Important Update: This channel will no longer be posting reaction videos. Stay tuned for exciting new content! Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms - Reaction. Like I stated, it's a beautiful song, but the reason for the song is so sad. In my opinion, there is no way that you can listen to this song and it not pull at your heartstrings. It gives you a glimpse into the life of our Troops before something tragic happens and it just breaks my heart.
THANK YOU to ALL the Troops that we've lost, THANK YOU to the Troops who continue to risk their lives for our safety and last but certainly not least, THANK YOU to the Troops who by the Grace of God made it home... WE SALUTE YOU. Until Next Time... Y'all Take It Easy, PEACE PEACE!!

Inspired by the Falklands war, 2nd April to 14th June 1982, in which many brave, highly skilled British soldiers lost their lives, buried there to this day, in frozen earth, thousands of miles from home. I should also mention that Argentinians also lost plenty of brave men, but the heartbreaking aspect of the war for me was hearing the dying screams of young Argentian boys, 18 years old, calling for their mother as their life slipped away, with nothing for comfort except the cold hard hands of their comrades, or, in some cases, the British soldiers. We held their hands as they lay dying and we cried for their mothers. It was a senseless, ultimately pointless war. Enough. War is not romantic.

It certainly wasn't pointless on ours or the Falkland Islanders parts , but for the war they would now be under Argentine RULE . Its a sad fact that sometimes we have to fight for our freedoms .

There's many sides to the song. It also raises how they can be at war so long it's almost their new home, that their old lives become the dream. And also how we should all be brothers in arms and stop killing each other. The world is hard enough without us fighting each other.

Such a beautiful song, so beautifully written and performed by Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler) and the subject matter is so horrible. I don't know how many times I've listened to this amazing track and every time it gets me so emotional when I think of all those millions of people who sacrificed their lives for their countries, just so the rest of us can be safe and live in peace. All those amazing young men and women and their families...I'm even tearing up as I write this...May God bless them all.

Your raw response, unscripted was perfect. The song touches me deeply and to think there could be a nice simple eloquent 'expression' of all it brings up would be to sanitise it and not acknowledge how deeply music and songs can express things in ways that words can't.

There is no apology necessary for failing to find the words to explain your response to this song. It is one of the most deeply moving songs of the modern musical era, with lyrics that are unarguable in their truth, haunting music, and a brilliant video that suggests and implies, but does not confront, and is all the more powerful for that.

This is exactly how this song can effect some people so deeply. If you just take this tune as musical peice it is utterly remarkable. It has everything. Once you bring the lyrics into the fold, it can really drive it home how futile most wars are. We are all brothers and sisters. It's another knopfler masterpiece and I can see why it hits home hard for so many, particularly people linked to the military. It's one of those one in a million songs that just rarely gets matched.

The juxtaposition of the tragic cost of war and the beauty, strength, and brotherhood that war brings out, is profound. Knopfler shows his artistry by navigating those themes with reverence and underlying them with music.

"We are fools to make war on our brothers in arms" that line in the song means everything to me. We all live in one world and whilst war is sadly necessary sometimes we are fools to go to war. All people if only we could work together except we are divided by our leaders and the press. This song for me is a song for peace whilst showing respect to the people who fight for peace and put their lives on the line to protect us. It is a beautiful song Mark Knopfler guitar genius and he has become an amazing songwriter/storyteller.

To American listeners they need to be aware that WW1 arguably had a far more devastating effect on the British people than WW2 whilst Britain lost around the same number of casualties in WW2 as the US and its cities were bombed the casualties in WW1 were far worse 3 to 4 times worse with those who were physically and mentally damaged by the war far worse as well with the chemical and biological warfare used for the first time as well what we know now as PTSD was then known as shell shock and was barely understood. Often those suffering from it were accused of cowardice, it wasn't until decorated heroes started becoming afflicted that doctors understood that members of the military when exposed to much death, destruction and fear could lose their minds. WW1 was just a horrible war for those who fought it.

The most heartrending example of your point is the modest memorials, in every city, town & village. The names (carved in stone), especially in small communities, where you read the same surname, over and over again; what tragedy, what grief to families. We've done our bit for the dignity of the human spirit, but I suspect there's more to come - long live the spirited people of Hong Kong!

