuff allowed in our food(especially in the US). Why aren't they as concerned as to what we consume everyday, and ban or limit those harmful things? Fragrance can certainly contain harmful ingredients, but IFRA seems to have better discretion than the FDA. Another instance to blame anything other than what the FDA allows. I'll wear my fragrances with a clean conscience.

It’s not just that we breathe it in. It’s in our foods. Heating foods in plastic containers, storing acidic or greasy food in plastic leeches plastic chemicals into food. Even if the container says it’s microwave safe.

Musk ambrette has been restricted for a long time now. If anything, they would just ban it outright like they have with other compounds. There are alternative compounds that you can use in place. I don’t think that this would be a reason for it fragrance to be completely banned.

Hello Dacob!I am a new subscriber. I subscribed thanks to Rich Mirch Actually I was watching a video today from a fragrance YTer (or was it something I read) about musk ambrette who was actually saying that musk derived from ambrette was quite pricey to manufacture and that in the fragrance industry manufacturer used it less and less and preferred other synthetic musks. I am a bit skeptical about that study. Phenoxyethanol is also a huge endocrine disruptor and they do not do much about it. I am French, the threshold in the EU for phenoxyethanol is much lower than in the US (1% in the EU). Phenoxyethanol is used as a preservative in cosmetics. I have bought a few time cosmetics from the US and the phenyethanol is much higher in the US (also much higher in the ingredient list than in the EU). Does the FDA do anything about it ? No. Plastics is a huge endocrine disruptor. Plastic micro particules have been found in the placenta and new generations are being exposed to them in the womb. Does the FDA do anything about it ? No. Let us not talk about the food industry the biggest danger to our health. Unfortunately for us the food lobby is much stronger than the perfume/ cosmetic lobby. An anecdote: i went to the doctor one or more than a year ago, my daughter was 6 yo then. The doctor checked her pubis to see if she had any pubic hair. I was surprised an told the GP that it was way to early. She told me no, that it was not and that already seen girls her age with pubic hair and breasts starting to grow.

Children are exposed to toys with pthalates too there are so many products. Also there really a variety of pthalates and it is so diffucult to avoid. Plastic wrap had it, I do see versions saying BPA free. I don’t know what I would do either of I can’t have my perfumes… lately I do notice my skin reacting to certain ones…. But I can’t help it, I will still spray a little but on my clothing instead. My perfumes help me throughout the day, throughout the year! Great video Dacob ❤

The day they ban frags is the day I start learning to make my own. if they ban frags they will have to ban every air freshener, deodorant, detergent , and soaps with fragrances added. it's not going to happen.

It's the detergents and fabric softeners, and the food. I don't know if it's good or bad, but we are living in a time of great change. I'm hopeful we'll come out the other end healthier and happier, but with the way things are going, that's very questionable.

Love your curiosity, Dacob. Thank you for not shying away from complicated topics. (Methinks you'd be a wonderful parent, just sayin') I'm an older mom (50s) to two petite daughters who started puberty after 14yrs old, which is unusual these days. Not sure how that fits into this discussion, but I'd have been more than happy to keep fragrances out of their young lives, if I thought there was a health risk. I didn't drink diet sodas until recently. At my age, I'm feel like, if coffee, perfume, diet soda, cheese, etc shortens my life, so be it. But I do not feel the same way about young adults. You are a good person. xo

Meanwhile, there was a recent study that said majority of humans have microplastics in them and is floating around in every plastic bottle out there. Microplastics according to the study plays a detrimental role in skeletal growth in puberty through accelerating osteoblast senescence. They interfere with normal hormone receptors, altering the hormonal action of the endocrine glands. I wonder how they're going to resolve this study with the musk ambrette one. I tend to err on the side of caution with some of these studies and their motives which I find dubious. There was a recent one that made the news everywhere that skipping breakfast and intermittent fasting is bad for your health. Some industries are losing a lot of money.😂😂

Yes, this is no joke. I’ve always been into health so I was reading about this 20 years ago, but of course back then if you talked about it, people thought you were nuts. There are many hormone disruptors in the chemicals manufactures use - and it is also behind the infertility epidemic. They are called endocrine disruptors and are responsible in large part for the low testosterone levels in men and the fibroid growths in women - - both of which cause infertility. And as far as eating fish? I still think eating fish is healthier than the standard factory farmed animals - - Beef are also given hormones - dairy cows have been given bovine growth hormone for years to increase their milk supply. Beef cattle and chickens are given antibiotics because they are so crammed in pens and so stressed out that they get infections so farmers have to give them antibiotics on top of everything else. It’s really quite awful. so if you do eat meat and dairy, be sure to buy pasture-raised chickens and hormone - free, grass-fed beef. In other words, safe for humans and humane for animals. The one other thing that I want to mention is plastics - the chemicals used in plastics leach out when heated so that’s why certain chemicals are being eliminated from plastic bottles because plastic bottles sit in the heat and then when you drink them, you ingest those chemicals. Also never heat anything plastic in the microwave- Nothing that is touching your food. Take it out of the plastic and put it in a ceramic dish. Well look forward to the perfume manufacturers going natural - it should be a good thing (as long as we don’t lose our favorites:-))

Oh wow Dacob! What a nightmare this could become 😩I loooove perfumes and have at least 350 perfumes for the following 5 years. Or longer. Lol. Do they want us to smell stinky stinky? What is also really nice is to add essentials oils, like orange, in scent-free bodylotion. If even essential oils will be banned, I will live in a nightmare the rest of my life. Interesting subject!

Wow, pretty much I have kindred thoughts with all the comments here. But, fragrance has been around since the most ancient of times before all the yuck was added to it. Can that one chemical be removed from formulations? I'm not a perfumer or chemist, so I don't know. But I do know that I love my fragrances. So I would start with examining what is in our food sources. We consume way too many bioengineered foods. Foods that our bodies don't recognize as 'food', and cannot process correctly. How do we not all have a third eye yet?
@EyeByBrianАй бұрын
You’ve expressed the ‘back to nature’ fallacy: natural=‘good’, manufactured=‘bad’. It’s a false equivalency.

Speaking of perfume allergy, I can share my experience. First of all, I'm a perfume lover for over 10 years, almost use every day and have around 100 bottles. In the past 1-2 years, I started to have skin allergy to some perfume products. The first case happened after I took a shower using the Axe Dark Temptation, it was reeeeally bad, I have red rashes popping up all over my body for almost a month, and itchy as hell. So I'm now only using non-perfume shower gels. The second case happened with a Lush perfume (they claim all natural), the rashes came not immediately after I used the perfume, but 2 days later. And it is only local to my arm and neck, but still quite horrible and I'm scratching all the time and cannot sleep at night. I'm not buying any Lush product anymore. So what I'm really allergic to? I don't know, only way is to do some proper testing I guess.

It’s hard to find a perfume that scares 50 (good) or over they usually score 0-20 fir safe chemicals 😳😳😳 that was mind blowing to me! The chemical patent makes soooooo much sense now 🤯🤯 it’s not just in fragrance products like perfume it’s in hairspray, regular unscented lotions, shampoos, and body washes it’s almost 100% toxic it’s the chemicals and preservatives that are killing us usually frag is low risk. I have checked all this.
