Diplomat is one of the best brands on the market. They are great pens! Thanks for this review.

Thanks for the analysis. It appears Diplomat's well tuned S/S nibs make these pens top of the class, so unless you want the bounce of a gold nib, or desire an in-between line width, save the money with a S/S nib pen.

Love Diplomat nibs. I will have to get one of their pens with a gold nib in the not too distant future. Thanks for the video evaluations from someone whose opinions I value.

As an Aero owner (steel), I really appreciate this high quality evaluation. Thank You.

I have more than 20 years using FP and I confess that I still have no preference for gold nibs. When I write or draw with my FP´s, to write my favorite is an Opus88 Koloro (F) with steel nib and the ones I use to draw all have steel nib. 🤷♂

Thank you for making this comparison. I have the EF and Broad steel nibs. Thinking to get one of the Elox pens with a gold nib.

I want the green Aero. M or B… gorgeous looking pen, steel nibs rock.

Hot damn, that waves pattern on the Excellence is just delicious. Enjoyed the comparison too, btw.

Personally, I would ALWAYS choose a gold nib over a steel one. The smoothness and buttery-soft feedback provided by gold is simply incomparable. Steel? NO THANKS!

Love your videos. I felt the weight of my diplomat accented the stiff feel of the stock nib. I replaced it with an Omniflex and now it ROCKS!

Thanks, it was really nice to see a comparison between the two nib types! I always wondered how the steel compared to the gold, since most people understandably go for the steel. I have a Diplomat Aero with a steel broad nib and it's a wonderful pen, so smooth and a joy to write with. It's one of my favourite nibs ever, and I have quite a few gold nibs! Diplomat seems to have great quality control.

Did you use the same ink both on steel and gold nibs? That really is a big difference to me. Great to have a comparison like this. Thanks you for that lady Gourmet.

Yes. You can. In the olden days not so. But today yes you can.

what ink did you use for the summary in the broad gold? Looks like Kon-Peki… Is that right? Beautiful handwriting 👍🏻

I have a Diplomat elox with an EF nib. I wondered about the gold nib. Thank you for the comparison. I also clicked the other Diplomat pen. Is it heavy?

I returned my ELOX EF 14ct today. I love my Aero M 14ct though. A huge difference. Could be that I received an ELOX with a flowed EF Gold nib. It wasn’t smooth at all and a tough starter

Japanese pen companies are very consistent and precise with point sizes. If you'll order medium-fine - you'll getting a 0.4 mm point, not a 0.3mm or 0.5mm like with Diplomat. That's one of the reasons why I prefer Japanese pen brands over western one's.

The main reason in the olden days gold was seen as better was because inks were corrosive and gold is less reactive then the spring steels of the time. Nowadays it doesn't matter unless you wanna feel fancy. Cus nowadays we have good quality stainless steel

Beautiful and informative review. If I may allow a very small critic, it may have been good to record the sound of the nibs as the writing was done.

This was wonderfully useful. I’ve always gone for Diplomat’s steel nibs because they’re so dependable and a pleasure to use. But this demonstration has shown me how the gold nibs can show off the ink better given the different range of shading when you apply a little pressure. Thank you so much for doing this.

Thanks so much! I bought the Aero in steel fine and it’s easily my favourite pen. I just ordered the gold fine in the Elox for something different. I was a bit worried when I watched this video that maybe I had wasted my money? But it appears the gold offers something extra? I love Diplomat. The Aero/Elox feels so perfectly weight. They also feel so durable, like they’re going to last years. I know some people love piston/vacuum fillers, but long term a converter, particularly a std intl converter, is going to be much easier to maintain. I also have a clutch of magnums and a traveler. I also think Diplomat inks are really underrated. The colours are so eye-catching and they’re very well saturated. I feel Diplomat deserves more love than it gets.

Looks like the steel nibs are consistently wetter than the gold, which squares with my limited experience with Diplomat