Thanks for the raw and honest reaction. It’s hard not to cry when listening to it and watching the video. It speaks to us on so many levels. The lines ”There’s so many different worlds / So many different suns / and we have just one world / But we live in different ones” make me think of all of us living on the same planet, breathing the same air, eating, drinking, sleeping, loving and so on regardless of colour, creed and beliefs. We’re all humans and still we are led to believe that have to fight each for survival instead of working together to make the world a better place for all of us, and those coming after us, to live in before it’s too late. I feel those words are even more relevant today than when they were written in the 1980s. But I think there is hope in the last lines of the song: ”But it’s written in the starlight / and every line on your palm / We’re fools to make war on our brothers in arms”. If we look beyond what’s skin deep we will realize that we are the same and we need each other to survive. Off topic, but I’m very impressed with your beautiful hair. How do you do it? (Sorry, if that’s too personal and irrelevant, but I really like it).

We all come from one human anyway. I had hoped that this song would help humanity to see and learn to never do war again. It is the most beautiful peace song ever written, disguised as a war song. Because we are brothers, war is to be killing your brothers. And that is the depth of the song: it is the understatement of the last sentence: "We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms." Aren´t we fools to wage war against not only our brothers, but brothers which should be so close that we should call them "brothers in arms".

Youth, innocence, magical thinking, wonder, moral compass. All disappear to be replaced by cynicism and sarcasm. Death is far from the worst that war brings to the table. the song is about those who go off to war. when you come back you just want to be left alone. Very often that desire persists throughout life. At some point, however, you want to see those who you laughed and fought hardest besides. Dire Straits did a companion song to this called "Ride Across The River" which is about going into a war. This is more the aftermath of a veterans life after he has left the military. The thoughts he has, the memories hes recalling.

I love how you react to songs...no apology necessary. This song topic is difficult for anyone to convey without personal feelings and emotions becoming a part of it. I think you did a very commendable job relaying your thoughts for your audience. You were totally sincere as you are in all your video reactions and imo that is all we as an audience can ask for. Keep up the great work and remember we can't all love the same songs. If that was the case then why have video or music reactions. You say how you feel about a certain song and good or bad I have more respect for someone who conveys their true feelings opposed to a reactor who just tells his or her audience what they want to hear.

The amount of love that's been lost for another's greed, if the politicians had to go out there and fight to the death wars would be a thing of the past. Its been nice seeing your reaction to such a poignant song

I had a neighbor who was in Vietnam and suffered from PTSD. He drank all the time, never married and never had kids. We would always help him where we could and feed him. So I understand.

Wars serve as a grand ritual of American civil religion in which sacrifice and martyrdom are props for a vision of the imperium, even at the cost of the "empire’s" actual strategic objectives. The troops are symbolic avatars for American values, but as actual human beings, they are expendable. Not only does conflict provide an enemy to define America against, but warfare itself is seen as a crucible in which the national character is defined and the soldier placed in the role of Christ, expected to redeem America through his (and in the popular imagination, it is always his, not her) suffering. America sacrifices soldiers on the altar of "freedom" just as the Aztecs sacrificed people to the gods to ensure the sun would rise. Both throwing away lives for reasons that make no sense to a thinking man.

You sure took a lot of words to convince me. All you really had to say was this is my opinion and I know because I never had an original thought in my life and someone really, really smart, it may have my mommy, told me. I know stuff. I’ve never taken a stand, never hung it out in the open. Never placed myself in harms way and never will.

As you said, countless lives have been lost and yet, the leaders who initiate war are insulated. Doesn't it seem that we should have evolved beyond this? We went into Kuwait, where human life wasn't in jeopardy, just oil. Meanwhile, in Rwanda half a million innocents, women and children, were slaughtered and we didn't feel the need to intervene. Who or what are we fighting for? We come out of these conflicts with nothing resolved, only layers heaped upon layers of suffering. Yet that suffering is not visited on those who initiate the violence. One day we, those who pay the price, need to put an end to this. No matter what can be gained, the price is too high.

the interesting thing is you shun the fact it is about you, it's admirable you thought of the soldiers and the formalities... of war in the big picture... but what of your wars? really... thas who mark is singing to, i think... it's you sitting there in them misty mountains :) thas the beauty, m'Lady... it is you looking back on your wars, and knowing there's still love...

One of the greatest anti-war songs ever written. It seems to me war never benefits those who fight it. They return with scars, physical and emotional that are almost impossible to get past. There's no right way to react to this song. It's grieving in musical form. No one should tell you how you should react to it.
