Gothic Funeral Coach Diorama Base
The time has come to begin creating a permanent home for the Victorian Gothic Funeral Project!
Constructing the base is simple - and the materials are pretty basic - many of them can be obtained at The Dollar Tree. I love that.
It was so fun experimenting with UV Resin to create the mud puddles! You've gotta try it.

I just finished a 1/35 scale WW1 Whippet tank and was formulating in my mind the things I would have to purchase to make a diorama for it. Things like spackle, artificial grass, etc. from the hobby shop. Now I will just go to the kitchen and my diorama will not only look good, it will also have a mouth watering aroma!

Fabulous work there, Heather, I'm expecting you to build your own model railway next LOL! The wheel tracks are brilliant, I'm glad your little muddy puddle worked out too, as I did some geek research a while ago & according to science peeps, acrylic paint/ink & polyester resin won't set, they are a match made in hell. Maybe that's why it worked! *insert evil laughter here* ;)
@Thicketworks
@Thicketworks 6 жыл бұрын
😂 If I ever DO venture into model railroading, it'll be Luke Towan's fault, Joanne! Meanwhile, I'll settle for the delicious sense of wonder that emerges as these tiny creations demand to be manifested - I'm in LOVE with the challenges and the delights of the miniature world! About the resin: Evil Laughter! (I love that) I had my doubts that the resin would cure properly with the addition of the acrylic - but being the adventurous (or foolish) soul that I am, I had to give it a try. Absolutely no ill effects on the curing process - yay! I think using truly miniscule amounts helped. xoxo

Heather, you are going to think I am a fanatic fan but this tutorial is amazing. It is filled with so many clever ideas like the spices and mixtures you grind up for the ground litter and using a cheap paint brush's bristles for the grasses. I am once again blown away by the simplicity of the materials, the clear explanations of how to do each step and the stellar professional results. Wow! Now I think a diorama is in my near future. I have a hillside that is near and dear to my heart. My favorite time to just sit and ponder on it is the late fall. Now I know how I can recreate that treasure in miniature. One question-instead of using the resin for puddles would Ranger's Glossy Accents work, too? It's just something I have on hand. Again, I love your style and your passion for sharing and encouraging us to bigger and better things. Thank you for being you.

Dear Sarah - firstly, I'm beyond delighted that you feel the same kind of creative excitement about these things as I do - hearing the enthusiasm in your message makes me grin from ear to EAR! It's this spirit of joyful experimentation that fills ME with endless excitement - and sharing it with YOU makes me happier than I can express. Oh, and absolutely - use your Glossy Accents. Use what you have, raid the pantry, stalk the aisles at Home Depot, let your imagination run wild, girl! Huge hugs! xoxo

hey heather, i am really impressed how good and easy it looks. really creative. i was wondering if the herbes will lose their color due to aging (especially the greener ones like parsley) or if they will stay the same because they are sealed with pva glue. maybe your expertise could help me figuring it out. thanks for the content and the ideas.

Thank you for your kindness, my friend. As you suspected, I learned the hard way that the herbs fade over time. I've since taken to dying the herbs with a bit of diluted acrylic paint or ink...this means that I end up applying them as a kind of paste, rather than as dry sprinkles, but the end result is much more long-lasting. Here's a link to a later video where I demonstrate the 'new and improved' version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX7Wd6B7o7erntUsi=f21mAExys2-VmeI_&t=3115

This is amazing, will need to sneak a peek into the other videos aswell now lol and thank you ! Have a question im horrified of actually to ask- i have harvested lots of cedar flowers- amazing for small scale leaves if painted, and amazing for fine dust details when grounded- but if its biological, doesnt it run the risk of mould ? My room is 60% so im between quartz sand and bio diorama.
@Thicketworks
@Thicketworks 5 жыл бұрын
I'm really glad you like the video, @StalkeraBg - I love the cedar flowers idea - thank you! That's a good question. I guess the shortest answer is "yes"...AND I'm betting on the pva mixture to seal the materials to the point that mold isn't a factor. I've taken to including dried root systems, etc. in my work, and once coated with pva, they seem to be impervious to mold (or Mould, if you prefer😅!). Hope this helps, my friend.
