I've been going to O'Brian creek since the mid 1980s. Limited out dozens of times right there at the o'Brian creek . Used to be able to drive a car to Haley creek. Crazy how much its changed. Caught a king one year, went to clean it and the meat was clear. Like clear jello. Threw it back. In 1991 or 92 someone shot a black bear there at o'Brian. It tried to attack their dogs that were tied up, middle of the afternoon on a sunny day. Thanks for posting.

hmmm...that aluminum trailer. My friend designed and built things just like those way back in the 90's or maybe early 2000's. 4 wheels with an articulating box so it doesn't dump when you go over a rolling trail. ..started in south central, retired and moved down to kodiak but had other properties.
@diyalaskanlifestyle2 жыл бұрын
These trailers are the only way to go I welded up the walking beam myself. It can be mesmerizing watching these trailer traverse rough country. The only prob I’ve had is I don’t have a stop on the beam so sometimes the tire may jamb up against the box and stop the wheeler if loaded down and in nasty country. But this rarely happens especially pulling with the 6x6

Yes we wear harness’s especially on the rock we were fishing the first day. The second day we didn’t have them on it was a way less dangerous spot to fish but we still should of taken the time to put them on

@@diyalaskanlifestyle oh ya they are definitely good hunting dogs!! I had several that won first in some bird competition hunts!! They were ones that I had raised and sold!! I actually have people that baught dogs from me before calling me back wanting another dog that they absolutely loved them and they absolutely had to do less work when going out bird hunting and just couldn’t believe it!! I also tried correcting the long nose on the males to match the females nose length!! I absolutely hated the longer nose length on the males and I definitely had a lot of complaints on that from others!! I sometimes wish I was still raising them kind of dogs but they just got to hipper for me and would definitely end up wearing me out!! Lol!!

@diyalaskanlifestyle Жыл бұрын
Yes it is. Believe it or not I have the perfect boat for chitna it is a 28’ inboard weldcraft. I feel safer tied to a tree then being on that river. I just try and time it when there hopefully won’t be a lot of people there. I’m sure eventually I’ll put the boat on the river.

What's the reason for cutting the tails ?
@kiger3633 жыл бұрын
Alaska DNR requires the tails to be cut when harvesting fish for subsistence use up here.
@northjerseygiants92012 жыл бұрын
Commercial fish don’t have to be clipped only personal caught fish. You can’t sell a fin clipped fish

Зачем они обрезают хвосты у рыбы?
@diyalaskanlifestyle Жыл бұрын
We cut the tails because it is subsistence fishing and not sport fishing. It is a way for fish & game to differentiate. Sport an subsistence have different bag limits

I hate sounding like a snowflake but isn’t there a way to determine the exact place you should be hitting the salmon to finish it in a single blow most of the time instead of 3-4? Hunters try to aim for that perfect kill shot so the animal can be humanely dispatched. It just seems that would be a good goal for fishing. Yeah, snowflake.
@diyalaskanlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
What you don’t see is my kids carefully putting their very sharp knife through the fish’s gilll’s to bleed them out seconds after stunning the fish. I decided to not put this key piece to our harvesting techniques in the video because of the SNOWFLAKES. 🤪 We hit the fish on the back of their head to stun them and then cut gills immediately to bleed fish out, if this isn’t done the meat will have alot of blood in it.
