+David Thomas how many BW dips could you do before you started doing weighted?
@davidthomas81138 жыл бұрын
Frequentgamer: You should start adding weight , when you can complete 6-8 reps. Keep adding weight, keep your rep range between 3-7. Highly suggest pull ups too. If you master these two movements with weights, you will have an impressive upper body and real strength DAVE
@solotaughtme8 жыл бұрын
David Thomas okay cause i've been in the 10-20 rep range (depending on weight ive lifted earlier in the session) and i wasnt sure whether i should start adding weight or not... how can i add a bit of weight without using a belt/vest to start?

You should add weight right away. Try 25 pounds and see how many max reps.

*Never* flare your elbows out guys. There's a reason why people injure their rotator cuff and tear pecs from bench pressing: *Flared Elbows*. Keep your elbows in whether doing push ups, bench pressing, or dips. Good day.

Agree. Just keep your shoulder blades same way as you would during bench press. Shoulder blades back and down

They naturally flare when you do a chest dip, but if you over exaggerate this you can injure yourself. Especially if you are a novice dipper.
@JonathanRamirez-tz4fo6 жыл бұрын
Keeping them tucked in would focus too much on triceps if you’re trying to focus on chest. Elbows shouldn’t be flared either but kept at a comfortable 45* angle

The best video I saw for Dips but I still have one question... Behind the Back Dips• What's the difference?? Elbows are not so much in, they flare a bit. Beside more chest involvement, does this means it "hits" the Lateral Head more, instead of the Long Head??

I'm glad to see this video about dips. I've been doing dips since 1987, back when I was around 16yrs old and it's my oldest workout. The guy in this video is right; from, technique, proper range of motion and even proper breathing technique is very important. Also applying resistance training technique, while doing dips, will not only give a good size triceps but it will increase your strength and power far more effectively. However I have to advise caution when doing any kind of resistance when doing dips. When you do resistance on dips, it's so demanding and you expend so much energy that if your not careful you could hurt yourself. You have to keep in mind that your also inadvertently working out, to a certain extent your shoulders, shoulder blades and even your chest when doing dips. So just try and play it safe, when doing dips.

I have always been good at pull ups/chin ups (in my childhood etc) but I had never performed dips, so when I tried them for the first times I felt very uncomfortable, I couldn't even do one or two... The position was really unfamiliar, balance problems etc... And I was beginning to think my triceps were really weak... :'( But after very few trainings (with no gains of strength) I've become able to comfortably do 10 in a serie. In fact it was not a question of strength, you just have to get used to them, it's only a movement to learn (like muscle up for example)
@comanchedase3 жыл бұрын
About the same for me. But got my dip strength from push ups, after a while its just a matter of time to get used to them or strong enough. I am pulling 25-20-15 dips simultaneously with 20-15-10 curls of 20kg each hand in the interval. Have stopped doing as many chin ups since my elbow grew a bit sore...been doing chins for 20 something years about since I was 4 I guess...

Thats what started to happen to mine before I tore my rotator cuff. I ignored the signs and one day my shoulder just went. It was absolutley agonising and took a very long time to heal. In my opinion rest your shoulder for a while and go ask an expert for some guidance on the exorcise or alternativley do something that is not so much of a strain. My brother tore his rotator cuff too and had to have steroids (administered by doctors).

hey dudes! what are your opinions on Olympic style weightlifting (clean and jerks, snatch, front squats, etc.)?
@dianrobertson218510 жыл бұрын
leaning forward does not target the chest more, in fact it hits it less and has been proven by some studies. think about it, you are giving yourself less range of motion in regards to your humerus and torso. if taken to the extreme (chest parallel to the ground) and do the dips, it is the equivalent to a dumbell front raise. all it does is emphasize your front delts, not pecs.
