I have the rollerball version because i am not into the fountain pen madness (cleaning, fixing, dealing with flow issues, prices, etc.) I think the most important thing is the content you write, not the instrument with which you do it; a fountain pen is no better than a ballpoint for this purpose. Aside from that, i paid 140 dollars for my roller version on a street sale, and i am very happy because i know I paid for the design, the way this pen looks. As the days passed, this pen grew on my heart and now is one of my favorites: it is modern, it is not excessive like many italian pens, but it manages to show style, and it feels really good in my hand. What else can i ask for?

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. Most fountain pens will be not nearly as fiddly as you are imagining. I use and review then since decades and have never or rarely experienced any of that (apart from the cleaning, which takes 5mins). Most people that use them simply find it more enjoyable. I guess it is just a matter of perspective. Just as you can say both a Mercedes and a Hyundai will get you from A to B. Just a bit different perhaps. But everyone can of course decide for themselves what they value.

For a metal pen this was one of my most underwhelming pen buys ever in my life. The cap closure click is the best thing about it and I found the nib and pen 'meh' after that, so I returned mine. I am in the UK as well so the cost to me was very high and it just isn't worth it imho. There are better pens for less money and the same steel nibs. Thanks for reviewing this. I didn't notice this range coming out. Yes, it is a Yowo nib, but it seems to be of a much higher spec. For me Diplomat nibs set the standard few others get close to. I make mine write wet. I really like the Aero for it's weight, balance and writing. For me this looks a little over un-serious. I am a little embarrassed getting my Black Aero out in formal settings. This pen would be a step too far for me. The Green or purple versions even more so. Thanks - A great review a always. Cheers.

I agree with you! I often say that the best steel nibs out there come from Diplomat, Pelikan, and Faber-Castell. No, the gold nib (especially from Diplomat) isn’t worth it. Those ones are quite rigid, so don’t add much to an anyways spectacular steel nib - but literally doubles the price.

I like how you mention the Faber Castell pens in your reviews. They really are a good benchmark for steel nibs.

The pen is double anodised, which is a remarkable manufacturing process, but I doubt most customers notice it or think it’s worth the extra cost. I really like it, but unfortunately it’s beyond my current budget. I’m hoping for a new Esteem with a different finish to add to my collection.

I think you are right. Most customers don’t care for - and are not willing to pay - manufacturing stuff that is hard to grasp. One of the few exceptions is hand made/adjusted nibs, or stuff like maki-e paintings.

I think I prefer the Excellence range. That said, the Elox certainly has a striking appearance.
